Retain our OVERWEIGHT stance on the sector with top BUYs on RHB Bank (fair value RM7.40/share), CIMB Group (FV RM6.70/share) and Maybank (FV RM10.30/share). For large-cap banks, we continue to like Maybank as our top ESG pick for banks and its attractive FY23F dividend yield of 7.3%.

KUALA LUMPUR: At the conclusion of its monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting, Bank Negara increased the overnight policy rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 2.5%, in line with market expectations.
In a statement, it said it raised the ceiling and floor rate of the corridor of the OPR to 2.75% and 2.25% respectively.

This is the central bank's third consecutive rate hike, bringing the total increase in the OPR to 75bps so far this year.
"At the current OPR level, the stance of monetary policy continues to remain accommodative and supportive of economic growth.

"The MPC is not on any pre-set course and will continue to assess evolving conditions and their implications on the overall outlook to domestic inflation and growth," said Bank Negara…..

OPR raised 0.25,will FD rate increase 0.25 too? Last July, opr increased 0.25, but Maybank FD rate only increased 0.20, loan increased 0.25, is it fair to depositors? HOPEFULLY this time Maybank will increase FD rate 0.25 too.

Yeslah, gonna break RM9 again

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2022-09-09 12:35 | Report Abuse

Since the 18th of last month, ASB has already disposed of over 74 million Maybank shares (almost 2% of its total holdings) but its price keeps going up. This is a good sign.

Effortless buy and accumulate in smaller volumes as long as the dividend yield is 6% and above.

Those buying at current rice, will be paying only about 8.60 (net of dividend 28 sen)

...with dividend at about 58 sen, net dividend yield will be about 6.7% for next year.

KUALA LUMPUR: More monetary tightening can be expected to round out the year in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia as price growth is trending higher, Moody's Analytics said.

Moody's Analytics said today's price rises were largely being driven by factors outside policymakers' control.

The clearest measure of success for central banks would be how successful they were in slowing price rises, it added.

"To date, the APAC (Asia Pacific) region has seen some modest improvement. Inflation has moderated in South Korea, Taiwan, India, the Philippines and Vietnam.

"Meanwhile, price growth is trending higher in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. Given that, more monetary tightening can be expected to round out the year in those economies," it said.

For long term dividend investor, price weakness equal higher dividend yield.

For short term trader, price weakness equal weak technical equal don't buy.

Maybank held up very well today despite catastrophic falls on Wall Street. The last time it traded ex-dividend on 16 March, its share price went up by 12 sen. Hopefully this feat is repeated on 19 Sept.

Big boys are selling millions of shares at higher prices as they know they can subscribe for millions of shares at 8.38 to replace what they sold :)
Is it an unfair advantage ?

Good morning, words have got around that Maybank was charged a hefty rental for moving to 118 or rather to rescue the building owner during these bad times where there are no quality tenants.

The new building is certified green

New building lesser maintenance and repairs needed

Savings in electricity
Savings in maintenance and repairs

And old Menara Maybank is leased back to PNB

I believe no loss, possibly gain to Maybank still
