Malaysia to seek Japan's expertise in AI investment

TOKYO: Malaysia will seek Japan’s assistance on investment in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry in the quest to take its technologies to a more advanced level, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

The Prime Minister said he had a meeting with Masayoshi Son, the founder of Soft Bank, which has investing expertise in the field.

“Originally, we were interested in appointing him as one of the directors of Khazanah Nasional but he said he would be ineffective as an adviser as he is more perceptive in the field of investment.

“He showed us the way to invest through his organisation. He used to invest only from here (Japan) but now he has invested in Arab countries.

“He concentrates only on artificial intelligence and is ready to help us address our financial problems,” the Prime Minister told Malaysian journalists here Wednesday, the last day of his three-day working visit to Japan.

Dr Mahathir described his three-day visit to Japan since Monday as very successful and cited a meeting with Japanese businessmen where he was asked many questions pertaining to Malaysia's development.

“They were very friendly and each one of them expressed a desire to help Malaysia's recovery effort. I believe it was not just a sweet talk. They also showed understanding towards the country’s (fiscal) woes," he said.

On Tuesday, Dr Mahathir delivered a keynote address and held a dialogue with over 500 participants at the 36th Japan-Malaysia Economic Association (Jameca)-Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (Majeca) Joint Conference and Malaysian Business Forum. — BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 5): Genting Malaysia Bhd shares hit limit down today after the stock fell as much as RM1.36 or 30% to RM3.18. The stock fell today after Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said during Malaysia's Budget 2019 tabling on Friday the country will raise the annual casino licence fee from RM120 million to RM150 million.

Lim also said casino tax will be increased to 35% of gross income. At Bursa Malaysia today, FBM KLCI-linked Genting Malaysia shares were traded at RM3.38 at 9:44am with some 170 million shares crossed.

Genting Malaysia, which was the bourse's top decliner, was also the most-active stock.

Today, CIMB Research analyst Nigel Foo wrote in a note: "Genting Malaysia's casino operations were hit with a 10% hike in casino duties in Budget 2019, the first rate hike in 20 years. Duties are 35% now."

"This was a negative surprise as we had expected a smaller casino duty rate hike. The rate was previously around 25%. The stock remains a Hold. We cut TP (target price) from RM5.25 to RM4.85," Foo said.

Hohup-WA which is RM0.02/0.025 now will expire on 21 Dec 2018. Exercise Price is RM0.60. Mother now RM0.41.

TNlogis-WC which is RM0.015/0.02 now will expire on 26 Dec 2018. Exercise Price is RM1.00. Mother now RM0.92.

Genting-WA which is RM0.09/0.095 now will expire on 18 Dec 2018. Exercise Price is RM7.96. Mother now RM7.60

Actually what affects their prices? Can have such a huge difference
