IPOH (March 15): The ringgit is expected to surge to 3.80 against the US dollar in the near term, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

The Prime Minister said his optimism emanated from positive indicators like the nation's strong economic performance, as well as the country's export value of more than RM80 billion in the first quarter of this year.

"Our currency yesterday dropped slightly to 3.90 from 3.89 (against the US dollar). InsyaAllah, in the near term it may rise to 3.80.

“In terms of currency value, ours is among the best performing currencies as several months ago the ringgit had weakened to 4.49. But it will surge to 3.80 soon," he said when addressing the Prime Minister’s Budget 2018 with People-Civil Servants programme attended by over 5,000 people, here today.

This is the fourth edition of the programme in Najib’s quest to share the country's success stories and explain various government policies that had been and will be implemented.

Najib was greeted on arrival at the Allied Health Sciences College, Tanjung Rambutan near here by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and State Secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan.

The Prime Minister described the rating affirmation of three international bodies, namely Fitch, Moody’s and Standard & Poors on the government administrative capability recently as not an ordinary recognition.

He said the three international rating agencies had visited the country to carry out an in-depth study in terms of facts and figures before affirming Malaysia ratings at ‘A’.

"Our country ratings was affirmed at ‘A-’, Singapore may be higher but we are in Group A, (while) Italy at B, Greece was worse, Russian at B. So, if people said we will go bankrupt, it is just common sense that Group B will go bankrupt first. How can A go bankrupt before B.

“During the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, our reserve was at US$20 billion, but the bankrupt story did not surface then. Now our country’s reserve stood at US$103 billion, a five-fold increase from before," he said.

He said the value of national loans against Gross Domestic Product also declined from 54 per cent to 50.8 per cent.

agreed with JJ. only few counters react GE 14 with volume and price. others are sleeping or side ways. BN nor announcing date but evey tom dick harry ecpects parliament to dissolve. EC new voters list to be past by parliament (dewan rakyat followed by dewan negara ) by convention.? dewan rakyat will end thier last session . BN expected to bulldoze it and used the new voter list without refering to dewan negara for reading before April 6. dissolution and calling for GE 14 needs a minium of { 7 days } for nomination plus another 7 -10 days for campaign. my guess before end april

Spec stock lar. Keep a bit longer possible make some money. They won a small.kucing kurap 460k contract. Win 46m contract then can.shout a bit. Win 460m contract then can shout out more. Haha. But can they manage big contracts and make a profit out of it. Do they have execution success. I doubt it. But at very low then can make some cents..

He probably knows some contract wins but I doubt he knows the value or profitability of each contracts. Only the President and certain staff in business development or finance know this info. Anyway, you don't need to know these if you are planning to just profit from the short term price burst after the announcement.

Very well written analysis. Based on history of offshore drilling cycle, it took ten years from the trough no. 1 to reach peak no. 3. So, are you ready hold this share for 10 years to fully reap its profit opportunity? I am very surprised that Maybank wrote such an objective analysis considering they are the major financier for Umwog.

Not sure if putting another director will make any difference. It is the management that is running the show. Directors are just providing check and balance (aka rubber stamp). They may not necessarily provide any value but is receiving allowance from the board meetings every month apart from medical benefits and leave passage.

Even though Dow Jones drop heavily on Thursday and Friday, umwog remain strong and doesn't affect at all. With improve Brent crude breaking 70USD as a new benchmark and maintain persistently for many months, oil and gas industry indefinitely open the door for more oil rigs benefits serving as major industry once again. The right timing after lying low for the past few years shall bounce back to it's previous platform. Buy when dip keep as potential investment just as TF enhance Air Asia. It is parallel no doubt about it.
