CNN reports that Israel’s Aviation Security Operations Centre is on “heightened alert” following suspicions that MH370 could have been hijacked.

It reports yesterday that the country is taking extra precautions and have increased monitoring of approaching aircrafts, due to the possible threat of a "rogue passenger jet" being used to crash into the country.

Amid allegations of incompetence and lack of direction, Putrajaya has begun to concede some control of the search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 to other nations.

The Wall Street Journal reported that several nations, such as India, Thailand, Japan and Indonesia had claimed they had ships and aircraft sitting idle, while waiting for instructions from Kuala Lumpur which has been overseeing the international search operation.

Instructions on how to proceed were "not very clear," WSJ quoted a senior South Korean military official in Seoul, which offered a P-3C and a C-130 transport plane to the search fleet, as saying.

WSJ reported that the delay in Putrajaya adopting a more decentralised approach could be an indication that the task may be too big for Malaysia to manage.

Some aviation experts, however, welcomed the latest development, saying Putrajaya is beginning to do what they should have been doing all along.

Singapore Management University Professor Bridget Welsh told WSJ that Malaysia needed to streamline its crisis management.

MAS became a privatisation play again... :)

[b]Maybank IB's Mohshin says the current crisis could be a reason to revisit plans to privatise the national carrier.

"If there is any inclination to privatise MAS, this incident is all the more reason to do so and fix the airline," he says.

Anwar: Effort to link me to MH370 backfired

PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim says attempts by foreign media and pro-Umno bloggers to link him with MH370 pilot had backfired as the press are now engaging him on the crisis.

anwar ibrahimKAJANG: PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim claimed that Umno’s effort to link him with the missing MH370′s pilot Zaharie Ahmad Shah had backfired, as the foreign media are now engaging him on the matter.

“They (Umno) say I’m politicising the matter but I am not. I am just presenting the facts. Today (CNN’s chief international correspondent) Christiane Amanpour wanted to interview me.

“I had to choose either Amanpour or Sungai Sekamat but I chose Sungai Sekamat. She will interview me tomorrow afternoon.

“They (Umno) even tried to link me to the flight but I don’t know how to fly planes,” said Anwar, during a ceramah session in Sungai Sekamat last night.

Recently, several foreign press and pro-Umno bloggers had said that MH370 pilot Zaharie was close to Anwar and even attended the latter’s sodomy hearing at the Court of Appeal on March 7.

A livid Anwar lashed out at the reports and said that it was unfair to link the pilot to a possible hijack just because he is a PKR supporter.

On Zaharie, Anwar admitted that he knew Zaharie through his son-in-law and the pilot is a PKR life member.

He also said that an Indonesian broadcaster, Channel 1, had interviewed him a few days ago and asked whether Zaharie was disappointed with the court’s judgment in sentencing him to five years imprisonment.

“I told them that it wasn’t just Zaharie who is disappointed. Many Malaysians are disappointed too,” said Anwar.

Hurling brickbats at Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, Anwar said that the several foreign media had suggested that the prime minister was unfit to helm the country, due to the government’s poor management of the crisis.

“Jakarta Post said that Malaysia under Najib is mad. They are telling that it is best for me to take over his job because they get answers from me,” claimed Anwar.

Touching on MH370, Anwar questioned on how the authorities could have failed to notice that the plane had turned back when they had the technology to do so.

“There is a radar facility in Gong Kapas, Terengganu which was purchased when I was the Finance Minister. There is also a command and control communication centre in Labuan.

“We have the capability to identify the plane. So why did the army chief take two days before announcing that the flight made a turn around?” asked the Permatang Pauh MP.

The ceramah enters its final week before polling day on March 23. PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Anwar’s wife, would be facing off MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun in the by-election.

If PM won’t speak, I will

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claims various foreign news agencies have interviewed him on the missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner and that others will do the same.

KAJANG, March 19:

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he has to speak about Malaysian Airlines’ missing jetliner on behalf of the prime minister as the latter could not do so.

The opposition leader said that various foreign news agencies had interviewed him on the matter, while others will do the same including famed CNN correspondent Christiane Amanpour.

“They want to speak to me directly as they could not get any explanation from the prime minister who gave a statement but did not take any questions,” he told a crowd during a ceramah at Sungai Kantan here last night.

The Permatang Pauh member of parliament was alluding to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s press conference on Saturday where he read a statement on the search operations for the missing Boeing 777.

Anwar said such actions only revealed the failure of a leader.

The de-facto PKR leader went on to recall the time the Japanese Red Army held hostages at the AIA building — which housed several embassies — in 1975, praising then prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein for being more “firm, strict and smarter” than his son, Najib.

Anwar said that Razak appointed then Home and Information Minister Tun Muhammad Ghazalie Shafie to negotiate the release of the 53 hostages.

“The whole world praised Malaysia on how we handled the issue. But now, they are criticising us,” he said.

On a related matter, the former deputy prime minister said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein had been inconsistent for “not honouring his commitment” after opposition MPs were left out of a special briefing on the missing plane.

The Defence and acting Transport Minister had yesterday stated that the search for the aircraft was above politics a day after only BN MPs were invited for the special briefing.

However, local media today reported Hishammuddin as saying the briefing had been held because BN MPs had asked for it. He added that Pakatan MPs were not invited for for the briefing at KL Sentral because they had not asked for one.

Anwar went on to state that the entire statement and the manner of which the crisis was being handled were full of contradictions.

“The radar is back on them in the issue of governance, free media, independence and transparency,” he said.

Anwar also said that the party was committed to help MH370′s Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, who is a PKR life member but had to be very careful as it could be used by BN, whom he claimed would suggest that PKR was interfering in the matter.

The party, he said, would allow for the investigations to be concluded before dealing with it.

Anwar takes a dig at Najib, says he can better handle international media interest in MH370

The PKR de facto leader said this was because Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, despite being the prime minister, was afraid to face the barrage of questions from the international media.

Malaysia calls for transparent process in UN secretary-general election – Bernama

Malaysia tak malu...cannot put it's own house in order & now want the UN to follow what she says, really idiotic.

Malaysia has called on the member states of the United Nations (UN) to view seriously the need for a transparent and inclusive process in the election and appointment of its secretary-general.

Charge d'Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Malaysian Permanent Mission to the UN Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah, said this was important as the secretary-general represented all the member states of the UN and not just the Security Council.

"In this regard, we call on the implementation of past resolutions on the issue for future selections and appointments of the secretary-general," he said in his statement at the ad-hoc working group on the revitalisation of the General Assembly in New York on March 4.

In his speech, which was faxed to Bernama here today, Raja Reza also reiterated Malaysia's recommendation that the president of the General Assembly (PGA) should be allocated the necessary resources needed for him or her to perform the role.

"The role and activities of the PGA continues to increase over the years. Today, we see a greater number of issues and agenda items being considered by the General Assembly when compared to a few years ago," he added.

Raja Reza said Malaysia's delegation also underscored the importance of conducting the annual elections of the non-permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) and members of the Economic and Social Council earlier than October, he said.

According to him, Malaysia believed that such an arrangement would allow in-coming non-permanent members of the UNSC to make better preparations to helm their responsibility.

He pointed out that by bringing the election date forward, the members concerned would also have ample time to strengthen their missions in New York and allow their officers to familiarise themselves with the wide ranging issues in the council. – Bernama, March 5, 2014.

Could not our PM invite a team from the United Nations to see for themselves how the transparent and inclusive process is put to work in Malaysia> It would be a small Malaysian government contribution to assist the United Nations in the process of electing its secretary=general.

What a shameful and disgusting statement. Does the Malaysian government know what it it means to be transparent? In Malaysia even the "toilet paper" is classified document and they want to preach to the UN to about transparency.
