I can say AA is one of the most TECH savy company in Malaysia. In this time...u hav to be very tech savy to be the winner. when Tun is talking about industrialised 4.0 AA is already at 5.0.

if AA ecosystem is complete..MAS n AA merger will only grow the ecosystem larger. Why MAS n Airasia airline will draw 2x blood into this ecosytem. So the problem is not with MAS ,is the ecosystem. Tony is not afraisd of merging with MAS. he is afraid of his ecosystem not complete. when completed.. he can merge with MAS with no problem. Y... c AA india,AA thailand, AA indo..AA philipine...so many also can merge..why cannot merge with MAS.

From 1 September 2019, all bookings for flights departing from Malaysia will be subject to a departure levy, in accordance with a directive from the Malaysian government.

For destinations within Asean, the departure levy is RM8 for economy class and RM50 for business class and business suites.

For those travelling beyond Asean, the departure levy is RM20 for economy class and RM150 for business class and business suites.

Commentary by AirAsia:

The year-on-year reduction in profit was due to several reasons including:
1. recognition of prior year losses of RM147mn from AirAsia India as we increased our capital contribution
2. the higher maintenance cost, which is impacted negatively due to more leased aircraft post the aircraft monetisation exercise, which I will explain later.
3. depreciation of ringgit and rupiah
4. anti competition watchdog fine of RM10mn
For this quarter, MFRS 16 did not negatively impact us.

Related to point two above, I would like to clarify that this increase in maintenance expense is purely due to the differences in accounting treatment between leased and owned aircraft. On a cash basis, there is no difference in maintenance costs regardless of whether we own our aircraft or lease them.

The accounting difference in the maintenance line relates to the major overhaul of engines. For owned aircraft, major overhaul is capitalised into the aircraft when it occurs as it prolongs the life of aircraft used in operations. This is then depreciated over the useful life of the asset. In other words, P&L impact is after the major overhaul. For leased aircraft, major overhaul will need to be expensed immediately (from day 1 receiving the plane). Maintenance provision which is charged to P&L is created to match against the “utilisation for earnings”, based on usage, typically over 20,000 cycles. Based on our utilisation, this would be ~8 years.

As a result, as we move from owning to leasing aircraft, we have to incur higher maintenance charges in the early years of leasing the aircraft, although on a cash flow basis, nothing has changed.

hi Shrobin, on the leasing of aircraft - maintenance of the aircraft and insurance (aircraft) is on Airasia not lessor?

But currently bnm opens up the license to both banking n non banking for application. Singapore gomen doesnt want bank sector to b complacent ,so shaking them up to be stronger n leaner with virtual bank.singapore gomen also wan to assist the virtual bank sector by creating level playing field.

Its still early on virtual bank license.very high chance get only..becoz its jus a word from tun. But big pay can start remittance n loan already by year end when it launch in spore n thailand.

Nobody is preventing banks from going into airline business..... so y must prevent AA from going into virtual banking? Anyway, banks are also allowed to go into virtual banking.... so, it is very fair. Anyone (banks or not) who has the money (capital) and tech expertise should be allowed to venture into virtual banking.... that's what fairness is all about (no unfair restrictions/monopoly by conventional banks).

---------------------------------------------------------
i3lurker: Air Asia should not be allowed to get a virtual bank license as it is very unfair to existing banks. A virtual bank license is worth a minimum RM500 million. Banks do not become airlines so airlines should not become banks too.

I think ppl only care about incoming dividend...

Of the total 334 aircraft as at end 2Q19, 5 were owned by MAA and 21 by TAA and the rest were leased. Management indicates that it would sell all the owned-aircraft. The disposal proceeds to TAA will be channelled to AAGB via special dividend. For MAA, it would keep the proceeds.
