WHO RIG THE LIBOR?

Tom Hayes, a British trader, convicted of rigging the Libor (a global benchmark for cost of borrowing).  The bank was fined for about USD500 million.

WHO RIG THE GOLD?

Plunkett, a trader from Barclays, manage to "fix" the gold price and gain about USD1.5 million, later found out by regulators and Barclays was fined USD44 million and Plunkett was fined about USD120,000 and loss his licence to trade.

WHO RIG THE CURRENCY?

5 banks was fined up to USD5.4 billion for rigging the currencies to their favour.

WHO RIG THE STOCK NYSE MARKETS?

August 2011, the NYSE drop about 1,000 points and only to recover 400 points when the market close, when Shanghai drop 8.5%.  No one was caught.  The NYSE went up 200% after that.

When the market dropped about 50% in 2008/9, no news of rigging?  How come the government of USA didn't come in and manipulate it?

WHO RIG THE OIL RIGS?

Last Friday, in the early day of the trade, S&P500 dropped about 1.5% (bad employment figures) and rebounded and was up 1.0% at the end of the trade because of US rig counts was reduced (i.e. lower production expected).

But, Gary Shilling think otherwise, here is why:

With new discoveries, stability in parts of the Middle East and increasing drilling efficiency, global oil output will no doubt rise in the next several years, adding to pressure on prices. U.S. crude oil production is forecast to rise by 300,000 barrels a day during the next year from 9.1 million now. Sure, the drilling rig count is falling, but it’s the inefficient rigs that are being idled, not the horizontal rigs that are the backbone of the fracking industry. Consider also Iraq’s recent deal with the Kurds, meaning that another 550,000 barrels a day will enter the market.
