Equating the circumstances that the Rohingyas are in today to the Indian and Chinese labourers pre-independence is not only off-tangent but exposes Rais of his extreme racism and xenophobia.

Rais clearly needs to be educated on current events and history - the Rohingyas are refugees who have fled their homeland for fear of persecution and hostility.

The Indians and Chinese of pre-independence, on the other hand, were not refugees but were brought into Malaya by the British colonisers in the 18th century as labourers, just like how Malaysia is bringing in migrant workers today by the millions to work here.

Also, why are the minority citizens of this country being accused of mauling the majority? When did this ever happen?

what does the constitution say? After independence, all Malaysian citizens enjoy equality regardless of race, colour or creed with some exceptions like Article 153 which allows for reservation of places in universities, government service and licences for Malays and other natives.

Your arguments are devoid of any merit and are repugnant to the constitution. At one time, Thailand had sovereignty over northern states and can now Thailand claim them? Of course, it cannot. Rais, your comments are ill-conceived.

you are obviously a sad by-product of decades of social engineering by the Umno/BN propaganda.

In your myopic and shallow mind, Malays are the true owners of this land and are entitled to whatever the resources this country has.

You also believe that the special positions of Malays and their entitlement have been challenged and threatened by non-Malays, despite the fact that these non-Malays are a mere fiction manufactured by the Umno/BN narrative.

Therefore, according to the Umno/BN propaganda, Malays must come together and unite under Umno/BN while turning a blind eye to decades of abuse of power and indiscriminate plundering of nation's wealth by the Malay ruling elite from Umno/BN.

In 100 years, the few Chinese and Indians in Malaysia will still be called ‘pendatang’ (immigrants) by racialist politicians.

While possibly the descendants of the Rohingya among us today will be considered bumiputera, and perhaps some joining in the age-old tradition of calling non-Muslims ‘pendatang’.

It will always be about race and religion. Never either. The title is deceiving. Only on one condition, that is convenience. If race is different than it is religion. Very simple universal formula.
One exception is power corrupts both.

That is the simple reason we are all in this state.

The man is an utterly unreconstructed "Rais-ist".

Yes, a racist

and "pro-Rais-ist" first and above all else.

A suppurating little clot of egotism and narcissism:

both personal and collective-enthocratic.

A disgrace .. ..

Feet in the gutter, mind and fouled-up soul too .. .

Please take note that like Covid-19, it spares no one whatever the creed or religious background you are from. The underlines speaks volume to open our eyes that we are at the mercy of God. Do not further try to divide and rule. United we stand, divided we fall as a nation. To show mercy, respect and love to one another, we can build the nation together. We need to throw out such gutters in Politics, nation building for our future generations to come. We are all created in the image of God, so, be respectful to all . Refugees are human too and deserve our support for their plight. None will like to end up as refugee if the country that they derive have the love for one another.

Why do good men turn evil because there seem to be an evil force still prevailing. And it is always the evilness that people succumb to first than being good.

Who knows how they will be repaid maybe coronavirus maybe cancer maybe worse.. Just sit back and watch their Greedy plans... Giving dedak to so many people of authority to reprimand remand and restrain innocent hard working decent people. Race and religion used wrongly as means to grab money and loot. Malaysia will crumble if this continues.

We have to be wary of our own select few, who will forever keep mauling our own.....And now, they’re ‘mauling’ Muslim refugees

Pronouns like ‘kita’ (we) are dangerous when you use it in opposition to a group you consider to be different from you, as former minister and Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chief Rais Yatim does in his tweet - first to separate himself from the Rohingyas and then to equate the Rohingyas to the ‘kaum lain’ (other races) that he says came in the 1920s under Britain.

Rais does not explain who the ‘us’ are in opposition to his ‘kaum lain’. Is it just his little ignorant self?

Or does it include Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu - all formerly under Siam until incorporated into the territory that now forms Malaysia by the British? Are these states also the ‘kaum lain’ - the others?

Does he also exclude from the ‘us’ the people of Sabah and Sarawak, who were also ‘brought’ in by the British?

He admonishes the ‘us’ to learn from history. Rais is no historian, no humanist and he is even not consistent with his beliefs. I just wish to remind Rais that both history and law are on the side of his ‘kaum lain’.

Rais has no better claim to the ‘us’ than those who came to these territories to eventually form the Federation of Malaya and then Malaysia. Rais has no claim to a predominant ‘us’. His claim to that is no better than that of any of his ‘kaum lain’.

I always had a lot of respect for Rais as an elder politician, but he has let me and many others down with his statement with regard to "the country's past experience of accepting other races" (when dealing with Rohingya refugees).

He is obviously referring to the Chinese, Indians and Indonesians. He should have confined his statement to the present situation regarding the Rohingya ‘refugees’.

I feel deeply hurt by his statement, and my sentiment is shared by the millions of patriotic Malaysians of various ethnic origins. Rais should rightly apologise to all Malaysians for his verbal outburst.

There are no lessons in our history that can be learnt here. Rais draws a bad analogy.

The Indians and Chinese who were brought here in the early part of the 20th century by an established government to help in the building of the nation's infrastructure and economy. They were not refugees. Their contribution to the building of the nation was enormous.

Malaya was relatively sparsely populated at the time and the Malay rulers, acting on the advice of British advisors, decided to import labour from foreign lands.

India and China were ideal places to obtain indentured labour. People from there were prepared to live and work in very difficult and dangerous conditions for very little pay.

The Rohingyas are refugees fleeing persecution by Myanmar. There may be some troublemakers among them. But the vast majority are trying hard to survive under very difficult circumstances.

It is a decision for us to make whether we choose to absorb them into our population. The other option is to wait for matters to be resolved in Myanmar or for third nations to take them in as refugees.

Posted by Ivanka Trump U>S>A > 2020-05-22 11:35 | Report Abuse

Ever since the 1920s, we have been divided by the elites amongst us who pursued political power and positions (something we have been doing to this day) and the majority amongst us who were content with tending to the field and flock. We mauled our own.

While the elites amongst us sent our children to schools abroad, there was the majority who were content with the ‘sekolah pondok’ and mission schools set up by ‘outsiders’.

These select few amongst us stoke fear of the majority on apostasy by outsider religions and stoke fear that outsiders will monopolise commerce rightfully belonging to bumiputeras.

And they stoke many other fears that mauled the minds of the majority and made them cower under the ‘protection’ of the select few.

That majority amongst us today are still cowering in fear which they are unable to shake off after years of being psychologically mauled by their own.

The select few have left the majority still struggling far behind. The select few have been mauling billions of ringgits which, if it had been shared, would have raised the state of the majority over the past 60 years. A state in which the majority is still struggling.

And thus, we have to be wary of our own select few, more than the outsiders of the 1920, who will forever keep mauling our own.

OPEN up your eyes and look around. The world is talking about globalisation, life on Mars, artificial intelligence replacing low-end manual work.

But all you worry about is refugees from the unfortunate third world competing with Malays in this land. After almost 50 years of special privileges and rights, shouldn’t Malay be at least on par with the 1920s 'pendatangs' (immigrants) by now?

The holy month of Ramadan is observed as a month of fasting, atonement for past mistakes, being thoughtful about what we think, say and do, seek forgiveness from those whom we have hurt and to forgive those who have hurt us.

The same is observed by Christians during the month of Easter.

Of what good is Ramadan and Easter if our heart and mind are filled to the brim with thoughts that distance us from God.

I have the highest respect for people truly faithful to whatever religions they embrace, but definitely not the fakes. Rais has this habit of exposing his deep most inner thoughts at the most unlikely time.

Selamat puasa to all devout Muslims.

Posted by Larrie Chew > 2020-05-22 11:39 | Report Abuse

There is no point arguing with Rais--his perceived thoughts are clearly showing that he is justifying the wrong they have done. MONEY was their supreme goal, not religion or race. It again shows now.

When they talk of history, why stop at the British and why not go further- the Hindu civilization or the south China migrants who flooded the south east asian regions--where the malays are genetically connected..But what a bloody shame -go learn.

The non-Malays, who are not the indigenous inhabitants of Malaysia, have to acknowledge that the Malays are the original settlers of Malaysia and Malaysia is their homeland, just like China and India are the original homelands of the Chinese and Indians respectively.
The original settlers of the Malay Archipelago, comprising the states of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Brunei, classified as the Malay ethnic group, are made up of Indonesians, Malays, Filipinos and Brunei Malays. The advent of imperialism into South East Asia resulted in the colonisation of these states, splitting them into Dutch Indonesia, British Malaysia, and Spanish Philippines. If not due to imperialism, Malay Archipelago would be united to form into a great Malay Kingdom.
In the case of Malaysia, the Malay ethnic group is made up of Malays, Melanaus, Dayaks, Orang Asli, Kadazans and other indigenous groups.
As the Malays are the original settlers and consider Malaysia as their homeland, they are entitled to certain inherited rights, while others are entitled to certain rights in accordance with the existing laws as fellow Malaysians.
If this is acknowledged and accepted by the non-Malays sincerely and truthfully, the Malays will be more accommodating to the wider demands of the non-Malays, willingly without grudge.

Good post!

682pujut2b In the scenario when all the PA are converted, AGES would successfully raise an additional RM550m of share capital from the PA conversion at 12 cents + 1 PA (issued at 1 cent). This would be essential for AGES to undertake very large projects.
22/05/2020 7:32 AM

682pujut2b Latest Q2 2020 report ending 31.12.2020, AGES total current assets 240m, total debts & liabilities RM88m (short term RM82m, LT RM6m). Assume that all ST and LT debts and liabilities are paid of, the remaining net current asset is about RM152m.
If AGES can raise another RM550m from the PA holders through conversion to mother shares, the net current asset nearly all in cash would be about RM702m. The enlarged ordinary shares would be about 5251m (640m existing shares + from (3861+750) PA conversion). The average net cash per ordinary share based on the enlarged ordinary shares would be RM0.1337 (RM702m divided by enlarged shares of 5251m) .
Above calculation excludes the non current assets of RM72m reported in Q2 2020 report.
22/05/2020 8:10 AM

682pujut2b =((27.5*1000)/15)*15%*(1-25%)/X25
If the sand project can be executed smoothly and assuming a reasonable PBT margin of 15%, the net profit per annum would be about 200m for 15 years.
This would amount to EPS of about RM0.04. At the current share price of RM0.16, the prospective PE is about 4 (RM0.16/RM0.04 = 4 ) which seems to be very attractive.
