Proposed RM18 Bln Investment For Rapid Proves Petronas, Govt's Commitment - JPDC JOHOR BAHARU, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- An investment of RM18 billion proposed in the Budget 2016 for the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) Complex is a clear testimony of Petronas and the government's commitment in the development of the project.
Johor Petroleum Development Corp Bhd (JPDC), in a statement, said the allocation would help spur the development of the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) and provide great benefit to the people, especially those in Johor.
"In order to further strengthen the trust placed in the federal government, JPDC will continue to work closely with the implementing agencies to facilitate the development of infra projects to ensure that the RAPID and PIPC projects are running as planned," JPDC said.
In addition, an allocation of RM4.8 billion proposed for 545 technical and vocational education and training (TVET) will address the shortage of local highly skilled workforce to cater to the oil and gas downstream sector development in Pengerang, the agency said.
According to JPDC, previously, public TVET centres had to use old equipment to train their students, especially in modules related to oil and gas.
"The proposed RM585 million allocation for the year 2016 is timely for public TVET training centres as it would to enable them to get new training equipment to keep pace with the latest technological improvements in the oil and gas field," JPDC said.
Furthermore, the proposed RM350 million allocation for the Skills Development Fund Corporation will enable more students from low-income families to acquire the skills as the cost of obtaining internationally recognised competency certificates in the field is expensive.
"The help will be meaningful for them," JPDC said.
