Online trolls like stockraider have no substance in their arguments. All they can do is launch ad hominem attacks on others. Very low class thinking.

To whom it may concern:

Inspired by iCapital.biz's Section D: The CD Timer, this paper portfolio serves as reference to gauge the performance of 2020's stockpicks over the next 1 year.

Interestingly, with the exception of Airasia & KGB, the remaining stocks are not picked by other participants of Stock Challenge 2021 thus far.

Note: I have vested interest in some stocks in this list.

Thank you for your hard work, Tan KW.

Just wanna point out that I made a mistake. My apologies. The rule states that: Each participant CANNOT INVEST > 30% of capital on any single stock.

My portfolio's Bioholdings has exceeded the 30% limit with 40%.

To comply with the rules of 30% max per stock, can I lower the 40% Bioholdings to 30% & increase 20% Airasia to 30%?

Took me a while to understand the scenario.

So, FocusMalaysia(FM) posted an article labelling one of Tradeview's article as "deceitful". FM thinks the media hasn't written negative things selectively to run down the glove industry. FM thinks the media acts as check & balance, report good news when glove companies earn plenty and report bad news when certain glove companies have poor treatment of employees. FM feels Tradeview is misleading people to think the media is biased against glove companies.

Now, Tradeview being labelled "deceitful" is hurt. "Deceitful" is a strong word. It may damage one's credibility & insinuate bad intentions. If Tradeview writes its articles in good faith, without its content bluffing readers, FM may have misinterpreted & inadvertently described Tradeview as "deceitful".

I like this article by Uncle KYY, especially the following quote:

What are you grateful for today? This question will have different answers for different people, and your answers could change every day. You could be grateful for that delicious dinner you had, for having good friends, or for the fact that the sun is shining and you can spend time outside.

If you want to be happy and healthy, be grateful.

Integrity. Intelligent. Industrious. 3iii (iiinvestsmart)$€£¥,
Your portfolio consists of mainly growth companies acquired for the long haul, so I'm rather curious on your decision to invest in icapital berhad. This is the outlier in your collection of companies.

TalkNumberOne,
Obviously I'm not as intelligent as the ones who invested in ARB, bcause they know something I don't. All I can do, is to raise my questions to potential shareholders of ARB.

Again, if the best investment analysts in Malaysia gives a pass on ARB, surely there must be cogent reasons?

If a loss-making timber company can become a profitable IT company in a short span of time, why hasn't any investment bank covered this stock yet?

Interestingly, despite the handsome profits, its cashflows are low, and even negative at times, with plenty of receivables. Why is it so?

The wiser ones would know the answers straightaway.

I've never gambled in Genting. But now, I'm betting on Genting.

The fact that Genting's market cap today is smaller than Genm (11.476bil vs 12.173bil) hints that Genting is undervalued.

Using sum of parts valuation, Genting has almost 50% of Genm (6 bil), 50% of GentingSing (10bil), 55% of Genp (4.8bil), which is approx. 20bil (RM5.16). Historically, Genting has earned 3bil a year against Genm's 1bil.

I hope for mean reversion. Shareholders like me need to be patient and believe things would eventually normalise in the coming years.

ahhuat56,
I understand where you're coming from. But I kinda disagree with your phrase of 'all investors'. Personally, I think ICAP is not meant for all investors. One cannot expect it to rise exponentially in months, as opposed to tech or glove stocks.

"Investing in ICAP is like planting a bamboo tree, which takes years to grow."

IMO, if investors want a fast growing tree with fruits (read: dividends), invest in a papaya tree, where you can enjoy its fruits in the short term, probably like gloves or something.

observatory,
Mr. Tan Teng Boo is synonymous with ICAP. This close end fund cannot even use the name "iCapital" if you seek to boot out Mr. Tan & Capital Dynamics. Think of it as kicking Mr. Warren Buffett out of Berkshire, when Berkshire's stock selection are based on Mr. Warren's value investing ideas!

Next, if you pay out all the cash as dividends, where will you get funds to buy shares for ICAP's portfolio? Borrowings? Rights issues? But I do get your point that ICAP may want to pay a token dividend to shareholders if there is no better use for the cash. My take is that, ICAP may want to follow Berkshire's way of not paying dividends.

cnman53,
I agree with some of your comments, eg tossing out the trash & the unfortunate events of the dual-listing.

But letting City of London (COL) be appointed as our Directors is against the idea of ICAP's inception. ICAP was meant to be a long term investment, based on Capital Dynamics' ecletic value investing. COL's intention is to liquidate the fund for short term return. Since the majority of ICAP's shareholders are holding it for, say 10-20 years, COL is not the preferred choice as Directors.

tatooking32,
Let me ask you a question first, would you have shut Berkshire shut down in 1974 bcause of its 48.7% loss? What about its potential to rise in the years to come?

On Nestle, yes, ICAP did missed out. But buying PETDAG was a wonderful decision, no? Sometimes, we win some, we lose some.

dumbMoney Remember that by implication, existing shares in the portfolio are considered better investments than all the other shares out there by the fund manager, that's why he is still keeping them. So buying more of them at a great discount should be a no-brainer for shareholders.
