KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): Based on corporate announcements and news flow today, companies in focus on Tuesday (Oct 9) may include: UEM Sunrise Bhd, T7 Global Bhd, Reach Energy Bhd, MMC Corp Bhd, Gamuda Bhd, Diversified Gateway Solutions, MCE Holdings Bhd and IHH Healthcare Bhd.

UEM Sunrise Bhd said its chief operating officer for development Datuk Roslan Ibrahim is relinquishing his role following his transfer to UEM Group Bhd.

The transfer was under the UEM Talent Mobility Programme to take up strategic assignments.


T7 Global Bhd, which is mainly involved in engineering and oil & gas, is venturing into retail clothing.

It is setting up a new wholly-owned subsidiary, T7 Solutions Sdn Bhd, to engage in the retail sale of articles of clothing, articles of fur, clothing accessories, footwear and other retail sale of new goods in specialised stores.

Reach Energy Bhd drilled its first exploration well on its Emir-Oil asset in the Kariman field, Kazakhstan on Oct 6.

The well is expected to confirm the larger extent of the hydrocarbon resource being exploited in the Kariman structure.

The expected success of this exploration well would increase the group’s 2P (proved and probable) reserves by "a significant amount".

MMC Corp Bhd said MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd has not received any notice from Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) or the Government pertaining to the termination of the Mass Rapid Transit Line 2 (MRT2) underground contract.

MMC and Gamuda Bhd each hold a 50% stake in MMC Gamuda KVMRT.

Pahang Princess Tengku Datuk Aishah Sultan Ahmad Shah has been appointed as the non-executive chairman of Diversified Gateway Solutions Bhd, effective today.

Tengku Aishah is also the independent non-executive chairperson of Insas Bhd, Inari Amerton Bhd and Mieco Chipboard Bhd. In addition to that, she is an independent non-executive director of WZ Satu Bhd.

MCE Holdings Bhd has partnered with Chinese electronic parts manufacturer Suzhou Prachtig Electronic Material Co Ltd to set up a framework for the consultation and exchange of information and technology.

The initial stage of the cooperation would focus on the localisation of automotive plastic parts and value-added processes to develop and supply the products in Malaysia and the rest of Asean.

MCE said the group and Suzhou Prachtig intend to incorporate a joint venture company for the purposes of carrying on the business of designing, developing, manufacturing and supplying of the products.

IHH Healthcare Bhd has tightened control on Acibadem Saglik Yatirimlari Holding AS after the latter’s shareholders converted their shares into equities in the Malaysia-based healthcare group.

IHH’s stake in Acibadem has been bumped up to 90% from 60% after the share conversion.

Acibadem’s founder Mehmet Ali Aydinlar and his wife Hatice Seher Aydinla converted an approximate 15% stake in the Turkish healthcare group into 262.2 million IHH shares.

Subsequently, Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s wholly-owned unit, Bagan Lalang Ventures Sdn Bhd, also converted their 15% stake in Acibadem for 262.2 million IHH shares.

Keperluan adalah amat tinggi bagi pakar kejuruteraan dalam mengendali kerja-kerja menggali terowong di Lembah Klang yang padat penduduknya.

Jika kos dikurangkan dan spesifikasi dicantas, akan wujud risiko dan kesan bahaya. Siapa akan bertanggungjawab jika berlaku bencana nanti?

Gamuda-MMC merupakan satu-satunya syarikat di Malaysia memilik kepakaran dan telah terbukti melalui projek terowong SMART dan MRT 1 di mana projek MRT1 ini telah disempurnakan di bawah bajet dan lebih awal dari tempoh yang ditetapkan.

Jika ditender semula, kemungkinan besar ialah syarikat luar negara akan memenangi projek ini. Mereka mungkin membawa masuk lebih banyak pekerja asing berbanding dengan Gamuda-MMC yang banyak menggunakan tenaga kerja anak tempatan.

Pembukaan MRT2 yang dinanti-nantikan ini juga akan dilewatkan kerana proses tender semula bukan proses yang boleh selesai dengan cepat.

Pemegang Saham terbesar Gamuda ialah KWSP, dikuti oleh PNB (ASN/ASB), KWAP dan Tabung Haji.

PNB, KWSP, Tabung Haji, KWAP dan MMC pula adalah pemegang-pemegang saham antara yang terbesar dalam MMC Corp.

Saya dapati harga saham MMC jatuh 16% hari ini manakala harga saham Gamuda susut 25% pada hari ini sahaja. Harga saham Gamuda sudah jatuh lebih dari 50% berbanding dengan paras harganya sebelum PRU14.

Saya pasti ramai rakyat Malaysia akan sedih dengan keadaan ini di mana simpanan mereka di dalam KWSP, ASN, ASB, Tabung Haji dan sebagainya akan kehilangan berbilion-bilion Ringgit manakala berpuluh ribu rakyat sendiri kehilangan punca pendapatan.

Nampaknya janji PH sebelum PRU14 untuk mewujudkan 1 juta peluang pekerjaan dengan gaji minima RM2,500 sebulan untuk rakyat Malaysia telah salah ditulis. Mungkin, maksud mereka sebenar ialah mahu memusnahkan 1 juta pekerjaan?

Have been a strong supporter of LGE until this. Its a pretty dumb move to terminate now when the contractor has done nothing wrong other than performing well into their job with no major delays. LGE just dug a deep hole for himself on this 1. Massive delays and claims will ensue after this.

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 8): Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) will review the overall construction timeline for the MRT2 project, also known as the Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line, following Government’s decision to change the project structure.

MRT Corp chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said as the underground works for MRT2 are 39% completed currently, the termination and retendering process would be “relatively complex”.

“As a result of this, as well as the move from the project delivery partner (PDP) model to that of a turnkey contract for the elevated works, we believe that the overall construction timeline for the SSP Line will have to be reviewed,” he said in a statement today.

For MRT2 underground works, Shahril said MRT Corp will urgently work towards getting the new tender exercise off the ground which will be opened up to international companies.

Once a new underground works contractor is appointed, MRT Corp will ensure a smooth handover from MMC Gamuda KVMRT, he said adding: “As with all previous tenders carried out by MRT Corp, we will ensure that the retendering process is absolutely transparent.”

The preparation of new tender documents would setback at least 6 months as the cut-off point of the remaining works is yet to be determined. Calling for fresh tenderers to submit their bid would take at least another 3 months. Ding-ding dong dong, if all goes well, the entire process can be completed within a 1 years time. In this 1 years time, who will pay for the protection of site etc i wonder...hmmphh
