Potential Santan Menu on Mabel Airlines. Just like Air Asia it all started with a humble beginning..

Kavievanan Subramaniam, a Malaysian engineering graduate, turned a RM500 investment into a thriving business selling masala chai from his bicycle.

Now, his venture, "Tea Thambi," earns close to RM100,000 a month, with multiple cafes, stalls, and a central kitchen, serving 2,000 to 3,000 cups of tea daily.

His story is an inspiring example of resilience, passion, and the power of listening to customers.

A Humble Beginning
Kavievanan, known as Kavi, graduated with a mechanical engineering degree but struggled to find a job during the pandemic.

With just RM500 in his pocket, he decided to try something unconventional—selling masala chai, a spiced Indian tea he learned to make from his mother.

Armed with nothing but a few basic supplies and a modified bicycle, he cycled 10 kilometers every day to sell tea around Kuala Lumpur’s city center.

The Road to Success
In the early days, Kavi sold fewer than 100 cups a day.

However, he persevered, taking customer feedback seriously and adjusting his recipe daily to perfect the taste.

After a year of trial and error, he nailed the flavor that quickly became a crowd favorite, offering masala chai that was both delicious and affordable.

The price range, from RM1 to RM4, made it accessible to the masses, and soon, his small business began to grow.

Going Viral and Expanding the Business
Kavi's business gained momentum during the pandemic when his tea started going viral on social media.

His authentic recipe, combined with his dedication and hard work, resonated with people, especially around areas like Brickfields and Masjid India.

As word spread, he expanded from one bicycle stall to five locations across busy districts such as Bukit Bintang and Lebuh Ampang.

*From Bicycle Stall to Central Kitchen*
Today, Tea Thambi is no longer a one-man operation.

Kavi now employs 17 staff members and operates from a central kitchen in Segambut to support the demand.

The business sells 2,000 to 3,000 cups of tea daily and has expanded its offerings to include coffee, snacks, and other traditional beverages like ginger tea.

His RM500 startup now generates close to RM100,000 a month through sales from his two cafes and five stalls.

Tea Thambi also caters to events across Malaysia, further boosting its revenue.

Capital A moving from PN17 to the runway https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2024/09/28/capital-a-moving-from-pn17-to-the-runway.

Capital A’s Journey: CEO Tony Fernandes describes the company’s progress using an aviation metaphor: “*We’re off the aerobridge and taxiing towards the runway*.” The company has faced significant challenges, including pandemic-induced hardships and lack of government support.

Exit from PN17 Status: Capital A is working to exit its financially distressed PN17 status. The plan involves restructuring and disposing of its aviation operations for RM6.8 billion.

Future Plans: Post-restructuring, Capital A will focus on four major business segments: Capital Aviation Services, Logistics, MOVE digital, and CAPI. The company aims to scale up these segments and eventually monetize their valuation through listing exercises.

Shareholder Impact: Shareholders will see changes in ownership stakes and potential dividends from the restructuring. An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) is scheduled for October 14, 2024, for shareholder approval. These steps are part of Capital A’s strategy to strengthen its business model and improve financial stability.

I'm on travelling most of the time elsewhere since I became full time stock investor in my 30s. Glad I managed to read through the circular for both AAX and Cap A for and did an analysis of Cap A financial statement for the past 2 years last Thursday.
I'm optimistic with AAX and Cap A performace post restructuring. Q3 results will be superb
The circular addressed the step taken to solve the shareholder equity concern post merger.
Weak USD will significantly improve the bottom line and shareholder equity of AAX and Cap A

Lower oil price might take longer time to reflect in the profit as airlines use derivative to partially hedge the oil price so that they can determine the air fare for next few months to stay profitable.

Jtiasa -21% since 6 months ago
AAX + 30%
Cap A +30%

His paper loss very painful lo. Dividend earn also not enough to cover the losses🤣🤣

Posted by TradingFUN > 2 months ago | Report Abuse

Everything is turning positive to aviation business. Weak US dollar , low fuel and high demands for air travelling. The best time to invest in aviation business for holding of 6months to 1 year as of now. Cap A and AAX through the restructuring exercise unlock the value which further strengthening the stock price. Great rewards for the shareholders

Posted by TradingFUN > 2 months ago | Report Abuse

I'm not following JTiasa but understood that the company exporting palm oil and timber. Weak US Dollar will erroded their revenue and bottom line.
I will stay away with this stock.

I see that it is a good opportunity to collect now since the upside looks really good. For every 1,000 shares in CapitalA you will get 400 shares of AAX

Since Cap A break RM1 , I will add some gasoline to this heat fire now and look at post-corporate exercise era
(My view is for discussion purpose. Buy and sell share at your own risk, you should done your own analysis.) :

Assumption : Current Cap A outstanding shares are 4.3b units, and 10 to 1 share consolidation happens, new outstanding shares is 430m units. Dividend payout ratio 30%.
Below calculation is assumption.
According to FY2023 quarterly report, cap A total revenue on non-aviation segment was RM1.085b , EBITDA was RM215m. After 24% tax & 10% interest & depreciation, net profit was RM141.9M and EPS (based on 430m share units) was RM0.33 . Current share price of RM1, indicated PE 3.3x only and dividend yield of 9.9% (based on RM0.099 dividend - 30% payout ratio).

According to FY2024 quarterly report, cap A total revenue on non-aviation segment (Jan to June) was RM508m , EBITDA was RM103m. After 24% tax & 10% interest & depreciation, net profit was RM67.9M and EPS (based on 430m share units) was RM0.1576 . Lets assume annual EPS is RM0.25, current share price of RM1, indicated PE 4x only and dividend yield of 7.5% (based on RM0.075 dividend - 30% payout ratio).

Do you think the current price is undervalue? HLIB TP is RM1.68 , based on EPS of RM0.25, the PE is 6.7x .
Several factors to look at: Increase in MRO hangar units, MRO slot fully book until 2025 year end, expansion of MRO aircrafts to Boeing and expansion of MRO service other aircraft operators.

Is it better to convert RCUIDS/Capitala-LA into mother share now (which will give more AAX shares but fewer Capitala shares after the disposal), or do it later immediately AFTER the disposal (which will result in more Capitala shares but fewer AAX shares after the disposal)?

Can anyone who has a good idea on this please share your views? Appreciate it, thanks.

Well Cum Back Air Asia..

More Good News...

Capital A (AirAsia) has plans to rehire the employees who were retrenched during the COVID-19 pandemic. Group CEO Tony Fernandes has expressed a strong commitment to bringing back the 2,000 staff members who were let go. He mentioned that this goal is a priority for him and is confident that as the airline business picks up, they will be able to rehire these employees.

Keep mother share, if you wish to have aviation business (will receive new AAX share later) and non-aviation businesses.

Kept RCUID and let go mother share if you like to keep non-aviation business, to enjoy 8% interest and opportunity to convert to future mother share for capital gain & dividend. I foreseen non-aviation era will have better EPS, less debt and smaller share unit floating in market (assume share consolidation happens).

MRO business is expending and it is not a dream to IPO in future.
