it's not that BJCORP isn't getting the license, they called off, that is, cancelled the proposed JV with CW Retail Asia. these are 2 different things.

This is truly a disappointment to call off the JV. Chemist warehouse dominates Australia market by offering greatly discounted pharmacy products, a niche that yet to be explored in Malaysia and sure-win against other players, e.g. Guardian, Watson etc. Robin Tan should provide a good reason - another failure projects added to his belt.

unfortunately, things like this do happen in the business world, due to certain unfavorable things/market conditions or T&C in the JV contract that led to the cancellation of the deal, or just any thing that triggered it. according to the press, no reason(s) were given.. i personally believe pharmacy business is reaching saturating point with too many players in the industry, big and small..

My take to this is Chemist warehouse business model is based on bulk buying (a review has been done which can be found on the internet), hence advantageous against peers. Second, even if the current market condition is not suitable, Bjcorp should do proper study beforehand (the JV was signed in March). A company Morning Charm has been bought for this purpose, albeit at a relatively small sum of RM80 K according to the news. I smell misstep.

Maybe Bj Corp will come out with better dividends. Sure will boost morale.

Btw, I used to buy lots of multivites and other health products whenever i visit Australia.

If discount drug stores finally come to Malaysia. Guardian, Watson, Hovid and Caring Pharmacy and all will kena hantam kuat kuat.

So better stick to stocks with moat or margin of safety. At least Bj Corp got Starbucks coffee
