"We view the current valuation (trading below its 5-year mean) as unwarranted considering the robust consumption on the back of contained contrabands and pricing power to pass on higher costs without deterring its volume thanks to the relatively inelastic demand for beer.

"We continue to like the stock for its market leadership and attractive dividend yield of 5-6%," it said.

The research firm has a "buy" call on the stock and revised higher its target price to RM30.50 from RM29.20.

Meanwhile, other brewers and drinks makers are also experiencing a jump in share price as investors position themselves ahead of an increase in demand during the broadcast of Fifa World Cup 2022.

RHB Research said in a stock update it forecasts FY23 earnings growth of 10% for Heineken Malaysia as it believes elevated volume will be sustainable, coupled with price adjustments and normalisation in the effective tax rate of ETR post-Cukai Makmur.

Malaysian Breweries contribute 2.2Bil a year in tax. Alcohol is a large component of hotels, clubs and restaurants income which if banned would cause widespread closures loss of jobs. Oktoberfest returned to Penang after a two-year hiatus at the Malaysian-German Society (MGS).

Revellers from all walks of life let their hair down on the dance floor as Bavarian brass band Frankenrauber belted out “oompah” numbers.

The atmosphere was electric as the crowd raised their glasses and chanted “Ein Prosit der Gemutlich-keit”.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who attended the event, said, “The pandemic made us pause and reflect on the simple things that truly matter like friendships and camaraderie.”

He praised MGS for organising events which fostered closer ties between Malaysia and Germany.

Oktoberfest has been held annually at the MGS premises along Jalan Air Itam since 1972, except for 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

German Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Peter Blomeyer said the celebration originated in Bavaria and was now the world’s biggest “Volksfest” or people’s festival, attracting millions of people.

Also relishing the merriment were honorary consul of Germany in Penang Datuk Hans Brenner, MGS president Dr Wolfgang Mark, former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng and state tourism and creative economy committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.
