If TM is for long term, take the DRS. At RM 5.38, its cheap. After all you can sell it back in the open market later.

I say Nicholas, only the dividend can be DRS. If you got 1000 shares, you can only convert your RM163 dividend into new TM shares, ie you get 30 shares and not 1000 shares. So you will have 1030 shares after DRS.

Hi , all the Sifu:-- I am new hand and need advise.
Now that TM is going to give dividend (forget about the DRS for the discussion sake)
Normally share price will go up until dividend Ex date, and thereafter the price will drop for some time.
It is good to sell it before the ex date ( not taking the dividend) , OR it it better to keep to earn dividend ( but end up with lower price )
i am not good in counting beans. will the sifu please enlighten?

If you are a trader for short term gain, sell. If you are a long term investor and think TM will be higher in future, keep it.

This share is good for long term.. I will opt for the DRS , instead of taking the dividend in cash. It's a better option, I dont know about you all. This share has given me more than 100% returns if I calculate the amount of dividend/capital repayment and the share price increase over the years. Certainly for long term..

This DRS is 'tricky' .... attractive, it seems, as there's a discount & shareholders cld hv more shares @ $5.38 from the 0.163 dividends .... but what wld happen to the share price after ex-date? Now, it ranges around 6.30 - 6.50. Will it even maintain @ 6.00 after obtaining the new shares @ 5.38??? If so, the share price wld hv soared much higher (probably > 7.00) immediately after the DRS declaration. But it wasn't so ....... if ON, one must be really prepared to keep this stock for very long term (& sacrifice on other opportunities) .... good luck: )

breeder, as in case of Maybank, its price (X price, mind you) is now exactly RM1 above its DRP/DRS while the exercise is going on right now. The attraction is taking the shares at a discount and selling it back after its listing. There is no need to keep the shares for long. Anyone who went in last one month would have profited and can sell.

jazz, how many shares do you have that makes it so difficult to decide?
