LTE capex much lower than expected

CIMB previously estimate it would cost RM1bn for TD-LTE to be offered, based on the assumption that each
base station would need three dedicated LTE transponders and that each
transponder would cost US$75,000. That is no longer the case and it seems
that the frequency of many of the base stations can be configured automatically
with a channel card. The estimated total cost to introduce TD-LTE is now
around US$100m or RM330m. When the configuration is completed for all
6,000 base stations and the ecosystem of 4G devices are fully fungible between
TD-LTE and LTE-FDD (used by the three telco incumbents), YTL Comms
should be able to compete on a level playing field. The expected timeline for
this is over the next two years.

On a level playing field, it will be clear that YTL Comms will be able to
aggressively compete on pricing because the capital cost for its 4G all-data
network will be much lower than the three incumbents. Looking at the current
value of its fixed assets compared to the three incumbents, YTL Comms is
currently at the same level as Digi, but does not have to face an escalation in its
fixed capital base compared to the future capex requirements of the three
incumbents. The key issue going forward for the three incumbents as they roll
out their 4G network will be the baggage of their legacy 3G and voice assets on
their balance sheet.

According to Jacob Yeoh, YTL Comms’ business model will also be different - it
intends to minimise marketing costs and dedicate most of its opex to the
efficiency of its network. YTL Comms therefore intends to sell itself on its
services which makes sense since TD-LTE is more spectrum-efficient than
LTE-FDD.

Invest in YTLP is safer compared to its wb, if privatization indeed materialize via share swap with YTL. WB though trade relative stable now, but its 11% premium will dismiss if share swap at ratio 1:1.

Agree... but since YTLP can get power project from Govt... it lower the possibility of privatising it...

Most of the YTL cash hoard is park under its 58% subsidiary YTLP. Therefore, if YTL wan to bid RM8bn Express Rail Link (ERL) extension to Melaka and the RM30bn high speed rail (HSR) project to Singapore, YTL may need to take over YTLP via share swap in order to fully control YTLP cash and use it as leverage to bid these upcoming multibilion project

According to YTLP announcement last year, SIPP power is 70% own by YTLP. Recent award 4A 1000MW at Pasir Gudang, locate at the same site of its exiting 550MW. Although YTLP IPP is due to expire next year, its Pasir Gudang power plant may grant extension until its new 1000MW ready for operation in 2018, a fast track IPP to meet shortfall power supply for growing demand as well as buffer in the event outrage from problematic Jimah power.

Based on YTLP cumulative 3 quarter result EPS = 11.21sen and NTA 1.47. Assume last quarter YTLP report another 4sen, implying EPS 15sen and NTA 1.51, give rise to YTLP valuation at PE 10x and 1 x NTA, offering at least limited downside risk

YTLP have record to build its first IPP at speed 18 month. Therefore, if 4B is mean to fast track as require, i think only YTLP have such capability to meet target date if not sooner

I now assume YTLP enlarge loss incur in Q3 in broadband division is due to YTLP start up cost in Sabah rather than due to subscriber growth. YTLP have added few hundred more transmission tower in Sabah, bringing total YTLP transmission tower 6000 now.

Based on sum of part analysis done by stock analysis, Puncak on fully diluted basis, Puncak sum of part value should be at range RM 4.50-5.50, depending on valuation peg on its oil and gas (10x-15x)

But, the sum of part exclude Puncak current cash and properties value. I wonder why all the research analyst did not take into account Puncak existing cash balance in their sum of part analysis !!??

Based on latest q result, Puncak have cash RM 500.7m (net of pledge deposit) and short term investment RM50.4m, translating into another cash RM 1.00/share on fully diluted basis.

In addition, analyst also failed take into account Puncak properties and vacant landbank which will be return by KDEB to Puncak at no cost, its worth another RM 250m based on its net book in annual report, translating into another RM 0.50/share on fully diluted basis.

RM400m for LTE growth

LONG-TERM Evolution (LTE) is the focus of telecommunication players now and to capture more subcribers, Celcom Axiata Bhd has allocated a whopping RM400 million of its annual capital expenditure of RM920 million for LTE service expansion.

“This is our focus to strengthen our LTE services and customer base. We are targeting 2,014 active 4G LTE sites by year-end and we are confident of achieving it as we already have 1,093 sites established as of now,” said its chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly...............

Remarks
Celcom spend RM 400m to upgrade its 2000 transmission tower to LTE-FDD....YTLP need only RM 330m to enable all its 6000 transmission tower to be TD-LTE....
