An article from finance Twitter ..Dr Maszlee, famously known as the “Shoe Minister”, should be given a medal for his excellent job in shooting his own foot without fail. The “accidental” education minister gained fame after his proposal on July 20 last year to switch students’ white shoes to black. It’s a great mystery how Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad headhunted this exquisite talent from his PPBM party.

Less than a year after his black shoe fiasco, the education minister has done it again. In his rush to defend the discriminatory matriculation programme’s special preference for Bumiputera (son of the soil) students, he had argued that if the critics did not want the matriculation quota system, then job opportunities should not be denied to Bumiputera because they do not speak Chinese.

Maszlee’s argument was not even a justification, but sounded like a threat. In fact, it was an extortion or blackmail – if the people wanted to get rid of the discrimination in the matriculation system, then Bumiputera should be given jobs in the private sector, even if most of those half-baked graduates could not speak proper English, let alone proficiency in Mandarin.

qqq3 keep repeat 77% and 23% in his every comments. what he didn't tell u that 23% only stands for msian chinese. not included indian, sabah and sarawak indigenous group. malay only stand at slightly more than 50% instead of 77% as claimed. the total percentage of bumiputera (malay + sabah sarwak indigenous) is just 62% instead of 77%. it doesn't explain the rationale for the 90:10 rule for matriculation.
on top of that, how can we be sure that in the 90% seat for bumiputera are not solely given to malays instead of malay + sabah & sarawak indigenous people. malay stands at 50% while sabah sarawak indigenous stand at 11.8% out of malaysia population. thus for every 5 malays in matrix, we need to have 1 sabah & sarawak indigenous student. but in reality, the ratio for sabah & sarawak students are very less compared with malays.

matriculation is back door for bumis to get into universities, its an accelerated program.

see...the government says so also.

some of these matric students eventually gets PhD from Ivy Leagues too....so how?

it goes to show.....given an opportunity, magic happens.

there will be disappointments too but enough good endings to justify the program.

Dear all,
https://www.thestar.com.my/opinion/columnists/so-aunty-so-what/2019/05/22/in-need-of-courageous-leadership/

I know of so many smart, talented and capable Malays who surely did not need any back door to continue their studies and get good jobs.

But because of this sneak-in mechanism just for the sake of allowing less qualified students through for the sake of numbers and political expediency, even top-notch Malays will always have to contend with the suspicion that they didn’t do it on their own merit. How long more must they suffer such an indignity?

In any multiracial nation, education is a vital unifying factor, but for too long, ours has become divisive because of the tampering by self-serving politicians who separate our children based on religion and language.

That’s why right-thinking Malay¬sians desperately want an education system that would no longer divide, discriminate, deny, disillusion and even damage our most precious assets: our children’s hearts and minds.

Granted, to achieve this would take time but as Dr Ahmad Farouk said, what is needed for this to happen is a courageous education minister who believes in meritocracy, inclusiveness and pluralism. I don’t see that in Maszlee.
Yes, time to go, Bro!

Thank you.

The prefrontal cortex is traditionally thought to be involved in executive control, or willful behavior, as well as decision-making. So, the researchers hypothesize, it would make sense that a practice that centers on relinquishing control would result in decreased activity in this brain area.

Different religions activate brain regions differently.

If Mahathir had not educated thousands and thousands of Malays in his first term, u think Malaysia today can be so peaceful and prosperous meh?

How about a failed state like South Africa or Idi Amin of Uganda??

Being a liberal man, I have no problems with showing some compassion, .............How about a sustainable development model? One in which there is a long term plan to uplift the Malays vis a vas the other races?

The Chinese? The Chinese are doing fine....And as long as the government liberalise education, let customers decide, allow private Universities to thrive...the future is bright for the Chinese.

Anyway, the Chinese have many strengths and can overcome all adversities as long as there is peace.

Very true......young Msia Baru with 'just awaken' Bornean counterparts........ need new narratives that foster long term unity, harmony and prosperity

.....new write ups in the school national HISTORY textbook :

https://m.malaysiakini.com/letters/476973

When merdeka was considered the Brits realised that if the immigrants left the administration, the money making plantations, the tin mines, the transport system and everything else would collapse. The country would become bankrupt. So the country had to give citizenship and hope this would encourage them to stay. The malays had to accept this to survive. This is the basis of the social contract. It is the Malays who have to be grateful.

Whenever there is too much polarisation, a democracy will fall apart.

A lot of wisdom in Nelson Mandela’s statement and how true it is in today’s world:

*When South Africa got independence from white rulers in 1990 under the leadership of Nelson Mandela, his supporters, mainly African Tribes, demanded Reservations in education sector, govt sector & in private sector!*

*Nelson Mandela replied that he will not allow any type of Reservations in any sector i.e. in education sector, in govt sector & in private sector at any cost, because Reservations & the products of Reservations will destroy the whole nation!*

*The famous statement of Nelson Mandela is displayed at the entrance of the University of South Africa thus:*

*"Destroying any nation does not require the use of atomic bombs or the use of long range missiles. _It only requires lowering the quality of education and allowing cheating in the examinations by the students._"*

*Patients die at the hands of such quack doctors.*

*Buildings collapse at the hands of such dubious engineers.*

*Money is lost in the hands of such bankers, economists & accountants.*

*Humanity dies at the hands of such pseudo religious scholars.*

*Justice is lost at the hands of such corrupt judges...*

*"The collapse of education is the collapse of a nation."*...
