still many months from now KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): The government has received a proposal for the implementation of 'travel bubble' with neighbouring countries but has not finalised its decision on the matter.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said this is because there are many things that need to be considered before a decision can be made.

“This proposal has been brought to the Economic Action Council. However, the government has yet to make a decision on the matter, as it involves certain countries and there are things we need to do in a bilateral way before we can make an announcement.

“Of course we need to be prepared. So, we're pretty positive when we look into this. Yes, it is definitely time for the travel bubble to happen,” he said during a television programme at Astro Awani last night.

The term “travel bubble” or “travel corridor” refers to an agreement in which countries that have successfully contained the Covid-19 pandemic can open their borders to each other to allow free movement within the “bubble”.

Mustapa was asked whether the government would follow New Zealand and Australia as well as several European countries in implementing the “travel bubble” in their bid to revitalise the tourism sector.

However, plans by Australia and New Zealand to implement the travel bubble faced hurdles due to reports of new Covid-19 infections.

Canberra also reportedly will not open its border to foreign tourist until next year.

Within the ASEAN region, Indonesia and Thailand are said to be interested in resuming cross-border travel.

At least 3.5 million direct and indirect tourism workers in Malaysia were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Mustapa, the government's decision in allowing interstate travel reflected the country's recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

quite similar to airasia. waiting for a vaccine :). KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): Trading interest in shares in Genting Malaysia Bhd (GenM) spiked after it announced that its Resorts World Genting (RWG) will resume operations tomorrow, and analysts are positive on this.

However, PublicInvest Research said it does not expect the crowd size or business volume to return to normalcy in the near future, and anticipates earnings to only go back to pre-Covid-19 levels in the financial year ending Dec 31, 2022 (FY22).

On the other hand, the research firm projects a strong recovery to happen in FY21 from a net loss in FY20.

GenM shares traded one sen or 0.73% lower at RM2.72 at 10.48am, valuing it at RM16.15 billion. Some 29.53 million shares were done, surpassing its 200-day average volume of 14.45 million.

Genting Bhd, on the other hand, was up 30 sen or 0.67% at RM4.53, giving it a market capitalisation of RM17.34 billion. Some 14.6 million shares were traded.

“Given these restrictions and possibly the change in consumer behaviour due to fear of contracting the virus, we believe RWG is unlikely to operate at its optimal level until a vaccine is found, which could be at least a year away, according to scientists,” said PublicInvest in a note today.

In view of the anticipated drop in business volume, the group is reported to be cutting 3,000 jobs, representing about 15% of its total workforce, it added.

Similar to its peers in the region, stringent social distancing guidelines will be put in place for all casino and theme park operations at RWG, said PublicInvest.

“Crowd control is necessary in order to avoid the risk of contraction and transmission, which means operations will not be running at the optimal level until a vaccine against Covid-19 is available,” PublicInvest added.

Some of the key restrictions include entry to SkyCasino and Genting Club being limited to Genting Rewards members only, while public entry is not allowed at this juncture.

High-tech systems will be used to monitor the number of guests in the casino and ensure it is not overcrowded, with only a limited number of players expected in each table game. For slot and electronic table games (ETG), only alternate machines will be operating, said PublicInvest.

Meanwhile, following rounds of hiccups, the date of completion and operations of its outdoor theme park remains unclear, although management had guided it will open by end-2021, said PublicInvest Research.

“We believe GenM will continue to incur costs in maintaining the theme park, although it is not in operations yet,” said the research house, noting that it reiterated a "trading sell" call on GenM with a target price of RM2. This implies a discount of 26.47% from its current share price.

Elsewhere, retail shopping outlets at Resorts World Birmingham (RWB) in the UK reopened on Monday, though all other offerings at RWB, UK land-based casinos, Resorts World Casino New York City (RWNYC) and Resorts World Catskills (RWC) remain temporarily closed.

There's a reason the richest investor warren buffet got out of airlines stock and admitted his mistake. Airasia is flying with only 20 planes now instead of 200+ , the expense and debt are pilling up.

Government and private institution would be lining up to fund airasia if they really have a good recovery road ahead. But this is not the case, if you invest now, its a big gamble. Fundamentally, its a no-go.

You wanna profit, Invest in statistic, balance sheet, more fact numbers and not gut feeling.

As much as I wanna buy this stock, I don't find any price above 0.50 as attractive, and definitely not worth the risk.

fighting for the limited number of passengers. KUALA LUMPUR (June 19): Malaysia Airlines is introducing enhanced economy class flexible fare options across its entire network for all passengers to enjoy, offering unparalleled safety, security, flexibility and a complete hassle-free, premium experience based on the needs of each customer.

In a statement today, Malaysia Airlines said the options, which were previously limited to domestic, Asean and South Asian destinations, will now see passengers have access to three unique fare options (Lite, Basic and Flex) for all destinations except Malaysia to Japan to Malaysia, Jeddah and Madinah, beginning June 22, 2020.

Malaysia Airlines group chief executive officer (CEO) Captain Izham Ismail said: "As the first airline in the Asia-Pacific region to fully introduce flexible fare options across our network, these fares will allow greater personalisation for our passengers, balancing a simple and intuitive booking experience, alongside unforgettable Malaysian hospitality on board [and] on the ground, creating a stress-free and seamless travel experience.

"This reaffirms our commitment to putting our passengers first, especially in these uncertain times where passengers may be apprehensive about travel.

The airline said regardless of travel needs, all passengers get to enjoy the privileges and services of its premier full-service carrier across all fares, with cabin baggage up to 7kg, complimentary snacks/meals and beverages as well as access to the specially curated Malaysia Airlines in-flight entertainment system.

Malaysia Airlines said the Flex Fare lays the opportunity of unmatched flexibility and simplicity at fingertips, leaving the little annoyance of travelling behind in favour of absolute convenience.

"Passengers who arrive early at the airport will also enjoy the flexibility of travelling earlier on the day of travel should the opportunity be available, allowing passengers to have fluid travel plans and not worry about fixed travel times.

"Most importantly, Flex Fare passengers enjoy the opportunity to skip the line, with priority check-in, boarding and baggage privileges as an added bonus, allowing them to skip the waiting line and the hustle and bustle of the crowd," it said.

Meanwhile, the Neighbour Free Seat (NFS) product is now available exclusively for Flex Fare passengers on all flights at 50% off, allowing for extra room to travel in comfort, with physical distance on board in mind.

It said even after their travel, passengers enjoy the value of booking on the Flex Fare, with a 10% discount on their next Economy Flex purchase.

In addition, the Basic Fare provides the everyday traveller a chance to enjoy the classic full-service carrier experience, with all the hallmarks and benefits that befit a premium travel service, with 20kg of free check-in baggage to provide passengers ample space to pack for their travel adventures.

"The Basic Fare also acts as a gateway to high life in the sky, with passengers having the chance to enjoy Enrich benefits such as Enrich Miles upgrades, giving them the opportunity to try our business class experience to travel," it said.

According to Malaysia Airlines, the Lite Fare provides passengers with the most utilitarian option for their needs, perfect for day trippers, commuters and business travellers.

"With time of the essence and check-in baggage more of a hindrance than a benefit, the Lite Fare comes with the essentials for their travel and provides them with the fastest and most convenient way for these travellers to get to their destinations seamlessly, using their time on board as an opportunity to relax and recharge before the experiences that lay ahead of them," it added.

It said passengers travelling on the shuttle-eligible routes, namely the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore-Kuala Lumpur route, will alternatively have three fare brands, namely the Lite and Basic fares, in addition to the Shuttle Fare.

"The Shuttle Fare is specially catered to seasoned and regular passengers who make multiple trips on the route and desire more flexibility in their travel plans.

"Passengers booked on this fare brand will receive all benefits of the Flex brand fare and more, with check-in baggage of up to 35kg as well as priority check-ins at dedicated counters," it said.

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, one of the world's biggest freight carriers, said last week that demand for medical supplies had softened in the latter half of May. It flew nearly 900 cargo flights with passenger planes in May but that could be reduced as demand falls.

SYDNEY/LOS ANGELES: An air cargo boom driven by demand for protective gear against the Covid-19 coronavirus has peaked and rates, while still 50% above normal levels, are falling in a worrying trend for airlines relying on freight revenue in the absence of passengers.

Declining prices may deal a blow to carriers that are scrambling to move cargo to offset weak passenger revenues as they rebuild networks by flying reopened routes with half-empty cabins.

"The early-mover advantage has disappeared and I can see why some of the rates are coming down," said Phil Seymour, president of aviation consulting firm IBA. "The market is becoming flooded with belly freight capacity."

About half of the air cargo carried worldwide normally flies in the belly of passenger jets rather than in dedicated freighters.

But flight cuts due to weak travel demand squeezed freight capacity at a time when demand for masks, gloves and other protective gear was surging, leading many airlines to fly empty passenger jets as freighters.

Global air cargo capacity was down 27% in the week starting May 31 compared with a year ago, according to Accenture data, but capacity is rising as passenger flights return.

Air freight rates from China to the United States surged to more than $7 a kilogram in April and May and China-Europe rates were at more than $6 a kilo, Frederic Horst of Cargo Facts Consulting said. Rates have since softened, although they remain 40%-50% above normal levels closer to $3 a kilo, he added.

"I wouldn't say they have come back to earth, but they are heading toward it," Brian Bourke, chief growth officer of U.S.-based SEKO Logistics said of rates.

The International Air Transport Association estimates cargo will contribute 26% of airline industry revenue in 2020, up from 12% in 2019, due mostly to a sharp fall in passenger revenue that will lead to forecast losses of more than $84 billion.

Air freight demand had been depressed before the pandemic due to subdued global economic growth and a U.S.-China trade war and recessionary conditions will make for a slow recovery, said Oliver Plogmann, Singapore-based aviation lead at Accenture.

"We estimate around 100 passenger freighters are flying globally and we think the number is going to reduce over the next weeks and months when more capacity comes back into the market because it is simply not viable," he said.

Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, one of the world's biggest freight carriers, said last week that demand for medical supplies had softened in the latter half of May. It flew nearly 900 cargo flights with passenger planes in May but that could be reduced as demand falls.

Taiwan's China Airlines Ltd said it was concerned about the outlook for cargo given there was no obvious global economic recovery trend.

"PPE (personal protective equipment) via air freight has drastically slowed down in the last couple of couple weeks, and it's probably because the second round can afford to go ocean freight," said David Goldberg, chief executive of DHL Global Forwarding USA.

"We've seen more rationalisation of the air freight rates. They're still at high levels."

Logistics group C.H. Robinson said it helped the state of Minnesota save $500,000 in shipping costs for surgical gowns by selecting fast boat services over air freight. - Reuters

Don't rely on others just like giinyang520 said.

Be v v hardworking and stock market direction will be with you.

Airasia closing today is at 88 c (nice number) with upside potential is there.

Road block at 91.5c is 15,198 and expecting the road block to CLEAR once te AA operation start to fly.

I believe AA is opening up step-by-step to prevent further triggering unwanted cost and in order to do so, once the retrenchment of under performed Staffs, cost leveraging will help to soften the debts and cost operation in longer run.

I have potential clients who wanted to fly soon as they want to do hands-on jobs as their main living. With the C-19 infected getting 2 digits to 1 digits, I see greater chance for Airasia to get back to 1.30 at least.
