Loved by foreign funds , can consider at such low valuation now :)

Eastspring Investments
The fund expects the tech sector’s “bullish trend” to continue for many more years, said Tung Yin Wai, who helps manage the RM807 million (US$194 million) Eastspring Investments Small Cap Fund.

“We have some good themes like your 5G, your data centers and your storage enterprise, we think it will continue to grow regardless of the economic situation,” she said.

Malaysia’s technology index has jumped 26% in 2019 as companies like Inari Amertron Bhd and ViTrox Corp Bhd reap a windfall from the US-China trade war. Malaysia shipped an additional US$2 billion of tariff-affected goods to the world’s two largest economies since the levies were imposed, according to the World Bank. Semiconductors and electronic circuits made up the bulk of exports to US.

Inari is among the fund’s top holdings, as well as glove maker Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd. and Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

prefer alliance bank to a ambank, tainted by 1mdb. affin is not actively traded. also DBS Bank Singapore is the largest shareholder of alliance bank, epf is the second largest shareholder

Good to have dbs bank Singapore as the largest shareholder, an opportunity to tap into DBS' range of products, and potentially see savings in procurement and IT costs while opening up a bigger platform for Alliance, currently the smallest banking group in Malaysia in terms of assets.

Yup choose this bank , no political baggages, non-GLC and controlled by reputable DBS Bank Singapore.

We maintain our HOLD recommendation on Alliance Bank Malaysia (ABMB) and fair value of RM2.90/share based on a FY20 ROE of 7.7%, pegging the stock to a P/BV of 0.8x. Nevertheless, we tweak our FY21/22 earnings by -0.9%/-7.1% after our recent company visit to account for lower asset yields with the tightened underwriting of new Alliance One Account (AOA) loans.

I just added ABMB.
The credit losses has dampened ABMB's earnings in 1HFY20 (Apr-Sept'19). But, the analyst has guided that the credit loss is expected to normalise in 2HFY20 (Oct'19-Mar'20), and V-shape recovery is expected from FY21 onwards.
If u go through their quarterly reports, the interest income has been consistent, and loan size has expanded. The only reason that dragged down its EPS in past 2 quarters was credit loss. When the provision for credit loss is normalised, the earnings will recover, so as its stock price.
I suppose ABMB has limited downside at current price level. It is selling almost at 10-years low now. Most negatives have priced in. In coming months, i suppose the only way for its stock price to go is up.

slowly but surely. it is envisaged that the banking sector as a whole would experience somewhat between 4-5% earnings growth next year.

alliance loan growth is projected to grow above industry average of 6-7%.

ROE should inch up towards 9-10% and correspondingly P/BV multiple will normalise back to its mean

Posted by Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" > 2019-12-18 14:13 | Report Abuse

next year earnings should bounce back from this year low base

current valuations at trough level

Uob Kay yin expect mid cap to outperform market in 2020. single out defensive stocks and health care as their choice picks. Alliance bank shares was sold down from 4 plus to current level. expectations that their revenue normalised going forward plus attractive yield

Posted by Fabien "The Efficient Capital Allocater" > 2019-12-19 10:58 | Report Abuse

Latest book value RM3.80

At current price, P/BV is 0.7x

If Alliance does ROE 8-9% this year
Implied P/BV of 0.8x, FV = RM3.04
Implied P/BV of 0.9x, FV =RM3.42

Above assumptions are based on BV 3.80, no growth implied

Mid cap banking counters is investor favourites. Undemanding PE ratios plus reasonable yields compared to high price banking perennial counters { which is taxing for average investor Joe}
