Why Pharma ordered another 19mil doses of vaccine Aug last year when the pandemic has eased and SOP was loosed. CEO should come out n explain why took this bold decision to spend 600mil.
Early in 2021, Pfizer Chief Financial Officer Frank D’Amelio warned on an earnings call that the company would “obviously” be going to “get more on price” after the “pandemic pricing environment.” More recently, the company has reaffirmed its plans for higher pricing levels in the private market.
In October, Pfizer global primary care and U.S. President Angela Lukin said during an investor call that the price would likely grow to about $110 to $130 per dose after the last government supply contract expires. She predicted the higher price would likely kick in during the first quarter of 2023.
So far, the government has been getting vaccine doses for under $30 on average.
Meanwhile, Moderna at its September R&D day pegged its commercial price (PDF) expectations between $82 and $100 per dose.

COVID vaccines to reach poorest countries in 2023 — despite recent pledges
COVID-19 vaccination rate in Africa 2023, by country Published by Mariam Saleh , Jan 6, 2023 As of January 4, 2023, Seychelles was the African country with the highest coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination rate, with around 205 doses administered per 100 individuals. Mauritius and Rwanda followed with 201 and 190 doses per 100 people, respectively. Ranking fourth, Morocco had a vaccination rate of approximately 148 doses per 100 people, registering the third-highest number of inoculations after Egypt and Nigeria. In South Africa, the most affected country on the continent, the vaccination rate instead reached around 64 per 100 population. How did Africa obtain the vaccines? Vaccines in Africa were obtained in different ways. African nations both purchased new doses and received them from other countries. At the beginning of the vaccination campaigns, donations came from all over the world, such as China, the United Arab Emirates, India, and Russia. The United Nations-led COVAX initiative provided Oxford/AstraZeneca and Pfizer/BioNTech doses to several African countries. Within this program, the continent received nearly 270 million doses as of January 2022. Moreover, the vaccination campaign has also been an occasion for intra-African solidarity. Senegal has, for instance, donated vaccines to the Gambia, while in January 2021, Algeria announced that it would have shared its supply with Tunisia. COVID-19 impact on the African economy The spread of COVID-19 negatively affected socio-economic growth in Africa, with the continent’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracting significantly in 2020. Specifically, Southern Africa experienced the sharpest decline, at minus seven percent, followed by Central Africa at minus 2.7 percent. Most of Africa’s key economic sectors were hit by the pandemic. The drop in global oil prices led to a crisis in the oil and gas sector. For instance, Nigeria, the continent’s leading oil-exporting country, witnessed a considerable decrease in crude oil trade in 2020. Moreover, the shrinking number of international tourist arrivals determined a loss of over 12 million jobs in Africa’s travel and tourism sector. Society has been substantially affected by COVID-19 on the poorest continent in the world, and the number of people living in extreme poverty was estimated to increase by around 30 million in 2020.

The seller said his grandfather kept the stone for 100 years. He said the stone was worth more than a million dollars. The buyer said Cut it open. Oh! Fancy junk stone! The buyer said It was worth 1 million before you cut it open. Your grandfather was trying to teach you a lesson on how everything should be viewed. The seller just dishonored his grandfather in a single cut.
there could potentially be a reversal in the impairment provision should Pharmaniaga be able to sell more of its existing Covid-19 stockpile. Currently the Group is engaging with various parties including the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and Ministry of Health (MoH) to sell its stockpile.
“The government, if it chooses to intervene, has a number of options: it could provide a significant cash infusion, guarantee or bailout for the GLC which will likely be in the range of RM700 (million) — RM900 million.
“It could provide a government guarantee which Pharmaniaga could rely on to facilitate financial arrangements or obtain credit from banks or other financial institutions.
“Or it could grant yet another decade-long concession arrangement which would guarantee a significant and predictable volume of business for Pharmaniaga for years to come,” he said.
