KUALA LUMPUR (July 23): AirAsia Group Bhd’s passenger volume for its consolidated aircraft operating certificate (AOC), comprising Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, rose 18% to 12.84 million in the second quarter of this year (2Q19), from 10.88 million a year earlier.
The number of passengers carried as a percentage of capacity rose 19% to 15.09 million, from 12.72 million, the low-cost carrier said in a statement.
The load factor was 85% compared with 86% in 2Q18, while the available seat kilometres (ASK) grew 17% year-on- year (y-o-y), as the group continued to expand its network through strategic addition of new routes and increased frequencies to domestic and international destinations.
In Malaysia, AirAsia’s capacity grew 13% y-o-y to 10.41 million in 2Q19, resulting in a 11% increase to 8.8 million passengers carried in the quarter.
“The growth rate exceeded that of the industry average, as AirAsia Malaysia continued to increase its market dominance, while load factor remained strong at 84%,” AirAsia said.
All AirAsia ASEAN airlines expected to be profitable in 2019 March 1, 2019
AirAsia Group outlined (27-Feb-2019) its strategy for 2019 as follows:
The group is confident that all AirAsia carriers in ASEAN will be profitable; The carrier reported a “strong trend” in passenger traffic and load factor in 1Q2019 and is targeting group load factor of 85% for FY2019:
Malaysia AirAsia: 86%; Indonesia AirAsia: 85%; Philippines AirAsia: 91%; Thai AirAsia: 90%; AirAsia India: 87%;
Fuel: .....
52% of Brent hedged at USD63.41 per barrel for FY2019; If Brent increases to USD80 per barrel, the unhedged portion of fuel costs could increase by MYR368 million (USD90.3 million); 40% hedged at USD59.89 per barrel for FY2020 and 4% at USD59.23 per barrel for FY2021;
Ancillary revenue: .................
RedCargo generated MYR206 million (USD50.6 million) in FY2018 and will “double up” in FY2019 as the carrier seeks to support e-commerce initiatives in ASEAN; The carrier aims to up sell ancillaries and ‘Ourshop’ by all six airlines through data, machine learning and artificial intelligence;
1) i have a feeling price of FUEL will be down permanently...North pacific ocean mind boggling distance was the major fuel consumer for china - U.S transportations...it will be down permanently due to global trade war...
(In fact, Trade war will encourage all business management to insist on trips via budget airlines compared to premiums...for cost savings..for survival of their business. Trade war will benefit budget airlines)
(2) the above FUEL COST is the single largest factor that would ensure you keep getting Dividends from this stock...
forget about the share Price...
whatever tax effects will eventually be transferred to passengers...this cost obviously not going to dampen the rise in passengers (18%) we are seeing
3.2% return at FD is not that attractive
especially when you know oil price is going to collapse
