What coup, Azmin asks over rumours of 129 MPs ‘backing’ Dr M
ALOR SETAR: Senior minister Mohamed Azmin Ali today said rumours of a “coup” by Dr Mahathir Mohamad to topple the Perikatan Nasional with the support of 129 MPs were “unheard of”.
Azmin hoped all MPs would take heed of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s advice to not cause another political turmoil.
He said they must realise that PN was in power because Dr Mahathir resigned.
“I don’t know where this 129 (MPs) came from. But let’s look at the Agong’s speech in Parliament recently.
“The king said he advised Mahathir not to resign, but he insisted on doing so. And when the PM’s post is vacant, the king is obliged to fill it with a person he deems best.
“The selection was done openly and transparently as per the Federal Constitution. The king found Muhyiddin Yassin to command the support of the majority in Parliament.
“Who do you blame for all this? When there is a vacancy, it has to be filled,” he said at a press conference after meeting Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor at Wisma Darul Aman here today.
Azmin said the rakyat should not be dragged into politics “until they suffer”.
“There are individuals who are power crazy and eager to be PM. Enough, I say. Don’t blame Perikatan Nasional, what has happened is a PM has resigned.
“Now, it is time to concentrate on serving the people,” he said.
Earlier, a report by Sin Chew Daily said there would be a “coup” in July, with Mahathir requiring “just three seats” to regain power.
The daily, quoting a source, claimed that three MPs holding ministerial positions were planning to defect to Pakatan Harapan.
It said PH will have the support of 129 MPs in the 222-member Parliament.
All needed is just a few MPs to wake up to their conscience to rejoin PH or move across to form a new government to block the crooks and thieves from regaining power. The rakyat will be forever grateful to their the unselfish attitude in preventing this land from becoming the new hell. They will be known in history as savers of this land for many generations to come.
The King is not likely to accept any SDs now because he has as PM to advice him as per Article 40. Unless, I repeat Muhiyiddin resigns as PM. Then he could advice the king to dissolve the Dewan Rakyat and if the king declines, he must resign for another candidate to be appointed as PM.
If not have to wait until July 25 when Dewan Rakyat convenes. Vote of no confidence is the answer.
O'MIGHTY ,Then how and why did the state governments in Johore, Melaka, Perak and Kedah change hands? There was no vote of no confidence in the State Assemblies and no resignation of the MB or CM other than in Perak.
I guess tomorrow Tun M can send a letter to sack the other half of Bersatu too for the same reason sitting on the opposite side in Parliament! How stupid does this get! And all for the power grab with no respect for the Rakyat’s vote!
I doubt if the king will entertain Mahathir. If so, this will be a never ending circus with PH and PN taking turns to oust each other. And no regards for the rakyat whatsoever. The only ones to make money out of it will be the politicians who just frog from one coalition to another and enrich themselves. Mahathir was caught on tape saying he didn't like DAP and Anwar and that Bersatu should leave the coalition. And then the Sheraton Move happened. He paralysed PH and its reform agenda by refusing to hand over to Anwar . Mahathir was never a reformist. He was always a racist . Except to his Chinese and Indian cronies where they mutually enriched each other. The rakyat can afford to wait for GE 15. Not Mahathir though because he's running out of time. He will not stop until his son becomes PM or DPM. The rakyat should just abandon this selfish old man who is the cause of all these shenanigans. We will wait for the emergence of a group of rakyat -centric leaders.
Agree with GoodieTwoShoe. It is all about the latest 112 signed SDs. If the Agung and Sultans can meet any leader previously who has majority SDs, then on the same principle, the Ruler is obligated to meet Tun and the other 111 to verify this. Anything else would be construed as obstruction in the formation of a parliamentary majority government in accordance with the constitution. If the Ruler feels that either side’s 112 is a tenuous majority, then the Ruler can advise both parties to agree to the dissolution of the parliament for fresh elections
This instability is bound to happen, when a backdoor PM and govt is allowed to be formed. The federal and state govts are going to be destabilised because of these backdoor govt. The winners of GE14,wont just accept this nonsense lying down They will fight back .The Agong and Sultans who swear in these backdoor govts should have known better.
Sacked from Umno in 1969. Resigned as PM in 2003. 2008 resigned from Umno. Quit Umno again in 2016. Resigned from Bersatu in 2020. Resigned again as PM in 2020. And now sacked from Bersatu. Hmm is there anything unpredictable about this man?
Actually that should have happened on Wednesday of Sheraton week. PH 92 + Tun Bersatu 6 + Warisan 10 + GPS 18 = 126. Agong would have reappointed Tun M as PM. But it didn't happen because PH decided to turn their backs on Tun M. On Tueday night at meeting at PKR HQ. They decided to nominate Anwar as PM instead. They were very confident they would succeed as they were all smiles when they met the Agong on Wed. But it turned out to be a disaster because GPS withdrew support. They only support if Tun M remained PM.
This PH never ever learns its lesson. Always in the last minute try to outsmart others and in the end nothing materialized and in fact turned into disaster. Sigh.
The proposed coalition is not Tun M's UG. By then that has totally failed because Pas and Umno had also rejected it. It's a new coalition which was the easiest and surest way for PH to return to power. But PH stupidly didn't take it. Anwar saw the opportunity to become PM himself. He managed to convince PH that he has the numbers to succeed. But obviously he didn't. Thurs he was running around like a cockroach. In the end, on Fri night he crawled back to Tun M begging him to return as PM. Too late GPS has given support to PN.
Its better to test the majority in Parliament than other avenues.Agongs speech is written by Mooidin. This instability happens ,when you allow the formation of a illegitimate backdoor PM and govt.Even the states Johore,Malacca Perak,Kedah, all have backdoor govts allowed by the sultans .There is going to be instability for a long time which will affect the economy.Backdoor govts against the wishes of the rakyat, should have never been allowed.
Even vote of confidence go through without changing current political parties to manage government, people or M still find unending fault or promote to the public that this is back door government. As long as the administrator is not your parties even they passed through legal process, u always try to say bad with your own way of law. Market is very good under this government, do we want to change into uncertainty again?
