Petron’s combined retail sales from the Philippines and Malaysia jumped by 12% on increased mobility.

“The consistent rise in fuel demand and better industry conditions, combined with our efficiency and volume-generating measures contributed to our results in the first quarter. Despite external challenges, we remain confident in our ability to navigate the highs and lows of this industry as we work on achieving a full financial recovery this year,” Mr. Ang said.

The company said that despite the 16% decrease in crude prices for the first quarter, it managed to report an operating income of P8.4 billion, fueled by higher sales volume and strong regional refining margins.

Petron said that the increase in financing cost was partly tempered by the mark-to-market valuation of its commodity hedges.

When earnings are not predictable, it will be impossible to value the stock. Too hard to value company. Move on.

I used to own Shell and was glad to cash out at $12.00 per shares many years ago.

Hard asset company. Refineries require lots of capital. Refining margins can fluctuate a lot too. Gruesome business to be in, I think.

You cannot take the Gross margin per barrel (USD): 9.50 to 36.10 as average 20 means.
You need the volume and then the volume weighted average gross margin per barrel.

Q1 2023 products crack spread are about USD 20/bbl. Petron should make better profit than Q1 2022. As of HRC is still a big question mark?

Question 27: With FY 2022 record breaking double digit refining margin/crack spread (differences between price of Brent crude oil and sales price of petroleum products) of USD (125 – 101) = USD 24/bbl. If HRC still makes losses then what hope can we have on Executive directors and top management of HRC?
