Is TSH a great business?
How good is its management?
Is its stock deeply undervalued?

Comparing TSH and United Plantation can highlight the differences in the quality of these 2 companies plantation businesses and the qualities of their managements.

In April 2022, United Plantation was prices RM 16 per share and TSH was priced RM 1.78 per share (when recommended and promoted by our Singaporean friend).

It is better to buy a great company at fair price than a gruesome company at great price. (Quoting Buffett).
Many "investors" lost money because they became interested in a stock at a time when its business was at a temporary good period. (Quoting Benjamin Graham).

Our Singaporean friend promoted NETX at 2 sen per share, highlighting to everyone that it was cheap as it was going to 20 sen per share. Recalled he was so convicted, he sold 8 houses to buy into NETX. Not only did NETX not grow, it got decimated ?90%.

Our Singaporean friend does not seem to learn his mistakes, repeating these frequently. Thank you for allowing us to observe and learn from his mistakes.

Overview of the Plantation stocks

Only a few can be held long term (e.g. United Plantation, Kim Loong).
If you must play this sector, be very sure why you are investing into the stock. It is so undervalued that it is a cigar-but t investing situation (quoting Buffett).
However, you will be a lot richer if you stay with high quality growth companies which you can buy at fair price and hold for the long term in a concentrated portfolio. (This presumes you have the ability and the temperament to do so.)

Plantation is all hard work facing yearly increasing cost and profitability depend on FFB production and CPO market price.

There will not be any more new land opening for plantation and plantation companies have to increase productivity by better plantation management and replanting with high yield planting material.

The demand for palm oil will increase as population increase as food and oleochemical (home care, personal care, plastisizer and etc)

TSH last QTR core profit is 56 million after taking out One-off depreciation adjustment due to the completion of land disposal.
Normal operation profit margin already rose from 8 to 16% which was last seen in 2022.
Profit margin should further improve in coming few qtrs after Indonesia friendly policy changes.

Why compare only Tsh at phase 4 to Uplant at phase 7?

why not compare Bplant or Jtiasa to Uplant? All have reached phase 7

Jtiasa up by 100% and Bplant up by 369% while Uplant for the same time period up only 63%

So given time Tsh should chase up both Jtiasa in earning and Bplant in value as well

TSH normal operation profit is almost close to JPG.
JPG is 2.7 bill valuation but TSH is only 1.5 billion.
Its hard to believe TSH is overvalued now even if you think TSH is not good.

After disposing it plantation, TSH, it's monthly and quarterly CPO production volume was significant decrease QoQ, therefore, despite evelated CPO price, TSH upcoming EPS may report decrease earning QoQ. TSH will need to spend hundred of millions for expansion to plant the new land, this will take another 5 to 6 years to bear fruits, TSH's gearing may go up in coming years.

Only look at TSH in 5 to 6 years time later...
After listening to one of the Plantation expert in phillip group chat, who predictimg TSH will lagging for years and Jtiasa will be going up slowly to reflect the fair value RM1.6 to Rm2.2 coming yeas with 6 to 7 div yield. SO, i sold all my TSH and shifted to Jtiasa which is in the Best time to buy. GOOD and LUCKY,,,

see last qtr results of Tsh will know ..

1. Last qtr Tsh reported a 1.49 sen profit ..

however if you study the balance sheet

under Part A
Explanatory Notes

point 8

Off off depreciation adjustment
rm21.974 millions (due to cancelation of 3rd portion Bulugan land sale aborted)..

if not Tsh should have reported almost a nice 3 sen profit

now that these lands with productive palm oil (matured ) will add back to it's Ffb

plus no more one-off write back

plus Tsh used to pay Rm20 millions bank interest and now only Rm5 millions interest which is a great reduction

it's cash also get a positive interest which negates it's interest payment


all these cash positive move plus the most important of all

Bulugan Kipi land and Bongan Ikn Nusantara lands are going up in value everyday

just like Shenzhen land prices rise up to overtake Shanghai and Beijing Ikn Nusantara lands are rising steadily all the time

in Batu Kawan industrial lands now worth Rm2 millions to Rm30 millions per acre


in Kipi Bulugan Tsh own 13,338 acres land here still with low book value of Rm16,000 per acre

they call this the world biggest "greentech park"

and Indonesia banned export of Nickel (Ev battery ) and in some measure banned export of Bauxide, copper and other minerals

they want it's resources to be sold as finished or semi finished products

as such China, korea, Russia and others are making heavy investments into Indonesia

How can these lands be only Rm16,000 an acre when Batu Kawan worth up to Rm30 millions an acres?

How to be long term competitive against Kipi Tanah Kuning where they have the most valuable resources ?

Indonesia palm oil also more than double that of Malaysia

TSH margin improved by 100% even though lower production.
But volume only drop by 10%.
So even next quarter lower production doesnt mean it will have lower profit.
But JPG Jtisia Thplant all show dropping margin.
So increase volume of sales might not translate into higher profit.
Volume of sales is not only factor to profit.

Jtiasa hidden risk :


1.) Why Subur Tiasa and Rsawit ( under same RH group with Jtiasa ) are loss making in Timber and Plantation business?
Subur Tiasa even diversified business into pipe manufacturing n auto sector since May 2023 .😱

2.) Pulau Bruit land is identified suitable for Hybrid Rice cultivation on 2024 … announced by UKAS , in line with Sarawak government vision to support Sarawak rice demand by own cultivation ( currently 34 % ) . Even to rivalling Kedah which supply 40 % Rice demand in Malaysia , of course need financial supports from Federal government on this .


> An illustration: as the company said 3% planted area 69589 is > 18 years , averagely 14 years , ie : 2087 hectares going to be Sawah Padi out of the
Rented land 52,880 hectares ( 76 % of planted area) .

Note : Rented Land , Approximate age of building: 15 years


3.) Replanting cost for the rented land 52,880 x 30,000 , need Rm 1.6 Billion.

QR ended June 2024 : Reserve n Retained earnings is RM 0.5 Billion.

4.) 2nd Major ( 14 % ) keep disposed shares from August 2023 to July 2024 until left 6 % .

CGPP winners can sell RE electricity directly to end user / customer, but thru TNB power grid as TPA ( Third Party Access ) . CRESS details is expected to be announced in September 2024 , but the Mulling charges is announced oredi on 22/8/2024 .

800 MW CGPP winners even can sell RE electricity cross border.



D.) LSS5 2000MW Solar Project, EPCC value is estimated RM 7.2 Billion, tender RFP dateline is brought forward to 25/7/2024 from December 2024 ):

Jaks partner again with CPECC ( Vietnam 1200 MW Power Plant partner 70 % ) >>> Jaks 51% : CPECC 49% , tendered 200MW ….. Land : 1730 acres in Terengganu is leased from TDM .

Haha Jaks oredi got the MOAT by successfully diversified into Vietnam Power Plant 1200 MW , EPCC RM 8.7 billion on January 2021

And diversified into RE Solar …. LSS5 2000 MW EPCC RM 7.2 billion : Jaks submitted tender for 200 MW ( with intention up to limit 500 MW ) .

Lease land from TDM can be a 200 to 500 MW Solar farm depends on solar panels efficiency 12 % or 18 % .


Tender award is scheduled to be announced on November 2024 .

Only if Jaks succeed in LSS5 tender , shl start showing efficient scale in RE industry!
