As per my earlier predict, china start to reflect the impact of US tariff rate,

Rebar price has been dropped from Feb 18 CNY 4120 to now 3612 only.

Already dropped more than CNY500++

US tariff start to implement should start on tomorrow.......

Trump have signed on tariff policy, not so easy to U-turn....

The whole world supply need to absorb the surplus from US stop import....

Will hit china steel price as Japan, Korea, Turkey, Euro and more countries supply will look for other market end up steel price will drop in short term...

This highly depend how many china capacity going to cut this year? another 50 mil tonnes? CHina government target to cut 30 to 40 mil tonnes this year, only china raise their target 30-40 to 80-100 then steel price will only maintain current level...

Plus M'sia Tariff 13% RM290 & transport estimate RM200

Total cost from China still ard RM2730

As local steel price have big gap compare china price, however this gap have narrow
down. China price further drop definitely will affect local steel price.

STC1136, I agreed with your calculation, but disagreed with your reason.

For me, the major reason that cause China Steel Price drop is not because of US Tariff (I think this only cause 30% of the dropping), but is the Inventory that those Steel Traders built up during the winter season.

Traditionally, China Steel Trader will always built up their inventory level during winter season, as they expect after Chinese New Year, all construction work will begin, and demand will come in in huge wave, and they can make a lot money of money when demand > supply.

However, something change this year, the demand after CNY didn't come in very slow, slower than anyone expectation. So some trader that cannot stand the financial stress start to selling their stock at below market price.. then this has impact the entire industry, and more n more trader start throwing their stock at below cost price (i.e. their cost price around RMB4000-4100).

This situation will be end sooner or later, once those traders reduce their stock pile to a comfort level, once more n more construction start work (coz their weather is cold, certain contruction side still havent resume work), the demand will surge above the supply, and price will be back to a comfortable level (RMB4000).

This market is now very scary many wanting to escape and issue buy call for others to absorb their selling. So bad hearted those people. Local negative sentiment probably due to uncertainties for the general election.

Other stimuli might be fear of trade war, US imposed tariff on steel & alu and US Fed rate.

It's kind of painful to hold through. Those investors who bought early have almost all profits wiped out and those who bought late is suffering major paper loss or need to cut loss.

If majority is selling so much, which party is absorbing the price fall? It seems like every bid also got buyers but it just keep on dropping slowly.
