To be honest... if the company is already making a bad business deal... i point holding. Look at felda.

Easy to gauge. Now oil n gas rebound. N most counters rebound. Those that did not rebound but still going down...u must be pretty damn sure it's not going to be well. Imagine what happen if oil drop below usd55 per barrel. Always create a sell strategy which include cut loss n take profit.
With this corporate direction.. it's a huge signal

UMW Oil & Gas Corp Berhad provides services to the oil and gas industry. The Company offers drilling operations, oilfield services, pipe manufacturing and oilfield products.PETRONAS Carigali, the upstream arm of Malaysia's national oil company Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), holds an option under the two year contract to extend the deal by one year, UMW O&G said in a filing with local stock exchange Bursa Malaysia. The contract value was however not revealed.

UMW Offshore Drilling is a unit of UMW Malaysian Ventures Sdn Bhd, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UMW O&G.

Upon completion of the consolidation exercise, UMW-OG will embark on a recapitalisation exercise via a rights issue of approximately RM1.8bil. To this end, Ekuinas has indicated its support for the recapitalisation plan, up to RM550mil, comprising its entitlement and application of excess rights shares,” it said.

UMW-OG will undertake a mandatory take-over offer for all the remaining Icon shares at a consideration of 50 sen a share to be satisfied either via cash or issuance of new UMW-OG shares at 80 a share.

“UMW-OG intends to secure full acceptance to reap the benefits of consolidation and does not intend to maintain the listing status of Icon,” it said.

if so simple why the rights issue?
if so simple why the merger?

I think there is value in the assets of UMWOG, Icon and Equinas.

When you buy assets at the bottom of an industry decline...the assets will turn to jewels when the industry recovers.

CIMB analyst is wrong.The consolidation will make them only stronger with the synergy effect.
PETRONAS will only deal with them as a one stop comglomorate.Hopefully no other competitors.
