Is YTL Power acquired KLS, not YTL Communication. YTL Power price declined, probably some skeptical about that this acquisition of KLS could bring short/mid term benefits to YTL Power.

But I think it is a good move.

Investing stock nowadays become very difficult. Many uncertainty ahead such as rising interest rate, property bubble threat especially iskandar zone (oversupply and poor take up rate), GST, inflation pressure, slumping in CPO, increase petrol and household essential items, political turmoil, regional dispute like south china sea, conflict could trigger next crisis.

I have think thoroughly as to which stock or sector is still deserve investing, least affected if crisis do happen..... The probable answer to it could be water and power......the most essential life item....water supply company...yes, the only left three company listed in bursa derive nearly all profit from water,

KPS, Puncak and PBA (but PBA share is now at all year high)

and power company, TNB and YTLP, YTL

Recently, I sense some uncertainty and fear of another crisis could be ahead of us.... Last week, i personally make survey in Iskandar zone A property project, namely Danga Bay, Terbau water front and JB city centre (Tanjung Puteri) as well as other peripheral project surrounding like IOI marina cove, green heaven etc.

All of them project huge property development with huge condominium, service apartment, shopping mall, corporate tower, office block, around 30,000 unit is under offer.......all give attractive rebate from 7-15%, partial furnishing, SPA, MOT free with some even offer interest free loan offer by developer to top up shortfall from bank loan to facilitate and seduce buyer etc.....

And yet their take up rate is so poor, with keep take up unit withdraw due to non approval from bank. The root problem is too many unit is offer in the market and most of them is either condo or service apartment, high rise property, at least RM 500 psft with some above RM 1000psft....JB have huge lanbank and yet developer keen to offer just high rise

TNB unions protest direct contract award

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) unions on Friday voiced opposition to the direct award of Project 4A to SIPP Energy Sdn Bhd, with YTL Power International Bhd and TNB participating as consortium members.

A joint statement by four TNB unions, representing 34,900 members, stated that the workers did not agree should TNB accept the approach of conditional offer through direct negotiations as stated in a press statement by Energy Commission (EC) on May 31, 2014.

“All large scale energy generation awards should be made through competitive open tender. TNB must also maintain a hold on all its assets and property under any circumstances,” TNB unions stressed.

“We hold to the position that all TNB’s assets and land should not be sold or used for purposes that would not give any advantage to TNB. Instead, TNB has all the capacity, expertise and facilities to develop its own existing power station on land owned by TNB assets at prices that are competitive and people-friendly,” it said.

The unions also cited the recent remarks by YTL Corp Bhd group managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh dismissing the notion that his companies profited through crony capitalism, saying that this was in line with the unions’ stance on competitive tender.

“Therefore, he should support competitive open tender and decline the conditional offer of a direct negotiation by the EC,” the unions pointed out.

The TNB unions also rejected outright any collaboration with YTL. It said this was based on the bitter experience that TNB had gone through over a period of 20 years prior to this.

The union groups are also seeking further clarification on the exact location of the site of Project 4A.

“Does the area for the Poject 4A refer to land owned by TNB? If so, would the land belonging to TNB be used as happened with land owned by TNB Paka and Pasir Gudang power stations where YTL’s existing plants are located?” they asked.

“We hope that all the process of awarding energy generation projects be maintained through an open tender in order to ensure transparency and to protect the interests of the rakyat.”

Francis Yeoh CAVES IN, apologises for crony comment

Under heavy fire for daring to speak out against crony capitalism in Malaysia, YTL Corporation managing director Francis Yeoh has apologised for his remarks.

Yeoh, the eldest son of Malaysian billionaire Yeoh Tiong Lay, said he regrets saying things that caused the furore.

"I am truly saddened that my words have been misrepresented. Nevertheless, I humbly apologise if offence has been caused as a consequence.

“I very much regret it," Yeoh said in a letter to Utusan Malaysia, which was also carried on the front page report of the New Straits Times today.

"We are genuinely thankful to the Malaysian government and the people of Malaysia for allowing us to continue to thrive in this beloved country of ours."

Utusan carried the apology prominently on its front page today.

At a forum on global business on Tuesday, Yeoh was reported by the Malay Mail Online as saying that it was "time to end crony capitalism in Malaysia, after 20 years".

Although YTL successfully expanded into the energy business under the regime of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Yeoh denied that he was a Mahathir crony.

This drew a hailstorm of responses, with angry critics, mostly Malay businessmen and NGOs, given prominence in the Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia yesterday.

Three major sections of the paper were used, quoting Umno members, Malay rights NGOs, businessmen, investment brokers and the Tenaga Nasional Junior Officers Union tearing away at Yeoh and the company his father founded in 1955.

CIMB Research sees YTL, Gamuda benefiting from KL-Singapore rail link

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Equities Research expects YTL Corp and Gamuda to benefit from the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high speed rail (HSR) project.

It said on Monday the Land Public Transport Commission's (SPAD) updates on the status of the HSR project highlighted that the targeted start of works was end-2015.

"We are positively surprised on the conviction, as the project has yet to complete its feasibility studies. Nevertheless, it is overall encouraging that the government remains committed in this high-impact project over the longer-run.

"We believe YTL Corp could be the main beneficiary if the award takes on a private-public partnership (PPP) and private finance initiative (PFI) (versus a full government financing ) given its balance sheet," it said.

CIMB Research added if the HSR takes off next year, it is a double bonus for the sector as MRT 2 should start too. Gamuda remains our top pick; the biggest beneficiary of the MRT, it added.

The research house added the time frame was "doable" if the RM30bil to RM40bil HSR takes on a PFI/PPP-type structure, as the additional government-type funding of over RM50bil will be focused on the remaining two MRT lines.

"We believe YTL Corp could leverage on a PFI/PPP-scheme given its strong balance sheet. For the tender phase, likely to begin in early 2015 based on SPAD's schedule, we would not discount other potential domestic competitors such as Gamuda as the group had previously said that it was keen to bid on the HSR too," it said.
