thanks to jeffchan1901 and sreemani1316 for answering my questions. jeffchan1901 can write a long essay. he has a lot of experience in investing. so which broker should i use: Rakuten or M+ ? jeffchan1901, and sreenmani1316, can you provide email for easier contact?? how long has Air asia been under PN17? I have been with Bursa remiser for about 30 years and whenever i want to buy any shares, he will never give any opinion. the comm is high RM40 min for those under 5K.

@moneyontheway if you want to diy and trade in small amounts, I'd recommend affinhwang einvest because it is only RM5 for each trade < RM10k. If your trades are larger > 10k then maybe M+ will be better

@moneyontheway you're welcome. yes i can get a little long winded sometimes. sign of old age perhaps? my experience has been a very expensive teacher. i wont mention my broker name but i will just give you small clues. 'my broker cannot recommend this stock' and they won a few awards from Euromoney. if you know the answer just say 'i got it. thanks!'

My broker charge is 0.1% or min. RM8 per transaction. not that good. reason i stayed on is bcos of this remisier i was with for a long time and can consider a friend now. so to me since my transactions are quite a sum, the rm8 not really an issue to me. on your case, talk to your remisier to ask him to lower your transaction (i did asked mine and told him that I trade with my own money without credit facility and place my own orders without anyone's help so I should enjoy lower rates), and show them that other brokers are cheaper (just make sure compare apple with apple - cash account only, no margin account). if you trade big enough or they value you enough to retain you, they will reduce as 'special case - dont tell anyone' if they dont, then you may like to follow what sreemani1316 suggestion to change broker, you just need to register with a new broker at RM10 and transfer fee of RM10 per stock (if not mistaken). check out the link and install the app now.

I visited the other forum, and noticed that many cheerleaders have disappeared lately.
Previously, they said they buy the stock because the stock give them peaceful sleep at night....but I suspect, after Putin invaded Ekraine, made them cannot sleep....haha.

Like the sifu tolle said, if you can predict the future price, Warren Buffet will give you USD 1m have lunch with you...haha

So, if you have bought a fundamentally good stock, you keep for long term and never react to short term noise.

As my brother (an ex-banker) used to say, Banking stocks are usually a sure bet as even in financially bad times, banks have assets like land and buildings to dispose of to stay afloat so the risk is minimise. banks as the financial back bone of the country, if like in the US during the great depression, no other stocks will be safe as well. banks will be the last to go

Banks are usually pretty safe investment. When I started investing years ago, I mostly bought Maybank because it was a safe bet. I slowly diversify when I learned about other industries. Even during bad times (around 2020) price remains above RM7. Some people may prefer other banks, but there's little harm in having a stake in a good bank counter.

Maybank is the only counter that I could put all my money into it, hold it for many years and not lose sleep at night. But it is more fun to play-play with other counters, So I usually keep around 10-15 percent in MBB and play with the remainder.
