Our universe was born about 13.7 billion years ago in a massive expansion that blew space up like a gigantic balloon. A quantum fluctuation is the temporary change in the amount of energy in a point in space. This allows the creation of particle-antiparticle pairs of virtual particles. Quantum fluctuations may have been necessary in the origin of the structure of the universe: according to the model of expansive inflation the ones that existed when inflation began were amplified and formed the seed of all current observed structure. Vacuum energy may also be responsible for the current accelerating expansion of the universe (cosmological constant).

At about 10 to the minus 36 seconds — one trillionth of a trillionth of a trillionth of a second — after the Big Bang, the universe underwent an extremely brief and dramatic period of inflation, expanding faster than the speed of light. It doubled in size perhaps 100 times or more, all within the span of a few tiny fractions of a second. This rapidly expanding universe was pretty much empty of matter, but it harbored huge amounts of dark energy.During inflation, dark energy made the universe smooth out and accelerate. But it didn't stick around for long. "It was just temporary dark energy. It is converted into ordinary matter and radiation through a process called reheating. The universe went from being cold during inflation to being hot again when all the dark energy went away." Around the time of inflation, the strong force likely separated out. And by about 10 trillionths of a second after the Big Bang, the electromagnetic and weak forces became distinct, too.
Just after inflation, the universe was likely filled with a hot, dense plasma.

But by around 1 microsecond (10 to the minus 6 seconds) or so, it had cooled enough to allow the first protons and neutrons to form. In the first three minutes after the Big Bang, these protons and neutrons began fusing together, forming deuterium (also known as heavy hydrogen). Deuterium atoms then joined up with each other, forming helium-4 . These newly created atoms were all positively charged, as the universe was still too hot to favor the capture of electrons . But that changed about 380,000 years after the Big Bang.

In an epoch known as recombination, hydrogen and helium ions began snagging electrons, forming electrically neutral atoms . Light scatters significantly off free electrons and protons, but much less so off neutral atoms. So photons were now much more free to cruise through the universe. This process, known as reionization, seems to have run its course by around 1 billion years after the Big Bang. The universe is not opaque today, as it was before recombination, because it has expanded so much. The universe's matter is very dilute, and photon scattering interactions are thus relatively rare.

Over time, stars gravitated together to form galaxies, leading to more and more large-scale structure in the universe. Planets coalesced around some newly forming stars, including our own sun. And 3.8 billion years ago, life took root on Earth. The crucial elements for life on Earth, often called the building blocks of life, can be abbreviated as CHNOPS: *carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur.* For the first time, astronomers have cataloged the *abundance of these elements in a huge sample of stars* . Scientists had mapped the abundance of all of the major elements found in the human body across hundreds of thousands of stars in our Milky Way.

With the Big Bang, only the lightest elements existed, such as hydrogen, helium and minuscule amounts of lithium. The first generation of stars formed as lumps of gas drew together and eventually began to combust. This would cause a nuclear reaction in the centre of a star. The first stars that formed after the Big Bang were greater than 50 times the size of our Sun. Inside stars a process takes place called nucleosynthesis, which is basically the making of elements. The  first stars burned their fuel quickly and were able to make only a few elements heavier than hydrogen and helium.

When those stars went supernova and expelled the elements they had produced, they seeded the next generation of stars. The next generation of seeded stars were then able to produce other, heavier kinds of elements such as carbon, magnesium and nearly every element in the periodic table. Large stars last for a few million years, while smaller stars more than 10 billion years.

Any element in your body that is heavier than iron has travelled through at least one supernova. So it's very likely that there are a whole bunch of different stars that have contributed the elements we see in our own solar system, our planet and those found within you.
This process has been going on for something like 13 billion years and  our solar system is formed only 4.5 billion years ago.

RNA was the first genetic molecule

Experiments in the 1960s showed that messenger RNA has the ability to store genetic information, while transfer and ribosomal RNA have the ability to translate genetic information into proteins. Experiments performed two decades later showed that some RNAs can even act as an enzyme to self-edit their own genetic code!

These results raised two questions: 1) Why does RNA play so many roles in the flow of genetic information? 2) Why bother storing genetic information in DNA, if RNA alone could do the job?

RNA has great capability as a genetic molecule; it once had to carry on hereditary processes on its own. It now seems certain that RNA was the first molecule of heredity, so it evolved all the essential methods for storing and expressing genetic information before DNA came onto the scene. However, single-stranded RNA is rather unstable and is easily damaged by enzymes. By essentially doubling the existing RNA molecule, and using deoxyribose sugar instead of ribose, DNA evolved as a much more stable form to pass genetic information with accuracy.

L-amino acids, key for the evolution of life came from extraterrestrial space?

All proteins, which are functional molecules of living creatures are made by combining 20 kinds of amino acids. Except one amino acid, each amino acid has two forms (isomer) named D (dexer meaning right) and L (meaning left). D-amino acid is a mirror image of L-amino acid.

It is established that amino acids are generated in the prebiotic earth from simple molecules such as methane, water, ammonia, and hydrogen by so called chemical evolution . Ordinary chemical synthesis of amino acids always generates a racemic mixture (a mixture of the same amounts of L- and D-amino acids), because enantiomers have identical chemical properties. To prepare L-amino acid alone, we need a special method utilizing asymmetric chemical like an enzyme consisting of only L-amino acids.

Surprisingly, only L-amino acids are building blocks of proteins . Since the discovery of enantiomers by Pasteur in the 19th century, the origin of L-amino acids in the biosphere is a longtime mystery. Since proteins are essential to maintain the cell, the origin of L-amino acids is directly linked with the evolution of life.

Recently it was found that meteorites contained L-rich isovaline by 10%. This non-physiological amino acid is supposed to cause the L-amino acid-rich earth. Namely it is speculated that an extra-terrestrial substance generated L-amino acids. This concept resembles the idea that the cell came from the extra-terrestrial space. (Panspermia vs abiogenesis)
