AA has the upper hand now given how MAS's upcoming capacity to be added moving forward has been slashed badly.

The European Union's aviation safety regulator earlier on Tuesday suspended all flights in the bloc by Boeing 737 MAX planes, joining a wave of suspensions of the aircraft across the globe.

"According to Boeing’s website, the Southeast Asian airlines using the Boeing 737 MAX 8 are Silk Air, Garuda Indonesia and Lion Air. "

"The possible shift of passengers to AirAsia due to the Boeing fleet absence could further sustain the group’s load factor to remain above 80%."

This can further increase AA market share, especially in Indonesia.

Looks like the Force is with AA for 2019. No amount of stones thrown in by doomsayers and CW issuers is going to stop the Force. Just brace yourself for a great year 2019. I believe in TF.

Chefsaham, no offence but you are delusional just like the other investors in this forum who are unrealistic with the real world

If MAS closes shop, aa would eat up the whole marketshare in Malaysia ?

Brother, MAS doesn't have to shiut down, they just to go sell of their business and tons of people especially the "Chinese" are willing to come in here and buy a loss making airline and do a turn around.

If such a thing happens and if they manage to do a turn around as how Proton is moving in a better direction now than c compared to previously, AA would be the one that would have to close shop.

Though no worries, even if AA closes shop, you guys would be buying TF's stories and Trusting him (as what Jaya says) which would result in you'll being bag holders.

Gd luck buddies

From AA 4Q report:

FY2019 - 55% hedged at $63.41
FY2020 - 40% hedged at $59.89
FY2021 - 5% hedged at $59.23

Compared to average price for FY2018 of $89, AA hedging strategy will definitely help lowering its fuel cost from 2019 onwards.

From HLIB research:

"The research firm said it remains doubtful of Malaysia Airlines owner Khazanah Nasional Bhd's willingness and ability to sustain the airline's continued losses.

"We believe it will be wise for the government to divest MAB (Malaysia Airlines) (instead of shutting down) or find a strategic partner, which will solve the issue of government's cash drain while reducing the overall impact on staff layoffs, as the takeover entity will still need a workforce to run MAS operation," it added.

HLIB Research said the options tabled by the government, including possibility of shutting down or divesting the national carrier, will result in the capacity cut for Malaysia Airlines, which may benefit AirAsia in gaining further market dominance."

Whether shut down or divestment will definitely result in capacity cut for MAS, so at least in the short them, AA will definitely be the direct benefactor.

Thank you.

Many factors are pointing towards a very profitable year for AA. Oil already hedge, ppl choosing to fly Airbus over Boeing and MAS not able to compete. Buy, buy before it is too late to grab below RM3.

Suddenly there will be a big shortage of planes with Boeing 737 grounded. Better ask airbus to quickly deliver more planes for AA, can resell or lease it out at big profits

Malaysia Airlines Bhd is not a market orientated airline. It is part of the long entrenched GLCs that are bleeding all along. But never mind as long as oil can command USD 50 per barrel minimum. the sooner it is closed, the better for Malaysia. Even foreign CEOs couldn't do much as it is run along a Malaysia model.

"An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on) These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

New Economic Policy, Ketuanan Melayu, BRIM, religion and politics are not separate and corruption will kill our nation and turn it into a FAILED STATE. "

Swatheng, your above illustration was exactly what China learned a bitter lesson from past experience! After China opened up, China allows private ownership and the free enterprise system to flourish. Socialism is only in name. But of course the centrally controlled economy continues to challenge the U.S.economy for the no.1 position and has caused Trump endless nightmares!
