Don't Worry, there is many more so called "assets" to sell, to keep paying unrealistically high dividend.

Can sell and leaseback Red-Q (HQ) also.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 9): Global air freight markets showed that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), decreased by 1.1% in November 2019, compared to the same period in 2018, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

In a statement Jan 8, IATA said this marked the thirteenth consecutive month of year-on-year declines in freight volumes.

IATA said despite the decline in demand, November’s performance was the best in eight months, with the slowest year-on-year rate of contraction recorded since March 2019.

It said in part, November’s outcome reflects the growing importance of large e-commerce events such as Singles Day in Asia and Black Friday.

IATA said while international e-commerce continues to grow, overall air cargo demand continues to face headwinds from the effects of the trade war between the US and China, the deterioration in world trade, and a broad-based slowing in global economic growth.

IATA director general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac said demand for air cargo in November was down 1.1% compared to the previous year.

“That’s better than the 3.5% decline posted in October. But it is a big disappointment considering that the fourth quarter is usually air cargo’s peak season.

“Looking forward, signs of a thawing in US-China trade tensions are good news. But trading conditions at present remain very challenging,” he said.

Meanwhile, IATA said freight capacity, measured in available freight tonne kilometers (AFTKs), rose by 2.9% year-on-year in November 2019.

It said capacity growth has now outstripped demand growth for 19 consecutive months.

Bangkok, January 10, 2020 - AAV approved the transaction to sell 10 aircraft and lease back 9 aircraft to manage the fleet. The risk of aircraft values due to changes in technology and capital.

Asia Aviation Public Company Limited would like to inform that the company has considered and approved the aircraft sales and leaseback transaction between the company Thai Air Asia Limited ("TAA") with Avolon Aerospace Leasing Limited or a person designated by Avolon Aerospace Leasing Limited ("Avolon").

Which consists of selling 10 aircraft to Avolon with a total value of US $ 426.7 million. Valued at approximately 12,861.46 million baht and the lease of 9 aircraft sold from Avolon is approximately US $ 285.06 million. Or worth approximately 8,612.23 million baht back to use in the business operations.

TAA has already entered into some agreements relating to property sales and rental transactions with Avolon (amount 5 vessels) and expects TAA to complete the agreements under asset sales and lease transactions within the first quarter of 2020. And both transactions are expected to be completed by the 1st quarter of 2020

For the transaction of selling aircraft and returning aircraft rental Is the implementation of TAA's fleet management strategy to manage the potential risk of future aircraft value due to changes in technology that will make the new aircraft more efficient. While the aircraft has a high value and demand.

In addition, the said property management Will help the capital structure and cash flow of the company and TAA better able to support the
Procuring new aircraft, Airbus A321 Neo, with higher efficiency Both in terms of fuel economy Longer flight distance More passenger support And reduce noise pollution, which will be beneficial to the aviation business in the long run.

Looks like even their sister company may be having cash flow issues......

resulting in them "refinancing" the aircraft...

If we follow management guidance on outlook and strategy, this is merely a follow-through of AA's transformation from asset heavy into a capital light business model; paving way for growth of new lifestyle businesses. These new ventures is expected to bring in more than half AA's total revenue in 5 years time.

My cheap opinion, Sale And Leaseback is a form of non-transparent financing/loan.... not exactly going asset light.... they need the planes, but at the same time are running short of cash.... the sale and leaseback is to buy time by temporarily increasing their cash flow from the proceeds of which they will need to pay back to the lessor slowly. How they utilize this proceeds will determine their survival. But of course, by paying the special dividends, they already washed their hands clean. Ikan bilis who chase the stock at rm 3 are the ones who suffers.

The other businesses will not work without the airline operations

Posted by enigmatic ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ > 2020-01-11 21:15 | Report Abuse

I'm also puzzled on why they sold off the planes, gave out huge dividends, yet need to lease back some planes.

On cashflow, AA still has good cashflow from operations. But if no divs are announced nxt month, expect further smackdown.

Only Tony himself knows whats really going on inside.
That may be the reason he is pushing for BigPay , Santan etc etc ...

One thing for sure, its about his best interest... and not ikan bilis..

TF, DM, are majority shareholders. Therefore it is their interest to maximizing shareholder (own) interest. My interest as shareholder therefore is always aligned to theirs (eventho I'm small).

I always buy companies that are:

- depressed sentiment amongst speculators
- in my view, wrongly/aggresively sold off
- business cashflows/revenues growing/steady/strong balance sheet
- several tailwinds (visit Msia2020, china/india middleclass, dominant market share, ecommerce growth, digitalization)
- owners/founders remain as majority shareholders

You definitely wouldn't touch AA as it goes against what you said above
