muscle you mean you the one losing job? Bank can take possession of the borrower's house and sell it off worse come to worse. Of course bank(take precaution) won't simply borrow to anybody who cannot pay back.

Housing loan is just 1 sector. CIMB could also get govn projects financing since Nazir Razak is brother of our PM Najib eg HSR, MRT. LRT, Pan Borneo Highways etc.

Securities dealings also one source of income for banks since I see so many i3 forumers trade daily. Bank is biggest winner from their trades.

@muscle, in lehman brothers case, their bankruptcy is due to rampant indiscriminate lending to sub-prime borrowers (read: people with no income/more housing loans they can afford). In most cases, the borrower's income cannot even cover all the mortgages they sign up for. This is certainly not the case now in Malaysia. If you read the BNM statistics for Jun'16, Malaysian banks have rejected ~70% loan applications. There is definitely no rampant lending here. Prior to the 2008 financial crisis, the US banks gave out loans like crazy because they can then sell the loans as CDOs to investors. Since they are not ultimately not responsible for the loans, why not lend out as much as possible.

The dividend in the form of CIMB Niaga shares is worth about RM 0.06, that's why open @ 4.34.
Either you accept CIMB's offer to convert to cash at about 40-50% discount, or
You ask your broker to sell on your behalf (which is not worth it unless you have a lot of CIMB shares due to the brokerage fees), or
Transfer the CIMB Niaga shares to your IDX account if you have one.

Any other bright ideas?

This is big problem & totally absurd ; CIMb should give options to minority shareholders whether to accept CASH or CIMB Niaga foreign stock which may create unfair selling price to those receiving odd lots ; NOT by default !!

It's 1000/6.39=156.49. Hence, u get 156 units of Bank Niaga. U should create one, it's free anyway@HLe. I checked with HLe, they will allow those with foreign account to keep the Indonesia shares, but they haven't confirm if they will charge custody fees or not. Else, u can go for cash option

IMHO, I think better to take share option cos CIMB is going to continue giving Bank Niaga share dividend in the future since they need to reduce to 75% holding to comply with Indonesia ruling...

Ktteh: That's probably after minus all the transaction, brokerage and forex fees and charges. Like what they say, we minority shareholders always get the short end of the stick. What u could probably do is go to the next AGM and voice out. I think they could provide a better conversion rate for the cash option rather than fixing it such a low rate. Somebody is probably making some good money out of this...

My Maybank remieser told me I have regional trading account with them,so in future, i am entitled for any foreign shares, it will be credited to my regional trading account. (But actually, I have never opened any foreigned account, just I think use Maybank as trustee, I had just clicked the regional trading ICON in MIB website just to view it. It works. )
