After today's General Meeting and confirmation of the dividend and issue of shares for the dividend re investment plan, there should be an announcement in the next day or so regarding prescribed dates.
I expect the Ex Date to be around mid May with the payout in mid June (just my personal opinion).

Is this the wave that pushes through the 6.03 top Bollinger Band? It's had a few attempts in recent weeks but never been able to make the break. The MACD indicator is suggesting it possibly will, only time will tell. It's also being helped by reasonably strong volume.

Let's see how it unfolds.

"Shorts covered for three days this week = 1,107,400. This doesn't include Thursday or Friday as those figures are not available until Monday and Tuesday next week."

Just to conclude last week's short covering, you can add 67,300 to the previous Monday to Wednesday figures.
So a total of 1,174,700 covered for the week.
Starting a new week, there were no new Tenaga shorts yesterday (Monday).

Hi dan, it would be a very difficult job to become a substantial shareholder in this company unless you were to push the price much higher. In round figures you need 6.35 million to attain 1%, so therefore close to 32 million to before you reach the 5% threshold.

When you look at the Distribution of Shareholders list, you can see the "problem" of becoming a sub. holder.

Deekay, the March figures indicate that it's the local institutions that are the net sellers rather than the foreign institutions. They have to pay for those EPF withdrawals somehow :)

ccpool, just for the record, the majority (volume) of short covering in the last 20 to 25 trading days has mainly been done between 9.10 and 9.20+. Any shorts that have been added in the last 3 weeks of trading appear to get covered fairly swiftly, so perhaps indicating a short term trade.

As for your comment about chart analysis, this has been part of my investment strategy for a very long period of time. I can't recall the last purchase I made without looking at the chart indicators prior to hitting the buy button. Obviously I don't merely rely on short/covering data, however it sometimes offers up some indicators on what might be going on in the background.

Wishing you well with your trading and investing.

yes @emox, for the week he added 1,245,200 in total to his already substantial holdings.

April 18, 800,000 and April 22 445,200 shares.

The annual report was released last Friday, so I spent a bit of time over the weekend going through it. I suggest others who are invested in this company also do the same as it gives some insight into their overall business plan.
Also nice to see them about to install solar generation at both terminals, which will also add a couple of ticks to their ESG ratings.

A momentum shift in trading this week, with quite a significant amount of large individual buys, especially on Thursday and Friday.
For some the reasons may be obvious, to others, maybe not quite so much.

I won't comment on my thoughts as to why the change, apart from stating that I remain a holder with a longer term vision than just a few days or weeks.

More consolidation, please.

Just an update on the shorts and covering positions for those that might be interested (probably only one or two...lol)

Shorts this week totalled 800. Four days of 0, one day of 800. Obviously an insignificant number.
Shorts covered for three days this week = 1,107,400. This doesn't include Thursday or Friday as those figures are not available until Monday and Tuesday next week.

For the previous 20 trading days, excluding Thursday and Friday this week, total shorts covered = 11,032,208.

For those with a "glass half full" thought process, they may say there is a trend happening here.
For others, they may say it's going to Rm4.50 :)

I'll stick with the glass half full theory for now, despite the current global headwinds.

It appears that even KPower are attempting to distance themselves from their previous major shareholder, by rebranding and clearly stating that Mr. Karim is no longer a substantial shareholder.

Coincidently, with his resignation from KPower in January this year, a sum of around Rm750 Million evaporated from their order book. It's just like groundhog day.
Some quotes from an article in March 2012, yes 10 years ago.

“It is definitely an indicator that elections are around the corner,” Shaun Levine, a Southeast Asia analyst with Eurasia Group, said of the new wage policy.

"Even former premier Mahathir Mohamad has weighed in, saying the move would bankrupt Malaysia, once known as Southeast Asia’s electronics hub."

"The Malaysia’s Employers Federation painted an even bleaker picture, forecasting that the minimum wage would wipe out 4 million jobs and 200,000 companies."

dan, you asked....."Ptrans ESG rating to improve because of the electric buses, will it contribute positively to the bottom line of the company? "

This is early stage implementation so imo won't do much to the bottom line. We would need to know a lot more about the company's uptake plans for EV buses over the longer term and what percentage their bus fleet would gradually expand to before being able to assess cost benefits.
However, as far as ESG recognition goes then it is a plus tick for the company, as many Funds are now compelled to view company ESG initiatives as part of their overall criteria for investments. That's not to say that it will add a prescribed percentage of value to the share price but it does add more credibility towards their business plan and ESG development and sustainability.

Just my thoughts.

trader808, a well thought out contribution to the thread, thank you.

The only point I believe is worth further discussion is the remarks you made in Point 5, in regards to your assumption that the new terminal would need to generate revenue of ~Rm10 million. On face value I can see your point, however your assumption doesn't include any possible extra income from their current terminals. I would assume they would not remain static through to late 2023, particularly coming out of a two year Covid environment, plus possible added tenancy revenues from those terminals.

Thanks again for your point of view.

dan, if you are asking the question to me.......then yes.
The company is planning and delivering on organic growth, which is one of the main reasons I bought into the company. I would doubt if many mid to long term investors in this company would have any issue with this placement. It may also introduce a new cornerstone investor to the business with the uptake of some of the placement, although that it yet to be proven.

Stating that the placement will/should be completed during this quarter may possibly indicate that those interested in taking up the placement may already be selected.

LM.....for your eyes only.......lol

On January 13 this year HLB came out with a pre December Quarterly report on Bursa, stating that due to steadily lower DATV of Rm2.55 Billion, they reduced their valuation price down to 5.95. At the time I agreed with their assessment and valuation, mainly due to the DATV and the unknown effect of the new stamp duty charges commencing in January 2022.

Then on the 16th March they came out with another report stating a valuation of 7.27. This report coincidently coincided with a 3 day pump in the Bursa share price from 6.20 to 6.90's !!
Now the important part........the DATV for the March quarter only moved up from Rm2.55 Billion to the new DATV of Rm 2.60 Billion. So, a very small marginal change in DATV but a valuation increase of 22% !

Now, on the 14th April they have yet again came out with another valuation update of 7.95, a 33.6% increase from their January 13 report!
Although we are only half way into the first month of the new current quarter, the DATV is around 10% lower than the full March quarter DATV.

From what I have read from all of those 3 reports from HLB, the ONLY thing they are citing as a reason for their continued higher valuations is the "election season effect", although the actual REPORTED NUMBERS don't back up any of their valuations.

Good luck if you are buying Bursa on a possible election boom in the overall market.

It baffles me why something that should be relatively simple to implement is surrounded with so much confusion.
If the minimum wage is set at Rm1,500, then that is the end of the matter. Any proficient business adds that figure into their business plan template and plans their workforce accordingly. If there is no profit in their business model, they either adjust their model or consider that their business is not viable.

As for "odd job" employees, who in the main do not work a full week/month of prescribed hours, then simply create a minimum hourly rate for those type of casual/part time employees.

Wasn't this MR Minister reported to be one of the highest paid politicians in the country last year? Let's see some proactive action and lateral thinking from him to ensure this is done with equality for all minimum paid employees.

Straight out the textbook of the "you know who" lawyer who works on attack and deny as part of the defence for the client.

Please correct me if I am wrong here, but to date, are all charges related to the Capital Markets and Services Act?

If so, and upon the release of the FFU, if (and I emphasise the word "if" ) it infers, suggests, implies, etc. that serious misdemeanours have possibly occurred, then surely it would be a case for either MACC or the Police to investigate thoroughly and make charges to whoever they deem complicit.

I'm not a lawyer and haven't had a chance to discuss with any of my lawyer friends about this current update, however as a layman I would have thought this would have been a rational step with the current situation. Of course, it would only be an option if there was detrimental information published in the yet to be released FFU.

Currently the missing ingredient for this cake to rise is volume and daily increasing volume. There was a glimmer of hope that may eventuate early on Thursday but it couldn't follow up on Friday. Actually, yesterday's (Friday) volume was the lowest for quite a long time (23rd February).

Like most of the market, there is quite a lot of indecision, hence lower volumes across various sectors and GenM is not alone. Patience is the keyword, imo.

I was a little disappointed that it didn't make a move to the 63 cent price point this week, especially after a reasonable start to the week with steady buying at 61 cents on Monday. To be fair, the chart at that point, 61/61.5 was looking a little "toppy" but I thought it might be able to touch 63 before retracing.

With the price currently sitting at 60 cents we might see a small retrace to either 59 or 58 before it makes an attempt to move upwards. Ideally I'd like to see it remain 60 or more but a small retrace wouldn't be a deal breaker, imo. With overall market volume looking fairly weak throughout this past week, we may see similar at least early next week, so there could be an opportunity to buy on mild weakness.

This appears to finally be reaching towards the crossroads on a technical analysis. The question is, how long or short will the time period be before it takes an up or down direction. The last time it was in this position (or reaching this position) was in December 2021 and early January this year. Eventually it broke out to the upside on January 11th.

As a holder I obviously have a natural bias and believe the break will be to the upside. Trying to be unbiased, I'd think that a break and close above 6.08 would indicate that the Rm6 "psychological barrier" has fallen.. As it possibly moves into uncharted waters, I've use Fibonacci to determine some reference price points:

TP1: 6.10
TP2: 6.18
TP3: 6.29
TP4: 6.46

To the downside, watch for any breaks at 5.90, then 5.82.

If I had to put me c*ck on the block and make a decision on the eventual direction then I'd say up, perhaps supported by the 25 cent dividend that should go Ex. Dividend somewhere around mid May. Currently, any softness between 5.90 and 6.00 might be an opportunity to buy in or top up.

Just my thoughts, don't shoot me as I'm only following the bus, not driving it :)

hi KimSua .......clearly "they" are in the process of covering some of their shorts as the figures don't lie. Covering in the last 12 trading days has been quite significant and I also noticed yesterday that no stock was shorted. Impossible to tell if that is significant but probably not as a one day event.

We may see some price appreciation as we lead up to the quarterly report, late May, as that QR will include revenue for two months of the tariff increase placed on industrial/commercial clients (70%+ of power consumption). I'd expect higher profit and margins in that report, which would tie in with your comment of " If you look at the historical data the earnings and profitability will always be reflected in the stock price".
