"Omicron is truly everywhere," Dr. Megan Ranney, a professor of emergency medicine at Brown University's School of Public Health, told CNN on Friday night. "What I am so worried about over the next month or so is that our economy is going to shut down, not because of policies from the federal government or from the state governments, but rather because so many of us are ill."

456 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, highest in more than 2 weeks


SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 456 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Saturday (Jan 1), including a high of 260 imported infections.

There was one fatality, taking the country's death toll from coronavirus complications to 829, according to the latest infection statistics on the Ministry of Health's (MOH) website.

White House COVID tsar Dr Anthony Fauci has suggested that Americans could be forced to test negative before exiting the newly-shortened virus isolation of five days, as the country braces itself for mass staff shortages.

Fauci made his remarks in an ABC News interview on Sunday, days after the CDC halved the isolation time for infected people from 10 days to five, for anyone who is asymptomatic or has not had a fever for 24 hours.

He said: 'You're right there has been some concern about why we don't ask people at that five-day period to get tested. That is something that is now under consideration.

'The CDC is very well aware that there has been some pushback about that. Looking at it again, there may be an option in that, that testing could be a part of that. And I think we're going to be hearing more about that in the next day or so from the CDC,’ Fauci said.

Fauci's latest remarks have seen him accused of flip-flopping on COVID yet again, with Americans given conflicting advice as cases surge and lines for tests lengthen. Travelers also endured another day of chaos at US airports, with 2,409 flights canceled across the country on Sunday afternoon, and another 4,758 delayed...

The nation broke records at least four times this week for its seven-day average of new daily Covid-19 cases, reporting an all-time high of more than 386,000 new daily infections Friday, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. The high case count is already causing disruptions in the country.

US shatters its average daily Covid-19 case record again. Experts describe coming weeks as a 'tidal wave' and 'blizzard'

In New York City, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is plagued with staffing issues and announced three subway lines -- the B, Z and W -- which service various parts of the boroughs, have been suspended.

"Like everyone in New York, we've been affected by the COVID surge. We're running as much train service as we can with the operators we have available," the MTA wrote on Twitter Thursday.
New York continues to break its own record, adding 85,476 reported Covid-19 cases, according to Saturday's briefing from New York Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Hospitalizations jumped to 8,451, up from around 8,000 in the report released Friday, according to the latest data. The state's seven-day positivity rate is 19.79%.
The number of one day case additions has increased 219% since Monday, when the state reported an addition of 26,737 cases.

Healthcare services -- exhausted after several surges of the virus and now stretched thin again by a growing number of Covid-19 patients -- are also already feeling impacts. The University of Maryland Capital Region Health this week joined a growing list of medical centers in the state to activate emergency protocols after a sharp rise in cases fueled staffing shortages and overwhelmed emergency departments.

"The current demand for care is depleting our available resources, including staffing," UM Capital Region Health said in a statement on Friday.

In Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine on Wednesday announced the deployment of about 1,250 National Guard members as hospitals struggle with staffing shortages.

"Get ready. We have to remember, in the next few weeks, there's going to be an unprecedented number of social disruptions," Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of Baylor University's National School of Tropical Medicine, told CNN.

Those include flight disruptions as well, he said, because of TSA agent and air crew absences.
Thousands of flights have already been canceled or delayed throughout the holiday season as staff and crew called out sick. On Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration said an "increased number" of its employees were testing positive for the virus, and "to maintain safety, traffic volume at some facilities could be reduced, which might result in delays during busy periods."

China reports 161 new COVID-19 cases

BEIJING: China reported 161 confirmed coronavirus cases for Jan 2, down from 191 a day earlier, the country's health authority said on Monday (Jan 3).

Of the new infections, 101 were locally transmitted, according to a statement by the National Health Commission, down from 131 a day earlier.

England and Wales reported 137,583 new COVID cases and 73 coronavirus-related deaths in the latest 24-hour period, according to official data.

The latest figures mean that more than 1.1 million people had a confirmed positive COVID test result between 27 December 2021 and 2 January 2022 - a 43% increase compared with the previous seven days, the government said.

Higher cases won't bring much profit to Gloves if the ASP is still on downtrend to pre Covid level. The distributors and customers yet to stock up their gloves inventory thus far and can be reflected in Top Glove recent results.

With the Omicron ragging and variants lurking due to inequality of vaccine distribution, the pandemic is lasting longer than expected after the first vaccine.

Look at the charts for all countries, the new cases and those active ones are ALL RECORD high.
Hospitalisation for covid cases are very high with many normal illness or surgery cases being put on hold.

Usage for gloves will continue to be elevated and from analysts reports, gov agencies has started buying and restocking. UK buying 6 billion pound worth of gloves as announced 2 weeks ago.
ASP will stablised by now or may also move up if more countries gov do the same due to more and more record cases. Gloves counters should be back in this extended pandemic environment.

Don't need to do fear mongering lah, the Omicron wave already over in South Africa, and even during the peak the hospitalisations rate is lower than previous variants. The hospital in South Africa did not ran out of capacity to do surgery.

Omicron provide strong immunity against covid so the more mutations that are like this to sooner covid will become just another seasonal flu
