An article showing Malaysian government has been supporting our rubber glove industries all this while. Our competitive advantage is not by chance but active government supports.
Can someone show me how the China government support their glove industry to the extent of selling gloves below cost ?

Bang_misk.
Semiconductor supply chain is much more complex and very difficult to develop by its own and the industry depends on suppliers from few developed countries. Both hardware and software & raw materials are being controlled by US (EDA & ECAD software & photoresist.. ) , Holland (ASML) , UK (Arm software) & Japan (substrate).

The testing of chips by OSAT & EMS (assembly) will be moving out of China as US doesn't want to depend heavily on their highly competitive big country.

china to conquer all industry no.1 not a new news, you can expected now, soon or future. China is huge market, if China explore and enter the certain market/industry, doesn't mean other country same industry/market will die. Anyhow, no.2 no.3 no.4 still can competitive at global market.

Last year glove millionaire, this year bankrupt because of glove. Director and some inexperienced investors watch glove rocket to the sky before falling back on earth in pieces. It will take another 20years to witness such spectacular rocket launching from its platform.

Hard to say. Possible of trend reversal when US imposes import tariff 20% on gloves origin from China.

Agree with treasurehunt. Personally I am confident with our glove industry and believe Harta is undervalued at current price. But given current price trend and sentiment, price will continue to fall for quite some time. The extend of China's presence is still a big question mark in the medium term. Hoping to keep 60-70% of them in the freezer for the next 2-3 years or so. Plan to sell the rest when market rebound.

If China insist staying opposite to US, imposing 20% import tariff is the matter of time. Good to Malaysia glove producers.

US has lifted import ban to Topglov's gloves few days ago. Is it a prelude to impose import tariff by US?...errr..another guessing game again.

When we talk about semicon industry, we need to seperate IC.Design and chip manufacturing with Assembly and Test. The real techonolgy and know how is from IC and Packaging Design and Chip manufacturing which requires state of the art software and hardware. Malaysia semicon is mainly in Assembly and Test plus test equipment manufacturers which are not as high tech. MPI , Unisem , Globetronics , Inari and JHM are mainly subcon houses for test and assembly. There are hundreds or may be thousand of such test and assembly in China Pearl River Delta alone.

Let say, US delay imposing tariff on gloves for another year. Intco and Blue speed up its aggressive expansion plans. All glove companies is fighting for prices reduction to gain their market share. By the time all China manufacturing facilities is ready next year, US impose 20% import tariff...

If look from this angle, Intco and Blue may dare not speeding up their expansion plans at one go to minimise risks exposure. Prices competition may not be so intense next year as perceived by the market.

I find it amusing that we are so afraid of China in gloves mfg when we are at dominant position with 65 % market share but completely ignore the Assembly and Test competitions from both.China.and Taiwan which they are leading compared with Malaysia. Taiwan has 300 plus IC design houses and hundreds of Assembly and Test houses. China has equal numbers and may be more . Malaysia is just a tiny players in semicon Assembly and Tests industry . Why are we not afraid of both Taiwan and China which are big taikors in semicon industry. China has.announced multi billions of funds helping the semi con industry but I have not heard of any such funding from Chinese government to help the glove industry. I think investors should worry more on semicon than gloves in terms if china competition.
China is venturing into graphene replacing silicon when Moore Law reach its limit with 2 to 3 nm . The test and assembly will be a conpletely different ball game then. Is Malaysia semicon industry prepared for that ?

Gloves are cheap items but very lucrative margin now. Glove companies have reported net margin more than 40% in second quarter. With seuch quantum of margin, it is only available to the high technology companies.

The Chinese government is STRATEGIC in thwir long term planning not short term type. The.super.duper ASP foe gkoves will.last for 2 to 3 years only. Then it will goes down to more reasonable numbers like US 30 to 35 . I do not think China government will come up with funds to subsidise their glove industry which is too small and does not have long term impact on their economy and technological advancements. Semicon has long term implications for automobile, telecommunications, military , AI and space explorations.

There are many levels of Chinese governments. Glove companies like Intco receive support from local governments which are only too eager to bring in investment and employment.

The implicit subsidy comes in several forms. Take the example of investment agreement signed between Intco and Pengze county government. The county government offers 800 acres of industrial land at the price of CNY 40,000 (RM26,000) per acre. In comparison, Harta pays MoF RM228.7 million for 250 acres at Bukit Kayu Hitam, or about RM0.91 million per acre.

https://vip.stock.finance.sina.com.cn/corp/view/vCB_AllBulletinDetail.php?stockid=300677&id=5938481

Like Malaysian glove fans, Chinese glove fans believe their side have the cost advantage and can remain profitable at sub-USD20 nitrile ASP. They claim advantage in NBR supply (new supplies have come online), tax incentive, secured freight arrangement among others. As a proxy to the cost structure I look up the quarterly reports. In the latest quarter Intco has 64% operating margin versus Harta at 73% and Top Glove 63%. So they are in the same league. A more accurate comparison can be made after ASP normalized.

Nonetheless like many I have confidence in Harta's long term prospect considering its efficiency, innovation, culture and management. However I'm also prepared for a rough ride in the next few years. Even if the Chinese fails to further expand market share, at minimum they can sell aggressively and suppress everyone's margin.

Treasurehunt has rightly pointed out the wildcard is the expiry of Section 301 exemption. But also need to consider while technology blockade receives bipartisan support, many within Biden's circle view the tariff war as a mistake as the bulk of the tariff have actually been passed on to the American consumers. Lets wait and see.

Observatory. Nice info about the subsidies from the local government.

Glove supply is expected to grow between 100b to 120b in 2021 or 30% of the output in 2020. Malaysia gloves manufacturers share about 50% and the remaining goes to Intco & BlueSail. New expansion capacity is carried out at warp speed in China since last year. They could slow down the expanding progress after experiencing ASP plunging in the next 6 months.
