Agreed that their front desk services & e banking need to improve further. However, still a good counter to hold because of its stability.

Public bank has 90% business in Malaysia. Is there any chance that the government stop granting banking license to the successor, after the founder pass away? then force acquire it.

Singapore reit is also hopeless. Many empty office and warehouse waiting for tenants, as MNC start shifting out to Malaysia and India

SHQuah: It is obvious pbb price was nudged up to a non-sustainable high price of 25 or put it another way the price had gone up too high too fast. It sort of reached a ceiling and stuck there. If it cannot rise further, the likelihood is it may fall. When enough people form this view, then keen sellers would outnumber keen buyers and the price is said to correct downwards to a more reasonable level. Price at anytime is a perceived price by market participants ie by crowd psychology. You need personal judgement as to whether it is high and may fall or low and may rise. To judge, should compare its price with other financial stocks.

SHQuah: PBB or MBB? An interesting question. To decide you need to guess the net earnings and dividends of each of these banks say over the next five years. At current prices, on recent past results, pbb pays 3% dy whilst mbb pays 6% dy. This means for pbb you need to get an annual earnings growth of 3% so hopefully there will be a corresponding price rise of 3% ie a capital gain of 3% so you get a total investment return of 6% ie similar to mbb's 6% return and assuming mbb has no earnings growth. You then tabulate your computations for each of these banks year by year for a period of five years. This is a simplistic way to guide you along for a start and you can refine and revise your estimates upon quarterly reports from these banks. A useful source of information to guide you in your estimates are the reports from various analysts as they too revise their analysis subject to varying business conditions. Based on your estimates, you may decide say to place an equal bet on each of these banks or maybe a 70% bet on one bank and 30% on the other. No one can see the future, so it is a level playing field.

The risk for PBB is that if Teh retires, not sure if Bank negara will grant banking license to his successor. If not, probably PBB has to be sold to another bank. Then PBB's result will be badly affected.

not to person by person

ANOTHER STRONG REASON WHY CALVIN WON'T BUY UNPROVEN NEW IPO STOCKS IS BECAUSE CALVIN FOLLOWS HOW PUBLIC BANK OR HONG LEONG BANK GIVE OUT LOANS

NO. 1

BANKS WILL ONLY GIVE OUT LOANS FOR THOSE WITH PROOF OF ACTUAL INCOME
3 MONTHS SALARY PAY SLIP FROM EMPLOYERS OFFICIAL LETTER

THIS SHOWS THAT THE BORROWERS CAN PAY IF HE BORROWS. THE LOAN PAYMENT AMOUNT IS ABOUT 1/3 OF HIS INCOME OR SALARY

NO. 2

IF HE DOES NOT QUALIFY THEN HE MUST SHOW IF HE HAS ASSET BACKING

A) CASH IN BANK FD (THIS IS THE BEST AS CO-LATERAL) IF CUSTOMER CANNOT PAY THEN SEIZE THE FD

B) GOLD OR GOLD CERTIFICATE DEPOSITED WITH THE BANK

C) ASSETS LIKE LANDS, HOUSES, SHOPS OR FACTORIES PLEDGED AS SECURITY FOR BORROWING OR OD (OVERDRAFT).

NO. 3 IS USUALLY REJECTED

PROMISE OF GREAT FUTURE INCOME FROM ENTERPRIZE OR VENTURE

TOO RISKY AS BANKS CANNOT TRUST FUTURE EARNINGS ALONE

APPLY THIS TO SHARES

1) CAN BUY SHARES LIKE TA, ASB & TALAMT BECAUSE OF HIGH NET CASH & ASSET BACKING

2) CAN BUY STOCKS WITH CONSISTENT EARNINGS WITH DIVIDENDS

CANNOT BUY IPO SHARES AS IT FAILED NO. 1 & MO. 2

FOR THIS REASON CALVIN WILL NOT BUY GREATEC OR ANY SHARES AT IPO

yes la

banking license is to bank , not to person

as PUBLIC BANK is big bank in Msia , the new chairman need report (let know, inform ) for Bank Negara

Bank Negara role is to ensure all bank in Msia is in good condition, properly manage and in order

bank negara dont want after Teh Hong Piow retire have a not qualify person to be chairman

if Public Bank bankrupt under wrong chairman leadership, then will big effect to Msia banking system and economy

Bank negara can just advise, give instruction but the final decision will be on Public Bank largest shareholders to decide who will be the next Public Bank next chairman

bank negara is oversight board for all bank in Msia

"Undi_PAS Are you sure no voters don't like no need to pay bank loan like PH promised they can abolish toll"

Only voters without any ethics and honesty like it, just like majority of "priviliged" parasites in this country.

Gold price recouped losses and hit one-week high after Fed chairman Jerome Powell gave strong signals of an impending cut in benchmark interest rate later this month. Gold price skyrocketed in June after remaining range bound in the first five months of this year. The rally was primarily driven by three macro factors -- a dovish Fed and other major central banks, trade-related conflict across the world and fears of a global economic slowdown.

Retailers see risk of lower sales as disruption endures

Hong Kong is beginning to reckon with the economic cost of ongoing protests against the government’s extradition bill, as the disruption risks driving away local shoppers and deterring tourists from mainland China.

The Hong Kong Retail Management Association said Tuesday that “most members” reported a single-to-double-digit drop in average sales revenue between June and the first week of July, when multiple demonstrations converging on major office and retail districts took place.

The threat to Hong Kong’s vital retail sector will hit its economy at a time when it is already slowing. Retail sales data for June is due for release on August 1, with the value of goods sold having contracted every month since February.

The “industry is worried that these events will damage Hong Kong’s international image as a safe city, a culinary capital, and a shopping heaven,” the association said in a statement.

HONG KONG: Hong Kong on Monday (Jul 29) bore the scars of another night of violent protests with hard hats, umbrellas and water bottles littering some central streets, as Beijing was set to make an announcement on the Asian financial centre's worst crisis since 1997.

In a rare move, the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office in Beijing, which has Cabinet-level authority over the former British colony, is due to hold a press conference at 3pm about the unrest gripping the former British colony.

That follows another weekend of clashes between protesters and police, who again fired rubber bullets and tear gas as the demonstrations grow increasingly violent.
