Tony and kama might sell tune protect to raise fund to rescue AA and aax .

TUNE Protect Group Bhd is poised to see the emergence of a South Korean shareholder soon, say sources. It is understood that Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun are likely the ones who will be divesting their stake in the insurance company to the interested South Korean party.

The duo are said to have considered selling their stake in the insurance business for a while now. Back in June 2015, there were rumours that Tune Group Sdn Bhd — which is jointly owned by Fernandes and Kamarudin — was thinking about disposing of its stake in Tune Protect, formerly known as Tune Ins Holdings Bhd.

At the time, Tune Group was quoted as saying that the review of its stake in Tune Ins Holdings was at a preliminary stage. But the talk died down after that.

The three largest shareholders in Tune Protect are Tune Group (16.64%), AirAsia Bhd (13.65%) and CIMB SI II Sdn Bhd (9.4%), a unit of CIMB Holdings Bhd, according to the insurer’s 2016 annual report.

Fernandes and Kamarudin hold an indirect 29.42% stake in Tune Protect.

right issue after vaccine confirmation? more takers?

Moderna's proposed price for a two-dose course sold to governments compares with US$39 for two doses under a deal that Pfizer Inc and German partner BioNTech struck with the U.S. government.

LONDON: Moderna Inc is planning to price its coronavirus vaccine at US$50 to $60 per course, at least $11 more than another vaccine from Pfizer Inc and BioNTech, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.

Moderna's proposed price for a two-dose course sold to governments compares with US$39 for two doses under a deal that Pfizer Inc and German partner BioNTech struck with the U.S. government.

Industry analysts said Pfizer and BioNTech's $2 billion deal to cover 50 million patients, which is contingent on an approvable product, would likely pressure other manufacturers to set similar prices.

Moderna's proposed price would apply to the United States and other high-income countries, according to the report.

A Moderna spokesperson said the company was in discussions with governments about potential supply of the vaccine, called mRNA-1273, but did not provide any details on pricing "given the confidential nature of the discussions and contracts."

The final price for Moderna's COVID vaccine has yet to be determined, a person familiar with the discussions told Reuters.

Malaysia might get access to Covid-19 vaccine from China — Khairy

-A A

KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): Malaysia may get access to the Covid-19 vaccine from China, if the Health Ministry (MOH) finds it safe and effective for use, said Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said this was part of the government's efforts to help develop a vaccine for the virus through scientific and strategic collaborations with countries capable of producing the vaccine.

Explaining further, he said the collaboration team comprising MOSTI, MOH and the Foreign Ministry was formed last April, to explore opportunities between Malaysia and other countries in establishing strategic joint ventures in researching and developing Covid-19 vaccine and medication.

The Covid-19 lockdown measures enforced over the last few months have presented an unprecedented challenge for small businesses in Malaysia.

Khairy said this was to enable Malaysia to gain access to the Covid-19 vaccine when it is produced, as the country currently does not have the facilities to make the vaccine for humans.

"Malaysia is also talking to China about the vaccine development by companies and institutions from the republic. China now has several companies and institutions which are more advanced in the field.

"I am scheduled to hold a video conference tomorrow evening with my counterpart in China on the matter including the possibility of Malaysia to gain access to the vaccine from China, if the MOH finds it is suitable, safe and effective to use," he said during the Dewan Rakyat question-and-answer session, today.

He was responding to a question from Datuk Mohd Nizar Zakaria (BN-Parit) on MOSTI's role in helping with the Covid-19 vaccine development effort at international level, since Malaysia did not have the facility.

Khairy said MOSTI had taken the initiative to be involved in the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the participation as a coalition member has enabled the country to gain access to vaccine development, technology transfer and new expertise, for local researchers.

"CEPI is also committed to fair and open vaccine distribution at reasonable cost for the whole world," he said.

Resolution 5 of the upcoming AGM is the key one in respect of a private placement/RI, I think. 20% would be sufficient for a PP but unlikely to be for a RI. Will there be a separate vote on a RI or will the proposal be announced later for it to be voted on at the same time as the AGM?

"aggregate number of shares issued pursuant to this resolution does not exceed 20% of the total
number of issued shares (excluding treasury shares) of the Company for the time being"

Still, it is not just MAS that needs help. Malaysia-based AirAsia Group Bhd, AirAsia X Bhd and Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd have also sought government assistance although Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has said the government would not provide direct aid to the aviation industry in general.

Sources say AirAsia will receive US$250 million in loans backed by Danajamin Nasional Bhd. This is in addition to its plans to raise capital of up to RM1.4 billion through equity financing. Last week, AirAsia group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was reported as saying that the carrier was looking to raise up to RM2 billion in the next six months.

AirAsia Sold A Record-Breaking 41,000 Seats In One Day Last Week

byHaneesa Begum

June 28, 2020

On Tuesday, low-cost carrier AirAsia sold a record-breaking 41,000 seats in just one day. This marks AirAsia’s highest post-hibernation sale day since it resumed domestic flight services in May.

The official site hit an overall traffic growth of 170%. By the looks of it, the number will only increase going forward. Passengers are eager to fly again – whether to reunite with loved ones, for business purposes, or just to travel.

“We are encouraged by this positive trend, and we foresee this will continue in the coming weeks,” CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said in a statement sent to Simple Flying.

Bringing back domestic travel demand

According to a statement sent to Simple Flying, the most popular destinations booked on June 23rd were for the following routes:

Malaysia: From Kota Kinabalu and Kuching to Kuala Lumpur

Thailand: From Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Hat Yai

Indonesia: From Jakarta to Denpasar and Medan

Philippines: From Manila to Puerto Princesa and Davao

India: From Delhi to Srinagar and from Bengaluru to Hyderabad

In Malaysia, the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) began on June 10th. The RMCO allows for the resumption of domestic travel. As such, all interstate travel has picked up since. AirAsia also introduced an ‘Unlimited Pass’ for those traveling within the state. Additionally, there is a 20% sale on all domestic flights in Malaysia, which undeniably led to the airline’s highest load factor post-hibernation.

AirAsia Group’s load factor hit 50%, with AirAsia Malaysia reaching a whopping 70%. Fernandes added,

“We continue to play our part to revive the domestic tourism industry by partnering directly with local hotels to offer hassle-free, best price guaranteed deals with bigger savings on SNAP, our flight hotel combo booking platform. We remain true to our mantra – enabling everyone to fly through our great value fares.”

KUALA LUMPUR (July 27): The domestic tourism industry has shown encouraging development after tourism activities were allowed to resume when the Recovery Movement Control Order was enforced on June 10.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the average occupancy rate in several city hotels and resorts throughout the country was encouraging especially in locations which offer natural attractions like islands, beaches, highlands or forests.

She said 180,000 flight passenger seats were sold between June 10 and 28 for travel between July and September this year through domestic travel promotions by the AirAsia airline company.

“The weekly trend for accommodation also showed an increase compared to the week before. Although the increase is not drastic, it is an positive indication,” she said during the question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat here today.

She was answering a question from Yamani Hafez Musa (BN-Sipitang) on the response from tourism operators and the public to the government’s domestic tourism campaign post Covid-19.

Nancy said the positive development is the result of initiatives by domestic tourism industry players through special travel packages with attractive promotion prices for hotels, flight tickets, and entrance tickets for tourism products and destinations.

Meanwhile, Nancy said following the cancellation of the Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020) last March, the RM90-million allocation was kept for the next VM campaign.

She added that although VM2020 was cancelled, the ministry was also monitoring to see that countries which were collaborating with Malaysia were those in the Covid-19 green zone category.

She was replying to a supplementary question from Ahmad Hassan (Warisan-Papar) who wanted to know the ministry’s plans for the allocation which had been provided for the campaign.

The eight-year-old startup said its funding round was led by a “global financial institution” and included existing investors, such as early backer East Ventures

SINGAPORE: Traveloka, South-East Asia’s largest online travel app, announced on Tuesday it had raised US$250mil to help bolster its operations amid the coronavirus crisis, and as domestic travel starts to pick up in the region of 650 million people.

The eight-year-old startup said its funding round was led by a “global financial institution” and included existing investors, such as early backer East Ventures.

Traveloka, which claims more than 60 million downloads, has been battered by the virus outbreak, as Southeast Asian countries shut borders and imposed strict lockdowns, throttling a previously booming tourism industry.

The startup cut jobs, with one of its affiliates, Indonesian hotel aggregator Airy Rooms, shutting down.

But as domestic travel restrictions start to ease in the region, the Jakarta-based firm’s chief executive said it “was seeing an encouraging recovery across its key markets” due to a resurgence in travel and activity bookings by local holiday-makers.

“Our business in Vietnam has returned to 100% pre-Covid-19 level and Thailand has surpassed 50% pre-Covid level, ” Traveloka co-founder and CEO Ferry Unardi said in a statement.

He noted that both Indonesia and Malaysia were also seeing “strong week-to-week improvement”.

Thai authorities unveiled in June a US$722mil subsidy to spur domestic travel, while both Vietnam and Singapore have announced extensive local tourism promotion campaigns.

The Indonesian resort of Bali plans to re-open to local tourists this week and to international travellers on Sept 11. According to Unardi, Traveloka will use the new funding to bolster its balance sheets and boost its domestic travel offerings as well as its financial offerings.

A source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that the lead investor on the round was the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), Qatar’s state-owned holding company.

A spokeswoman for Traveloka declined to comment on whether QIA had joined the deal or on Traveloka’s valuation.

QIA did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Earlier backers include US travel giant Expedia, Chinese online retailer JD.Com and Singapore state wealth fund GIC Pte Ltd. — Reuters
