China exports way more to the US than the US does to china.
That's why there is such a huge trade deficit for US. US sells nothing really to the 1.4bil market (soy bean and other agriculture stuff maybe), while they buy alot from that market.
I give a "like" because the author has his independent opinion on the future direction of US-China trade war and supported with reasons. I do not know whether the US-China trade war will turn out to be like what the author claims. More important thing is I see the systematic and rational thinking process.
because, no matter how this thing develops, America will be the loser.
The best strategy for America, for the world was the one under Obama.....ie.....managing the most important bilateral relationship in the world........
now...its a goner...its a lose - lose strategy.....And China is not going to kow tow....no way is China going to kow tow.....and China has resilience, China has options, China is united, China has all round support.......
ps...a bit of warning.....this anti China thing has racists elements as well as nationalists elements and both Democrat and Republican support......and is not going away just like that.............the author is too optimistic and based his conclusions on what is logical.....and things happen based on emotions just as often as based on logical brain..........
China has the nuclear option. China can make the American companies in China suffer.......don't make China consider the nuclear option.........lol.....
So much hot air. As long as USD is the reserve currency in the world, US will dictate world trade. US can always print money to accommodate trade deficits, while other countries including China can't. So how to compete? However, US is politically on the decline. China will eventually be the most powerful country in the world but ONLY AFTER the US self destructs.
China total trade worldwide is USD3.9 trillion. Or about 30% of GDP. 30% not so much also hor ;). US is easily 14% of that.
US is by far the largest partner. Double that of the second, ie japan.
You cannot just whack a figure there and say its low effect, you need to consider second and third order effects.
If you study economic history, it takes very very little quantitatively to cause a recession, espeacially given the debt of each countries.
Go read Ray Dalio - A Template for understanding big debt crises.
And in china, recession is not just unthinkable, but cannot even consider. Just a drop in growth, considering the sheer about of overcapacity there, they will call mother father.
Now china SME's and manufacturing all call mother call father.
XJP will buckle. He will need to have china stop acting like samseng little brother. He will need to stop all the corporate episionage going on, and the unfair trade practices.

Answer : You don't have to watch CCTV anymore! Most of mainstream media and news from internet are bought by CCP! China propaganda thriving nowadays! Even Hollywood actors submit to great Xi!===============
People thought he was an idiot when handling NK too :)
Trump, you cannot listen to what he say, you need to see what he do.
This man talk like idiot, because in his entire life, he never needed to explain himself, or make sense, because he never had a boss. He was always in a position where people need to understand him, not the other way round.
For the USA, he is one of the best presidents they can hope for.

Trump says win is easy....I say Trump is an idiot.
Jon you are right on Trump. One important result in the latest midterm election is that he has strengthened his hold on the Senate, where laws has to be passed. The Democrats can try all they can but they need a Senate majority to pass laws.
Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act, formally United States Tariff Act of 1930, also called Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act, U.S. legislation (June 17, 1930) that raised import duties to protect American businesses and farmers, adding considerable strain to the international economic climate of the Great Depression.
that is a certainty and equally certain is the outcome.....
Trade deficit bcs US don't have superior products to offer to china. You can't force china to support Boeing US when china like Airbus jets ma. look at Boeing crash record. wakaka
Trump's trade war has turned China away from buying American oil & gas. Next time when they come around to ask China to buy oil & gas, China should say No problem, we will pay you in Yuan...... Killing many birds with one shot.
is a matter of time before china excel in everthing. Is very simple, massive population, probability of geniuses appearing much higher, competitive environment, big companies exist in china, funds etc. Money can buy techs. So is just a matter of time before china surpasses US almost all fields.
actually what Trump doing to China may seem bad for china, maybe in short term yes, but it is teaching china not to be dependend on US, so China will need to evolve from there.
Ha...21st Century belongs to China...this is fated...so many great human beings are born in China during this Century...US is declining...just like the British Empire declined during the 19th Century... History will repeat itself...China will be like the past glorious Tang Dynasty...!!!
I wonder why there are still people supporting thieves. They supported ah Jib and now the communist regime??
In fact XJP is surrendering due to too many Chinese companies cry dad cry mom. (the past 6 months the Communist has been trying to expropriate largest companies, really scary). XJP already made a phone call to Trump and said he will compromise. China already ordered measures to protect intellectual property. In the coming meeting, China will show more bona fide. The trade war is already ending. Many thanks to Trump, he has just made Chinese more civilize.

Agreed.
Nobody can stop the tide.
It is rising for China.
Let US go and fight a few more wars and the tide will rise even faster for China.
