KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar today over a lack of fiscal clarity following the May 9 general election, dealers said.

At 6pm, the local unit was quoted at 3.9800/9850 versus Tuesday's close of 3.9655/9685.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was mostly higher against a basket of other currencies.

It strengthened against the Singapore dollar to 2.9606/9653 from Tuesday's 2.9638/9664, but eased against the yen to 3.6311/6369 against 3.5754/5788 yesterday.

The local note appreciated against the British pound to 5.3133/3216 from 5.3423/3480, and increased against the euro to 4.6662/6728 from 4.6884/6924 on Tuesday. - BERNAMA
