There has been a prediction of "The Pop and then The Drop" ......
It's normal, because when the market is up, there will be profit taking ....
The big question is what happens after "the Drop" .......

Jack, the last interim dividend was paid on 28th Sept 2011 and amounted to RM39 per lot.
They have declared another interim dividend to be paid end of this month i think.
(Sorry for the late response. I rarely check the stocks, i'm a long term "buy and hold" investor. Haven't touched my portfolio in months and the only reason why i'm back checking abit is because i needed to convert my YTLCement to YTL Corp. After which i'll be hibernating again ....)

The situation in the US is improving, though extremely slowly.
The correction unfortunately, was long overdue.
While it may have been a very fast, sharp & painful correction, normally in such cases, the recovery will also be faster.
It would have been better to name Greece or Italy as your example.
(By the way, it will also happen here, sooner or later.)

I beg to differ on the "learn to sell, rather than buy and hold mentality".
I am still using the passive "buy and hold strategy".
(After a hiatus of 10yrs, i started readjusting the portfolio on 28th July and completed the fine tuning on 5th October. No trades done since that date.)
I have just been watching the market ups and downs but not participating in the madness.
Anyway, now that the market appears to be recovering, my "newly adjusted" portfolio is doing rather well.
The passive "buy and hold strategy" can work for investors but it isn't suitable for traders.

I think when Bursa tried warning players on numerous occasions and failed, they had no choice but to do what they did......
If they had waited any longer, the price might have reached RM3 or beyond and intervening then would be even worse ....

JCY has been making losses in 2011 for the quarters leading up to the Thai floods ......
I am not sure if a profit for their last quarter could wipe out all the losses for the year ...
(NTA was only at RM0.4156 although the loss had reduced to 0.58 sen on 31/6/2011)

I think like me, most "contrarians" base decisions on fundumentals and need to view their selections as picks that will need a minimum of around 3 years before they expect a turnaround .....
If i believe i have done my homework properly on the fundumentals and know i can afford to wait for at least 3 years before expecting any profits then i will invest .......
(The hardest part comes after investing when you have to hold on ..... because when the prices start dropping and fluctuating wildly, it is very easy to give into fear etc ......)

TYK Capital has a paid up capital of RM1,000
It is buying Eng for RM246.4M in cash and Eng is providing it with RM80M loan for the balance of the purchase price.
Basically, it looks like TYK Capital will be using Eng's own cash reserves etc to purchase itself for TYK .....
Does this make sense to anyone?
Anyway, if this over simplification is true, then anything that erodes the cash etc of Eng will definately put the entire acquisition at risk ....

Please read the last 3 posts here and comment or advise
Those of us advising caution can find all sorts of reasons for our advice
Those wanting to buy/hold/accumulate can also find equally good reasons for their belief
That said, we are clearly divided and should agree that WE ALL DISAGREE
I don't think that anyone commenting here means anything personal by their remarks .... i do think however, that this discussion is getting abit too heated .....

2009 Interest Coverage Ratio was -12.549 In 2010 it was -225.877
From Investopedia
"The ability to stay current with interest payment obligations is absolutely critical for a company as a going concern. While the non-payment of debt principal is a seriously negative condition, a company finding itself in financial/operational difficulties can stay alive for quite some time as long as it is able to service its interest expenses.
In a more positive sense, prudent borrowing makes sense for most companies, but the operative word here is "prudent." Interest expenses affect a company's profitability, so the cost-benefit analysis dictates that borrowing money to fund a company's assets has to have a positive effect. An ample interest coverage ratio would be an indicator of this circumstance, as well as indicating substantial additional debt capacity."

Bought this for a long term hold knowing full well it will probably not make a profit for 2011 and 2012 but will most likely be back to normal by 2013 ....

Does the cash and cash equivalents make up part of the NTA or NAV?
If it does then doesn't that mean that where operations are suspended but fixed costs still need to be paid that these balances will be eroded fairly quickly?
Also when i looked at the financials for this company the the Interest Coverage Ratio was in the negative ....
How will this impact the company under the current enviroment?

That said, i agree with richard that it would be prudent to be cautious when playing this counter, especially now ....
(Note : i have not played this counter and never will but this discussion was interesting so i was following it)
I believe richard is an experienced investor and he is just sharing his knowledge with us, which is one of the reasons why alot of us read these blogs ..... we all want to learn .....

i agree with ganasai's analogy however, to be realistic, you have to remember that this takeover is going to have to be financed in some way .....
When a financial institution provides finance they need security and when the risk is heightened or when the value of the underlying security has diminished in some way, they will require a larger spread ......
Do the math and then make your own decision ......

Errr i'm a novice and know absolutely nothing about the markets ....
I started in 1998 by playing the penny stocks only ..... (was heeding the call of the then PM, to support to local market)
I am glad to say that i am still holding 8 of those "penny" counters today as they are now among the top 100 companies
Recently, (after more than a decade of hibernation) i readjusted my portfolio and switched over almost entirely to the the large cap counters (Top 100 companies by market capitalisation) that give a decent dividend and just spread my risk by investing in various sectors ....
I have no system for picking counters (nothing conventional anyway) and have no idea how to read the graphs.
I'm not investing in the proper way and hold at least 16 counters eventhough i know it should only be 5-10 at most ....
There are alot of good teachers here and they would be better equipped to give you very good advice (that's why i am also reading the stuff on this website because i also want to learn how to invest properly)

Something to read and think about (from the Forbes Website)
Andrew Ross Sorkin shines a spotlight on the fact that the former Apple CEO and Forbes billionaire has never been public about his philanthropy. He briefly considers, though seems to dismiss, the possibility that Jobs has been an anonymous donor.
Sorkin does an admirable job of marshaling the evidence that Jobs has devoted much more energy to building wealth than to sharing it. But whether Jobs has been charitable or not, what he does with his money is his choice.
He refused to join the lineup of nearly 70 U.S. billionaires who have pledged to give away at least half their fortunes during life or at death. Facebook co-founders Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz are among those who have joined the philanthropic campaign led by Berkshire HathawayĆ¢??s Warren Buffett and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

As a Long term "buy and hold" investor, i ignore all the "pops" and the "drops".
I'll only see if i have any spare cash to buy, if there is a substantial drop in the market .......
