Public Bank Bhd founder and chairman emeritus Tan Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow passed away on Monday (Dec 12) morning at the age of 92.

Maybe.

But it also maybe THP knew his time is up so he still generous in giving dividend in the past years since money can't be brought to the next world (although still not at market expectations).

New replacement still have a long road to go so could be less generous and dividend could remain stagnant. Hope I'm wrong.

What new replacement? THP has no position in the running of PBB, only that he held 21.64% of PBB.

The question now is how will his stake in PBB be divided/broken up since the law allows only 5% shareholding by an individual.

His holding of 21% was based on the 'grandfather' law allowing him to keep his shares but not allowed to accumulate anymore.

We will really miss him as he grew PBB.

this is a bank leh, under BNM. if am not mistaken, his children are singaporeans... THP last time also Singaporean. where can simply give ceo to anyone, need approval one. as long as management the same, should be fine. it is the culture, like apple, steve jobs gone, apple still ok.

CGS-CIMB Research has an
“add” call on Public Bank.

“We maintain our earnings per share forecasts for financial years of 2022 to 2024 and dividend discount model-based target price of
RM5.20 for Public Bank,” it said.

The research house noted that Public Bank has one of the
lowest credit costs among its peers.
It also said that Public Bank may see a potential write-back in management overlay.

Fund manager Danny Wong told StarBiz that Public Bank’s fundamentals remain
stable, going forward.

Wong, who is the CEO of Areca Capital, said that Teh has left
a credible line-up of top management to steer the banking group even without his presence.

“Public Bank is a very retail bank and
it has a loyal customer base.
This would provide support to its business ahead,” he said.

CGS-CIMB said the late Teh was the largest shareholder of Public Bank with a 23.41% stake (or 4.54 billion shares) as at March 14, 2022.

“Based on the closing price of RM4.40 for PBB on Dec 12, Teh’s stake carries a total value of RM20 billion.

According to Section 92 of Financial Services Act, individuals are prohibited from owning more than 10% stake in a financial institution unless they already held the stake before June 30, 2013.

THP has one son and 3 daughters.

Furthermore, their inheritance can be in the form of a trust that is structured to abide by the relevant laws; SEC, MoF & BNM.
