The government has decided to cut entertainment duty tax for theme parks, family recreation centres, indoor game centres and simulators from 25% to only 5% in Klang Valley.

This could potentially be a boon to Sunway Group (Sunway) as it owns a big theme park called Sunway Lagoon that has been the mainstay of Klang Valley for many years.

Sunway is a conglomerate involved in the real estate, construction, education and healthcare industries. Its flagship theme park, Sunway Lagoon is located next to its flagship mall of Sunway Pyramid.

Sunway’s revenue rose by 14.2% to RM$2.7 billion in 1H 2023 from RM$2.4 billion in 1H 2022 due to a rise in property development and investments segments revenue amid the full reopening of the Malaysian economy. Meanwhile, profits also rose by 1.9% to RM$395 million from RM$388 million over the same period as it was constrained by lower margins from its construction business.

Sunway Bhd (CGS-CIMB Target Price RM2.57; Buy)

Controversial land deal aborted

Sunway’s 559-acre BKIP2 land deal has been aborted, the Edge reported
today. While land price was attractive, it removes a key overhang, in our
view.

We think Sunway will be able to recover the majority of the RM64m initial
payment. Reiterate Add and TP of RM2.57 (10% discount to SOP).

We reiterate our Add rating and TP of RM2.57 based on a 10% discount to SOP. We
like Sunway as a diversified investment proxy for a robust domestic economy and
growing exposure to healthcare.

If PDC cancel the contract after collecting deposit. PDC has to refund and may face legal action for any lose compensation. So, 64m definitely can recover

Penang Development Corp to fully refund Umech Land deposit

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): Penang Development Corp (PDC) will be required to fully refund the deposit paid by Umech Land Sdn Bhd amounting to RM64.60 million following the termination of the joint development agreement (JDA) for the development of Batu Kawan Industrial Park 2 (BKIP2).

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday, Sunway Bhd confirmed that its 70%-owned subsidiary Umech Land received a notice of termination of the JDA from PDC last Friday.

"Pursuant to the notice of termination, the JDA shall be terminated on the expiry of 90 days from the date of the notice of termination," Sunway said, adding that PDC will fully refund the deposit within a period of 30 days from the date of termination of the JDA.

committed to accelerate the progress of the Johor-Singapore Special

months. The leaders strongly emphasised the aim to smoother trips for
people and transportation of goods. Companies that can potentially benefit

Sunway Group’s Jeffrey Cheah named honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 30): Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeffery Cheah has been named as an honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire by His Majesty King Charles III of the UK, in honour of his services to higher education, health services and philanthrophy, a press release issued by the British High Commission of Kuala Lumpur on Monday said.

The honorary award is also in recognition of the instrumental role Cheah played in forging high-level partnerships with a number of UK institutions — University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Lancaster University, the Royal College of Physicians, the UK government's Chevening Awards flagship scholarship programme, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) — and contributing towards the bilateral relationship between the UK and Malaysia, the statement added.

on 26/10. Total vol traded is 6.5m. EPF sold 4.599m and bought 4.593m shares. If EPF sell high buy low. Total vol at least 9m+. That means most of the Vol traded are from one of the EPF Account sold to another EPF account!

Beside Sime Darby Property reporting stellar Q3 performance, yesterday on Nov 24 Sunway Bhd, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd to team up for the development of commercial land in Precincts 7 and 8 within the administrative capital.

The MOU lays the foundation for future cooperation between organisations in various sectors such as medical, education, property development and hospitality for development. The cooperative effort will also explore the development of a medical centre in one of the parcels.

At the time of writing, Sunway was up one sen or 0.51% to RM1.97, giving it a market capitalisation of RM9.86 billion. Year to date, the stock has risen 24.68%.

We favour Sunway as an investment proxy for domestic economic expansion and the re-ignition of Iskandar Malaysia. Additionally, we recognise substantial value within the thriving Sunway healthcare division. We revise our FY24-25 earnings forecasts higher by 1-3% to factor in the stronger-than-expected earnings from the healthcare division. Maintain Buy on Sunway with a higher TP of RM2.80, based on SOP valuation.

Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) research anticipates a re-rating of Sunway Bhd with its upcoming healthcare listing and robust development in Sunway Iskandar. It has a "Buy" call on the stock, with a higher target price of RM3 from RM2.76. The firm said conversations on Sunway will be centred around the listing of its healthcare segment as the timeline for Sunway to list the segment, within the next two to three years, draws closer.

EPF ceased to be a substantial shareholder on 10 November 2023. It was two months plus ago already, EPF should have sold all their holdings.
