AstraZeneca vaccine details published in Lancet, but data suggests need for more trials
LONDON — Scientists at AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford on Tuesday became the first vaccine developers to publish their full data in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, confirming earlier claims that the vaccine is 70 percent effective overall.
Dr Noor Hisham rubbishes report claiming Chinese vaccines unsafe Keertan Ayamany 11 hrs ago
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 ― Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today debunked new that vaccines made in China are unsafe to use, saying that the East Asian nation has a successful track record in manufacturing vaccines for diseases other than Covid-19.
Dr Noor Hisham was responding to a question by a journalist, who highlighted a news article that has been making the rounds over the past few days, alleging that vaccines manufactured in China are not safe
“The news is not true at all. If we see, China has come out with prequalified vaccines for the World Health Organisation (WHO), for example, vaccines for influenza, polio, hepatitis A, and japanese encephalitis.
“So they have experience with manufacturing vaccines,” he said during a press conference today.
He said that the issue now was the Covid-19 vaccine is new, which requires testing in three phases.
He highlighted that Malaysia has yet to receive any report on the third phase of testing for any of the Covid-19 vaccines developed globally.
Dr Noor Hisham previously said on December 4 that the Health Ministry will conduct its own third phase of clinical trials on a vaccine that is developed by the Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing, China.
This decision was made after phases one and two of clinical trials in China showed that the vaccine is safe to use and garnered good results.
PETALING JAYA: Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Covid-19 vaccine need not be halal in order to be administered in Malaysia, following concerns raised by a few quarters over the matter.
Speaking to The Straits Times, Noor Hisham however, said if the makers of the vaccine could obtain halal certification, it “would be better”.
Totally agree with dr Noor hisham on this “ “The news is not true at all. If we see, China has come out with prequalified vaccines for the World Health Organisation (WHO), for example, vaccines for influenza, polio, hepatitis A, and japanese encephalitis.
“So they have experience with manufacturing vaccines,” he said during a press conference today. ”
Sinopharm has produced who prequalified vaccines before
Some people had this entrenched mentality Chinese are backward. But until they gone there and see for themselves, they have no idea what they are talking about.
Yes, agreed. We need to see the actual clinical data to confirm this. This is because Pfizer (94%), Moderna (95%) and AstraZeneca (70%) efficacy rates actually refers to prevention of symptomatic disease and NOT prevention of asymptomatic disease or prevention of Covid-19 infection itself. The efficacy rate in prevention of asymptomatic disease or prevention of Covid-19 infection will certainly be lower than that. So with that being said, hopefully Sinopharm clinical data will be released soon and will confirm this...
------------
If CNBG’s (Sinopharm) vaccine indeed prevented 86% of infections and 100% of symptomatic disease, it would stand out as the BEST EFFICACY data yet. But the few details of the trial’s protocol available indicate it primarily aimed to evaluate the vaccine’s ability to prevent cases of disease, not infection.
Has Sinopharm released any irrefutable data? So far I have not see any. This morning, FDA just released statement that the Pfizer vaccine being rolled out in UK is surprisingly more effective than earlier presumed. CNN caught the newsbreak moments ago. Until Sinopharm relieves all doubts on its vaccine, and any substantial information subsequent, it is going to be eclipsed by other news on Western vaccines. Even the UAE declaration is ineffective against what is popping up for Pfizer. As for Kanger, it is better to just focus on its bamboo business. Vaccine distribution could at best be a profitable side business, if at all it is.
They are involved. Even the endorsement was given in National TV by the MoH. But big investors know something speculators may not, so, the truth is still out there. Unimaginably, there is no communication updates from the company on its role on this, nor how far the purported vaccine it is to distribute is effective and much sought after
kanger no hope to capture vaccine market share lah. wake up lah. promote bamboo lah.if can up already up lah. really dont understand kah. why keep blocking bamboo article with vaccine article. correct?
Kanger International Bhd has roped in Zuellig Pharma Sdn Bhd and K-Star Sport Ltd to collaborate on the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines in Malaysia.
The vaccine and other products are developed by state-owned China National Pharmaceutical Group Corp (Sinopharm).
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Kanger said it has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Zuellig Pharma, the largest vaccine distributor in Malaysia and in Asia, to facilitate the import, warehousing and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines in Malaysia.
Separately, Kanger announced that it has also entered into an MoU with K-Star to appoint the latter as the sales agent of Covid-19 vaccines for private clinics in Malaysia.
Kanger said both MoUs will add value to the group as it is now focused on expanding its business into the healthcare industry, which includes the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines, and is looking for a well-established logistics and distribution provider.
Very simple...Vaccine news is days away, Bamboo news is months away. Why report something which is months away? I would post whatever news is the latest.
5 pharmacy companies with connection with private clinics and hospital will be the winner to capture the market share lah. kanger apa connection pun takda same as other new entry in the sector. how to win the war against the old timers lah. cannot see the picture kah. even china vaccine pun ada 5 in phase 3 lah. china vaccine fight china vaccine in Msia also diluted kanger profit margin lah. correct?
@UlarSawa Too early to say whether vaccine distribution will be profitable or not. We have to wait for approval from China, maybe WHO and NPRA first. We shall see later. Of course bamboo will still make the most profit.....
Yes, NPRA. we have to wait for a lot of things - one closest at hand is for Kangar to have some investor-responsibility. In matters of this nature, at least their investor-relations department should be informing investors and potential ones what is on the line and what is coming in next hour. Sitting down and watching the fun, reading good and bad news on all forums is irresponsible. Definitely not for good corporate governance. And this reflects lots on a company in general
the question is how many kanger can sell the vaccine in msia. must accept kanger cannot beat existing pharmacy company with reputation and track record and distribution channel and connection to push their vaccine where kanger is lacking alot. correct?
@UlarSawa Zuellig Pharma is very established and experienced in vaccine distribution. Nothing to worry about. Zuellig Pharma is the LARGEST vaccine distributor in Malaysia and in Asia. I
