Malaysia May exports jump 16.3% year over year By Jason Ng KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--Exports from Malaysia expanded 16.3% year over year in May, official data showed Friday.
This was thanks to an increase in shipments of electronics, crude oil and palm oil to Southeast Asia, Japan, E.U. countries and the U.S.
A median forecast of a poll of 11 economists by The Wall Street Journal saw a 13.0% rise. Exports grew 18.9% in April.
Exports totaled 64.91 billion ringgit ($20.35 billion) in May compared with 65.79 billion ringgit, the Ministry of International Trade and Industries said in a statement.
Shipments to Southeast Asia, Japan and the E.U. rose 14.7%, 11.4% and 23.4%, respectively. Exports to the U.S. increased 13.8%.
Electrical and electronic products, which make up about one-third of total exports, rose 12.4% to 21.21 billion ringgit while exports of crude petroleum rose 74% to 2.92 billion ringgit. Palm-oil exports increased 20% to 4.05 billion ringgit in May.
The trade surplus narrowed to 5.72 billion ringgit from 8.74 billion ringgit in April, the ministry added.
nothing about Nylex, BUT, the tone for the export sector is positive, meaning, it is also positive for Nylex. Not to mention the chart looks ripe for a breakout. will be confirmed once it closes above 75 sen.
In agreement with calvintaneng's view. Dividend 3sen, buy at 55sen gives DY 5.5%. If buy at 50 sen, DY is 6%. Never fail to pay dividend for past few years. Value buy and it is a defensive stock.
Oil slump to benefit plastics, petrochemical firms
The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) says industries which use crude oil as main components in their products will benefit from the lower global crude oil prices. Its Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Wong Lai Sum said as an oil producing country, Malaysia will not be affected by the current scenario although certain industries like plastics and petrochemicals which use oil as feedstock would be more competitive.
"It is a double-edged sword, cheaper feedstock will drive the industry to grow further," she said. Wong said Matrade will organise 116 trade promotions to 46 countries this year, up from 108 missions last year. "Last year we performed well and generated RM27.7 billion in sales from trade promotion activities. "As for 2015, we should go forward, embark on new markets and go deeper into the markets," she said at a question and answer session after a briefing on Matrade's trade promotion activities for 2015 in Kuala Lumpur today.
She stressed the importance for Malaysian companies to collaborate with international players and sustain their presence in the international supply chain. "We also must be aware of global economic trends over the next six months," she said, adding Matrade is placing greater emphasis on more focused programmes in the Asean region. – Bernama, January 15, 2015.]]>
