@everyone let me tell you why AA is the worst airline in the world:

1) Always yell at passengers like they are cattle
2) 90% of their flights are delayed
3) Cancel flights last minute without compensation
4) Crappy websites upselling you car rentals, hotels & insurances
5) Charge you convenient fees for using credit cards
6) Burn your flight ticket if you book wrongly even just 5 mins ago
7) Cram their seats to maximize profit
8) Won't refund you cash, only refund you credits
9) Hire very rude customer services and cabin crew
10) Never pick up their customer service hotline
11) Have to walk 30 mins to their gates
12) Crappy and confusing mobile app

You deserve better budget airlines after AA dies!

KUALA LUMPUR (July 25): Kuching has been categorised as a red zone after 41 Covid-19 cases have been detected as at noon today, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said Hospital Sentosa, also in Kuching, has been closed to the public and all its employees have been placed under quarantine at the hospital.

”There are four new cases in the Hospital Sentosa Cluster. (A total of) 677 individuals have been screened and tested, 657 are still waiting for their results and Kuching, Sarawak has become a red zone," he said in a statement on his Facebook today.

He said close contact tracing has been undertaken.

Malaysia recorded 23 new Covid-19 cases today, compared to 21 yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said it will convene a special meeting tomorrow to discuss the latest development on the Covid-19 pandemic in the Kuching District.

In a statement issued in Kuching tonight, he said the district had been experiencing spikes in cases lately, with eight new positive cases reported today.

"We have 39 (new) positive cases (accumulated since last Sunday) and with one more case, we will turn into a red from the yellow zone. When we turn red it reflects the seriousness of the situation. This warrants certain measures to be taken. Tomorrow's meeting will be a special one to determine these measures," he said.

He said whatever measures deliberated and determined would be conveyed to the Health Ministry.

"We want them to act on them so that we can enforce or implement them as soon as possible,” he said, adding that travel bans would be among issues to be discussed in the meeting.

SDMC advisors Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is State Housing and Local Government Minister, and Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi (Sarawak Public Utilities Minister), State Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing and his team of medical experts are expected to attend the meeting.

Govt to tighten Covid-19 SOP
Author: savemalaysia | Publish date: Sun, 26 Jul 2020, 9:26 AM

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has decided to tighten the standard operating procedure (SOP) that was eased during the implementation of the recovery movement control order (MCO).

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) said the decision was made following concerns over the rise in Covid-19 cases in the past week.

“Basically, the decision was agreed upon at the special ministerial meeting on the implementation of the MCO.

“The technical committee will meet to work on the finer details of the SOP and table it at the ministerial meeting on Monday, ” he told a media briefing on the recovery MCO at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, said the SOP on Hari Raya Aidiladha, to be celebrated on July 31, would also be finalised and announced tomorrow.

He said that since several new clusters involving ship crew members had been detected, the SOP with regard to this group would also be looked into.

“The technical committee will discuss and examine the SOP on the Aidiladha celebration as well as on the ship crew members who sign on and sign off either when disembarking or before departure.

“We are worried about infections during Raya Haji. If during Aidilfitri we had set a limit of no more than 20 guests, then for Aidiladha we will also set a limit.

“The police will monitor SOP compliance during the Aidiladha celebration, just like during Aidilfitri. If there is any SOP violation, arrests and action will be carried out on the spot, ” he said.

Asked if the Sarawak government and the National Security Council held any discussions on the need to implement enhanced MCO in the state following an increase in Covid-19 cases there, Ismail Sabri said the state government would discuss the matter at a meeting.

“The Sarawak government may introduce a tighter SOP, ” he said. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Khazanah Nasional Bhd has stressed that a merger between Malaysia Airlines Bhd and low-cost airline AirAsia would be difficult to carry out.

Khazanah managing director (MD) Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan said the different business model and work culture of the two entities would make a merger between the two an unlikely option.

“Malaysia requires both low-cost operators as well as a higher-value operator like Malaysia Airlines to co-exist because you need to address multiple segments of the market.

“So I think for the long-term strategy of Malaysia, [it is] important to provide enough choice, not only for Malaysians to fly, but for international travellers to come to the country [as well],” he said on TV3’s Money Matters programme yesterday.

Khazanah fully owns Malaysia Airlines.

Shahril reportedly said earlier that the sovereign wealth fund was waiting for Malaysia Airlines' management to come up with a recovery plan.

KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): As the domestic travel and tourism industry slowly bounces back, the world’s best low-cost airline AirAsia says it is experiencing green shoots of a promising recovery after being severely hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

AirAsia.com chief executive officer (CEO) Karen Chan said although the journey might be tough, the airline company would ramp up efforts accordingly to attract more customers whilst realigning its business priorities from travel to businesses related to local consumption.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, AirAsia has launched businesses such as Ourshop, an e-commerce marketplace; Ourfarm, an e-commerce platform to help connect farmers directly with businesses; as well as Ourfood, a seamless, fuss-free and affordable solution for customers and restaurateurs.

“Given the new reality we are all facing, AirAsia.com’s top priority is to maintain a growth trajectory amidst a slowdown in the economy.

“Domestic travel will be the key driver of sales until borders reopen and quarantine restrictions are relaxed. This, in turn, is a great opportunity for AirAsia.com given that the airline holds 73 per cent of Malaysia's market share,” she told Bernama.

AirAsia has survived for 18 years in a hyper-competitive industry and became the leader of the low-cost carrier segment by providing the best prices, best ASEAN connectivity and best customer experience, she noted.

Chan said after being grounded for almost two and a half months, with the industry entering a consolidation cycle, AirAsia would continue its core value proposition – providing value so that customers could enjoy travel services and lifestyle products at unbeatable prices.

“As AirAsia.com becomes ASEAN’s fastest growing travel and lifestyle platform, we anticipate that our airline revenues will gradually stabilise as non-airline revenues become our key growth driver and business priority.

“At that point, we will no longer be competing as just an airline carrying travellers across ASEAN -- we will be a super ecosystem of products and services, enabling the ASEAN traveller to go, live it!,” she pointed out.

Higher load factor
Chan said AirAsia.com’s customer research has found that close to 45 per cent of travellers want to travel immediately and flight searches on its website have increased by more than 150 per cent.

She said the company’s domestic travel promotions have been very well-received, selling over 250,000 seats in June, and it would continue to ramp up capacity.

“During end-May to early-June, we were only flying a single-digit percentage…last month we started ramping up to 20-25 per cent, and now in July going forward, we are looking at close to 40-50 per cent.

“With restrictions on activities being lifted, we hope to achieve a load factor of between 70 per cent and 80 per cent by the third quarter,” she said.

AirAsia has also introduced numerous initiatives to help the government stimulate and revitalise the domestic travel industry such as the Unlimited Pass Cuti-Cuti Malaysia, offering guests to redeem unlimited flights within the airline domestic network across 16 destinations nationwide.

“The first of its kind in Asia, our launch in Malaysia and Thailand was a success, and a reflection of the strong latent demand within consumers to travel again.

“We sold over 200,000 passes altogether and have received many requests for the product to be introduced in other markets,” Chan said, adding AirAsia.com is looking forward to further launching in other markets such as Indonesia and the Philippines when flight restrictions have eased.

Another AirAsia innovative product is SNAP, a new flight+hotel combo booking platform that offers customers hassle-free, best-price-guaranteed deals with bigger savings.

Forming new partnerships
Chan said the real determinant for the aviation industry lies in the safe and efficient reopening of borders.

If the positive rebound in domestic travel is any indicator, international travel should follow the same trajectory once travel restrictions and quarantine requirements are lifted.

Given the interconnected nature of the ASEAN economy and that tourism collectively represents 15 per cent of the gross domestic product of the five largest ASEAN countries, AirAsia is looking forward to the reopening of borders, she said.

She also revealed that AirAsia is in the final stages of discussions with key international carriers to connect their European and Middle East Airlines (MEA) networks directly with AirAsia’s deep ASEAN network.

“ASEAN is our home and our turf, and international travel will help unlock the full synergies of our ecosystem.

“These strategic partnerships will complement our existing partnership with Kiwi.com, which provides a virtual interlining and connectivity optimisation engine to offer a one-stop-shop, best-price-guaranteed service for our customers,” she said.

Menteri Kanan (Kluster Keselamatan) Ismail Sabri Yaakob tidak menolak kemungkinan Perintah kawalan pergerakan (PKP) kembali dilaksanakan jika kes positif harian Covid-19 di negara ini mencecah tiga angka.

Beliau berkata, jika kes terus meningkat kerajaan tiada pilihan melainkan menguatkuasakan semula PKP sekali gus mengehadkan pergerakan seperti yang dilakukan pada awal penularan wabak berkenaan.

"Empat hari berturut-turut kes meningkat. Laporan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) mengatakan kes meningkat disebabkan kealpaan kita sendiri. Kita lupa apabila kita melanggar prosedur operasi standard (SOP) akhirnya kes semakin meningkat.

KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): A total of 2,897 individuals, who had returned from overseas as of Friday, are not yet deemed fit to be released from home quarantine.

In a statement, the MoH said the home surveillance order (HSO) on 17,897 travellers had been discontinued as of Friday, with their surveillance order bracelet removed by the District Health Office (PKD).

However, 2,897 individuals had yet to submit their second Covid-19 test results (set to be conducted on the 13th day of the quarantine period). As such, the MoH said it will work closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to take appropriate action against them.

Meanwhile, the MoH advised travellers — who returned to Malaysia before Friday and are still under quarantine — to comply with the prescribed rules under the HSO.

Besides conducting the second Covid-19 test on the 13th day of the quarantine period and submitting the results to PKD, they must avoid contact with their family members and housemates or wear a mask if they find it difficult to maintain at least a one-metre distance from others.

They are also encouraged to download the MySejahtera application for self-assessment of their health, while the surveillance order bracelet must be kept on during the HSO period.

Meanwhile, the MoH reminded the public that the government decided on Friday that all Malaysians returning from overseas — as well as foreigners entering the country — must undergo a compulsory 14-day quarantine at government-designated quarantine stations as there is no more HSO.

Prior to June 10, during the height of the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, returnees had to be quarantined for 14 days at government-designated centres.
