Khairy is trying to get popular Vote. Gov. with Custom and police cannot stop 10billion illegal Cigs flooding black Market, he (khairy ) is talking about banning smoking for 14years Old...Illegal Cigs are every where ( 10billion Cigs Not 10 cigs ) Some more as if he doesnT know, 90% of Legal Cigarette import License are BN politician family owned including many TanSri and also Supreme Top, Top fellow that Police dare not to touch.
We donT know who is the next Health Minister in 6 months time Or after GE15....One thing for sure Khairy will wipe out by Saddiq Muda youth.....As i said it again, Khairy playing popular VOTE for GE15
anything against Cigarette is highly Unpopular----Even Covid Lockdown, Cigs is exempted. Dont think khairy will be around after GE15 bcos he is aligned to Nobody (PAS might invite him to join )
There is No impact on BAT earnings for next 20years ( if Khairy succeeded ) Main reason 14--18 years Old smoke "something much stronger to get enough Kick "
Extracted from the link Paragraph 3 "This new law will not just regulate e-cigarettes and vape products, but also enforce what Khairy described as a “generation end-game” for smoking in the country in the long run."
Look at the bright side. E-cigarettes & Vape is going to be regulated in Malaysia. Got pro and con from the new proposed legislation.
The key concern here is not about whether his proposals make sense or can work within the next 5 to 10 years. Am never care about that. I still think the acceptance and take up rate/ market position of BAT vape products within the next 2 to 3 years.
Am not sure my concern is valid. Vape products be it legal or illegal and illicit cigs have taken up a big space. It will be very tough for BAT to fight. BAT will take longer time to fight.
Move to Kalimantan and Control "illegal Ciga" into Malaysia...Sound perfectly Good. Khairy cannot control Black Market Ciga...BAT is a Trader even as of Today, can do Biz Black Or White.... I have ask a few BN politicians about Khairy proposal.....All same answer, where got time for Parliament sitting to hear Khairy's proposal....everybody mind is on GE15 after CNY
@ Danielgsk - Depends on the Barrier of Entry set by the Government. Believe high barrier of entry would benefits BAT, otherwise the take-up rate would be low due to competitive market.
@sandcoffee - my observations, before formalising the regulations and laws, be it illegal vapes or good quality vapes and similar products are already widely marketed in the market. take up rate and acceptance will need longer time. yet, the government has another proposal to hit on reducing smokers. The then question is why illicit is still high at close to 60%. is this the right move, is this the now market sentiment to reflect the current share price
@ Danielgsk - Yea, there's about 3k+ Vape Shop operating in Malaysia. Gov got put effort to curb the illicit cigarettes, perhaps still not good enough to wipe the black market.
Tbh, these newly proposed legislation wouldn't affect BAT's profit now. But it's definitely will be affected after year 2027 where future generation are permanently ban for consuming cigarettes. Believe the market is reacting to this risk now.
