now PH has a problem.... it promises to move from an authoritarian model to a more democratic model

that is a huge problem, that causes new problems

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:08 | Report Abuse

Notoriously corruption-plagued authoritarian-driven nation (bossku brand) changes to a supposedly consensual manifesto-based democracy is a huge problem?

A baby step in solution rather

One of the right things China did at that very turning and revolutionary point was removal of toxic religiosity
===========

but we cannot do that in Malaysia..........so every country must its own path.........

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:21 | Report Abuse

Yes, we heard that narrative of 'not going to be an easy task'.........

....................'got good people in it', etc

What a pathetic narrative!

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:24 | Report Abuse

Sheer excuses, lacking in commitment and unprincipled.

Another example is the election of local councils as promised- something that needn't humongous budget- yet cannot be done over the first 2 years

as a developing country, we need a strong government but not a kleptocratic one.........

commitments towards democracy sounds good but not essential for development.

overall, PH is commited to develop democracy in Malaysia....but this brings its own problems.............

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:28 | Report Abuse

For developing countries, democracy is not the best ONLY when majotrity of the citizens are not well educated.

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:28 | Report Abuse

In an illiterate society, authritarian rule by a highly experienced & learned person is the best choice. That is because many fools, unsocial elements, idiots etc puts spanners in the works - which brings down development of a country.

Technically qualified persons only be allowed to rule a country - other wise the pains lasts for quite a long time, without any result.

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:29 | Report Abuse

Autocratic or democracy - the vital point is persons at the top should be technically qualified & have had enough experience. Otherwise - it takes many generations for a country to develop - like for eg. India.

Russia & China has autocratic system & former is developed & latter's growth rate is very fast.

France's democracy still has some ills, but Britain is on very fast track. South Africa is limping & Australia has now shifted gears.

Iran & Malayasia could have gone faster than India, but due to their religious rules, are limping. So is the case with Indonesia.

Turkey has shifted from democratic to Presidential - which means autocratic - dangerous in the long run.

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:32 | Report Abuse

A country which does not want to over-rely on natural resources, but want switching to its human resources, a democratic society would be better.

Most importantly,a democratic form of government forces the government to work for the betterment of the people, while in a non-democratic form, its just a non-binding thing.

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:34 | Report Abuse

Democracy gives you certain rights . It gives you so many opportunities to explore yourself, rooms to grow, to do something for your own and finally contribute significantly to your country.

Democratic countries develop faster than a non-democratic country - a better bet, over all

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:36 | Report Abuse

But proper education is a prerequisite for successful democracy

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:39 | Report Abuse

The vicious cycle can go:

crappy education --> failed democracy --> authoritarian takes precedence --> kleptocracy --> compromised education persists or worsens

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 08:41 | Report Abuse

....................or vice versa

Proper education --> successful democracy --> progressive nation --> progressive education

*warning: driving poverty to extinction is a risk here

In Hong Kong, the protestors have displayed the need for inhabitants to understand their city.

the idea is that the 5% must lead and bring the country along with them

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 12:56 | Report Abuse

When the ethos of the city is threatened, this knowledge can become very critical in shaping a strategy of resistance. When the demonstrations of June and July did not produce the desired results, the protestors occupied Hong Kong International airport, resulting in cancellation of all international flights. The message of the act emphasised that a city is its people.

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 12:57 | Report Abuse

The act was a warning to all stakeholders, including Beijing and the pro-China government that Hong Kong cannot exist as the “global financial hub” without the cooperation of its people, so they must not go unheard.

2019 was a remarkable year for Hong Kong. Alarmed by a bill that proposed to extradite suspects and criminals to mainland China for prosecution, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region experienced its largest, most consistent protests till date. The demonstrations have continued since June 2019, with several events attracting more than two million people.

THEIR RIGHTFUL DEMAND FOR POLITICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE ENGAGEMENT- something sapiens of 21st century should laud.......

The protestors in Hong Kong have refused to be cooped up along the margins of the city where no one will hear them. Instead, march in the main roads, along the head offices of multinational corporations, the legislative complex, shopping malls and public spaces of influence. These are protests of disruption. They disrupt to demand recognition. Through these visible scenes of disruption, they advance their demand for political engagement.

Posted by EngineeringProfit > 2020-02-13 13:02 | Report Abuse

SO UNITED (nothing so divided like here):

The protestors have marched as a heterogenous mass with different contributions to make. Some compose a melody. Some write the words, and others sing. This is how the protest anthem of the city, Glory to Hong Kong came to be. People contribute in their individual positions, but they also stand together in the streets. The physical act of coming together and congregating at demonstrations has helped bridge differences.
