If you're are get caught by covid-19 when we are working, you have no choice as you are earning a living. If you get caught when you're travelling for funs and sight-seeing, you think you worth it by paying and get infected ?
Bear in mind that Covid-19 is a very damaging epidermic to your body immune system even you are recovered from it.
Stop going out unnecessary then you will be safe. This is not the time to prove your bravery and guts !
That is why European and UK are locking up their red epidermic zone.

TF is desperate and losy now. Think AA is tough to survive if normal air travel not resumed in next 1 year time. Image lne get infected covid 19 in foreign countries. Vacines takes 6 to 12 month to be safe to use. Even ok, alao worry not safe to travel overseas.

the cheapest option for the gov is to wait for MAS AA and Malindo to go into liquidation, a new flag carrier can be created from the ashes of these airline with a low cost base. there would be a large amount of plane capacity and landing slot available after covid that would benefit a new airline to expand fast.

with so much debt, even if AA managed to pull through, they will spend so many years paying off the debt. The best solution is to simply close it down and reopen a new airline.

It was covid-19 that hurt AA , basically AA has a good performance record. The management is good and innovative.
After the vaccine is available, if the airlines business is fast expanding why need to reopen a new airlines and setting up a new airline ? Setting up a new airlines is not as simple as what you thought. And why not making used of the existing one by just pumping money into it.

Agree with bahai and sampooler. Just ignore those naysayers as they thought closing down and reopen an airline company back is as easy as other SME industry

A new airline will start with a clean slate without being saddle with huge debt like the current airlines. Alot of management and technical staff are available to hire by the new airline to launch their service. Launching a new airline now also will not face the problem airlines use to have when trying to expand when it comes to supply of planes and limited landing slots

"The future remains highly uncertain and it is clear that recovery is slow, " Cathay said in a statement, citing the International Air Transport Association's expectation it will take until 2024 for passenger traffic to recover to pre-COVID-levels.

SYDNEY: Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd said on Wednesday it would cut 5,900 jobs and end its regional Cathay Dragon brand as it grapples with a plunge in demand from the coronavirus pandemic.

The restructuring will cost HK$2.2 billion ($283.9 million) and the airline will also seek changes in conditions in its contracts with cabin crew and pilots, it told the stock exchange.

Overall, it will cut 8,500 positions, or 24% of its normal headcount, but that includes 2,600 roles currently unfilled due to cost reduction initiatives, Cathay said.

"The future remains highly uncertain and it is clear that recovery is slow," Cathay said in a statement, citing the International Air Transport Association's expectation it will take until 2024 for passenger traffic to recover to pre-COVID-levels.

The airline, which has stored around 40% of its fleet outside Hong Kong, said on Monday it planned to operate less than 50% of its pre-pandemic capacity in 2021.

After receiving a $5 billion rescue package led by the Hong Kong government in June, it had been conducting a strategic review that analysts expected would result in major job losses because it has been bleeding HK$1.5 billion to HK$2 billion of cash a month.

The restructuring will stem the cash burn by HK$500 million a month in 2021, the airline said.

"國泰重組港龍停航 裁8500職位"
Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd was cursed by the Beijing government as they were involved in anti-Beijing airport violence last year. Cathay Pacific Airways is nobody child now.
They are so stupid enough to get involved in local politics. They had to paid the price anyway !!
They just can not understand a simple business principle !
" Private business can not commit in local politics but politics can involved in business affairs ."

RM300mil loan for AirAsia?

By Ayisy Yusof - October 22, 2020 @ 11:33am
AirAsia Group Bhd is believed to have secured a RM300 million loan from Sabah Development Bank Bhd (SDB) to keep it afloat amid the Covid-19 pandemic.NSTP/EMAIL.
AirAsia Group Bhd is believed to have secured a RM300 million loan from Sabah Development Bank Bhd (SDB) to keep it afloat amid the Covid-19 pandemic.NSTP/EMAIL.
KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Group Bhd is believed to have secured a RM300 million loan from Sabah Development Bank Bhd (SDB) to keep it afloat amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Market observers who spoke on condition of anonymity said the low-cost carrier (LCC) would likely use the loan to finance its local operations including paying employees salaries and aircraft leasing.

AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Riad Asmat confirmed that a loan had been approved and disbursed, but did not disclose specifics including the lender and amount involved.

"This loan is part of the capital raising exercise by AirAsia group, which is moving in the right direction and we are pleased with the progress," he said when contacted by the New Straits Times (NST).

AirAsia secures RM1bil loan from MoF?
Special bank for housing loans below RM300,000 to be established
Market observers said the loan would likely last up to two months as substantial financial relief would be needed to sustain AirAsia's operations over the long-term if the Covid-19 continues to rage.

"Although it won't last very long, the loan would be a helpful lifeline. AirAsia is hugely important to Sabah for bringing in tourists. Therefore, SDB would be very interested in helping AirAsia to survive," a source told the NST.

SDB serves as the Sabah government's financial intermediary.

It also provides advisory services to the state government as well as its agencies with project financing and investment matters, while managing the surplus funds and its related agencies.

Since the emergence of Covid-19 in early 2020, demand for air travel has been hampered and exacerbated by international borders closures. This has taken a heavy toll on most airlines' operations globally.

Previously, it was reported that AirAsia had secured a RM1 billion loan from the government.

The RM1 billion would be 80 per cent guaranteed by the Finance Ministry and disbursed by a group of local banks under the government's RM50 billion Danajamin Prihatin Guarantee Scheme, according to Nikkei Asia, quoting sources from the ministry and the airline.

However, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) had on October 13 denied approving such loan.

"We would like to clarify that it has not approved any government financing or guarantee to any airline," an MoF spokesperson said then.

Another source said the ministry might have denied approving the loan but that it did not say it would not help AirAsia.

"They did not say they won't help the airline, but rather they haven't helped yet," he said.

The downturn in air travel caused by the pandemic has prompted AirAsia and its affiliates to seek funding, restructure or cease operations.

The airline reportedly said it would embark on another retrenchment involving 400 employees in all divisions next month.

AirAsia founder and group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the company had reduced more than 10 per cent of its 24,000 workforces.

It was reported that the airline had laid off over 2,400 employees since Malaysia's borders were closed on March 18 this year.

The last round of retrenchment involving cabin crew and pilots ended in early October.

AirAsia had also planned to downsize its fleet of aircraft and was awaiting to return some of its aircraft to its lessors.

The airline was also said to be in discussion with Airbus to revisit its aircraft orders involving A320 and A321 aircraft as well wide-body A330.

It had planned to reduce its fleet to 180 aircraft by end-2021 from the current 245.
