Three tender requirements for the iKad tender. 1. 100% registered bumi company. 2. Must have experience in the production and issuance of ID cards. 3. Good track record.

IRIS, MyEG, Hitech and PKN cannot meet one or more of the above basic requirements.

Datasonic's main competitor is PNMB.

PNMB is the vendor of the iKAD since 2015 but did not have good track record in terms of card quality and security features. Under PNMB, production and delivery of iKad was 3 to 4 months.

Datasonic has good experience, expertise and track record in the production and delivery of MyKad to applicants in 30 minutes without compromising on security.

Mr Chew is one of the many witnesses to Government for the case against a former minister of KDN.

Mr Chew had helped his former partner to deliver two private cheques amounting to RM6 mil to a legal firm as stake holders for CSR and political programs in April 2017 and Gov suspected that it could be linked to the award of 12.5 mil passport chips contract given to Datasonic in December 2015 (1.5 years ago) after going through all the due process of verification, various technical tests and price negotiation (May 2014 to December 2015).

According to Datasonic's company announcement, government has saved more than RM65 mil and is embracing latest technology to bond the passport chip into the polycarbonate data page. To put the chip at the back of paper based passport cover is a 20-year old technology.

Datasonic rumored to be in line for government contracts

Datasonic Group Bhd shares have surged in price on rumors that it may win a new contract with the government of Malaysia, where the company is based.

The company already provides biometric facial recognition to the government for border control, and stood up a joint venture to develop next-generation biometrics with Digent last year.

A contract for online renewal of temporary foreign workers for the country’s Immigration Department was extended, ahead of a possible new contract. The news sent Datasonic company warrant DSONIC-WA up by 11 percent in a day to 65 sen, on the second highest volume among public companies on Bursa Malaysia, with nearly 109 million units traded.

The contract for temporary foreign workers is currently held by MyEG, which has received notice to continue providing the service until informed otherwise. The contract had been set to expire on May 22.

Other contract expected to be handed out in the near future include tenders for the Foreign Visa System, One-Stop Centre, Foreigner Identity Card (I-Kad), Electronic Medical Records, and National Digital ID, according to market analyst firm RHB Research, which notes Malaysia’s government is attempting to attempting to speed up its digitalization.

RHB raised its target price for Datasonic stock from RM1.67 to RM1.84.
