@FlyAway you are right. If not bankruptcy, later still can buy in low, don't think price will shoot up fast.

AIRASIA Group Bhd (AAGB) may be looking to ground its airline business, which makes up about 75% of revenue, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic which has crippled air travel, sources tell FocusM on condition of anonymity.

AAGB founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said that the group’s focus “between now and June” was on deferring variable costs and minimising fixed costs. “That may mean we will ground the airline,” he told staff in a briefing today.

Opportunities, said Fernandes, would be found in the logistics and e-commerce sectors. “We will be much more tech-focused,” he said, adding that staff can look to moving into more technical jobs through the group’s in-house reskilling courses under the purview of AAGB president (Redbeat Ventures) Aireen Omar.

But “I’m going to be pushing OURSHOP and Teleport a lot,” added Fernandes. “Home delivery and logistics are going to grow tremendously and we have the right infrastructure. We see great opportunities in logistics and e-commerce.”

OURSHOP is AirAsia’s e-commerce marketplace while Teleport is the group’s logistics arm.

AAGB’s switch to tech marks the struggle aviation players are undergoing due to the coronavirus pandemic. Other local players such as Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) and Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd have also responded to the crisis by meting out a raft of measures from trimming flight routes to slashing salaries across the board.

On Sunday (March 15), airlines representatives from AAGB, Malindo, MAB and MAB subsidiary Firefly met with Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Aziz to discuss financial aid.

During the meeting, the group asked for a loan to help ease liquidity, said Fernandes.

AAGB’s shares opened 7.35% lower at 63 sen after the midday break on March 23.

Earlier, FocusM reported that AAGB may not be able to retain all of its staff. Fernandes said that he couldn’t “guarantee everyone’s jobs. But our No. 1 priority is to make sure we keep as many of you, if not all, in employment.”

Fernandes also mooted the possibility of an AAGB-AirAsia X Bhd merger but didn’t go into detail, as well as a possible 70% capacity cut in India. – March 23, 2020

Flybe's collapse could be 'first of many' airlines

(By Justin HarperBusiness reporter 06 March 2020 Business)

The failure of Europe's biggest regional airline Flybe could be the start of more casualties, analysts predict.

On Thursday, a global airline industry body warned the financial hit from coronavirus could reach $113bn (£87bn) this year.

The bleak prediction came on the same day UK-based Flybe went into administration.

Airline experts are forecasting more failures as passengers cancel flights.

Flybe's collapse "will likely be the first of many in 2020," said James Goodall, transport analyst at Redburn.

"We expect that the demand destruction caused by Covid-19 accelerated its demise and we believe further airline bankruptcies should be expected in the coming months."

Airlines could lose $63bn to $113bn in revenue from the slump in passenger traffic globally this year, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said on Thursday. Last month, it had predicted losses of $29bn.

Dow head nearly 800 points lower in midday Monday trade as NYC coronavirus infections surge nearly 40%

Published: March 23, 2020 at 11:38 a.m. ET
By Mark DeCambre
The Dow Jones Industrial Average on Monday headed to its lowest levels of the session, with investors attributing the deepening losses for the stock market to an update from New York on growing coronavirus cases. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said coronavirus cases across the state surged 38% overnight to 20,875. The Dow DJIA fell 785 points, or 4.4%, at 18,413, the S&P 500 SPX was off 3.9% at 2,215, while the Nasdaq Composite Index was off 2.6% at 6,701. Cuomo said he directed hospitals in the state to increase their capacity by 50%.

WHO director general says ‘pandemic is accelerating’
World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that the "pandemic is accelerating" and urged countries to take an aggressive approach.

"The pandemic is accelerating," the WHO chief told journalists in a virtual news briefing, saying "it took 67 days from the first reported case to reach the first 100,000 cases, 11 days for the second 100,000 cases and just four days for the third 100,000 cases."

But he said that "we are not helpless bystanders. We can change the trajectory of this pandemic."

The WHO chief said that he would address G20 world leaders to ask them to boost production of protective gear to safeguard health workers. He also warned that using untested medicines that are not support by the appropriate evidence could create "false hope".

Seriously guys. If tony were serious about the switch-to-tech and ground-airline things, you all should really sell all the AA stocks.

Venturing into an unknown business area poses high risk. So far AAGB’s tryout in Santan and BigPay are big mistakes, as Santan is just a overpriced airline food and BigPay are not making any good money. The only reason or the only backbone of AAGB now is its Airline business, which most of the malaysian see it as a necessity rather than a need. Thats the only reason to support any possibility of its rebound or bullish direction.

If tony indeed grounded airline business and venture into another unknown area, you all should sell the stock now, and see if the new business is doing good or having any potential growth. Do not gamble on this counter when the future of it is uncertain.

I personally have no confidence in this counter due to its management. I can no longer trust its management when it issue the 90cents dividend (which benefit the directors alot and suck out most money from AAGB) and its poor decision to venture into unknown business.

Dump the stock before its too late. Better get back some money then getting none when it enter PN17.

Replied to PVTHSD92:
Yes, for the situation now is not suitable to buy AA stock. It's just depend on your decision making. If you feel AA is no hope then better don't buy. But I saw the hope in the future. So I consider to grab some at the lower price now and hold, more further drop grab some more. I still will support AA since i think this company have potential to grow in the future. I just advise to grab some at lowest price in case you will regret next time.
