Shorts will continue as buyers are week . Important is how Q1 results will be. I am still bullish to top up as TNB results tend to be easier to predict as it is regulated.
The under recovery of 3.21B in previous qtr should be reduce with Feb 022 ICBT approval. with 1.2% of demand growth roughly equals to 2,5 B in revenue. With GDP growth at ~6% ,2022 expect Qtrly revenue to be in region of 17-18B Rev. Something unseen before. PBT will be good if operating expenses can be control. But some insider dares to say TNB will post a lost :) next qtr. Easily 1.2 -1.4 Billion PBT. Do comment with data please

I don't claim to have insider information like some do :) but we have to learn to challenge the numbers and see it as it is. Only the big boys can influence Tenaga share turn around .

Don’t forget Tenaga is answerable to EPF , PNB , Kwap etc all are govt link. And all these institutions are answerable to the rakyat. So somehow the govt will make sure tenaga is profitable and pay good dividend. And don’t forget with the e& e boom and commodity bull malaysia is doing very well. We are top exporter of e&e (electronic/chips) crude oil/gas, palm oil etc. If need be the Govt can subsidise Tenaga.
How low can it go? Limited downside. ESG ?? When there is money to be made esg is set aside.

@ccpool on trusting IB's reports 100%, this one I learned from my remisier, he takes analysts report with a pinch of salt - even from his own firm. guess this as they say comes from experience.

I only trust myself and my TA. Sometimes it's quite disgusting when all these so called " reports/target price" hyping the retails to buy at resistance and sell at support. You will then get people screaming MANIPULATION! and the sifu2 will come out with news to justify share prices. Hahaha exactly as predicted

Just an update on the shorts and covering positions for those that might be interested (probably only one or two...lol)

Shorts this week totalled 800. Four days of 0, one day of 800. Obviously an insignificant number.
Shorts covered for three days this week = 1,107,400. This doesn't include Thursday or Friday as those figures are not available until Monday and Tuesday next week.

For the previous 20 trading days, excluding Thursday and Friday this week, total shorts covered = 11,032,208.

For those with a "glass half full" thought process, they may say there is a trend happening here.
For others, they may say it's going to Rm4.50 :)

I'll stick with the glass half full theory for now, despite the current global headwinds.

Treetopview. It makes sense to close shorts at current support and any new shorts opening here is just asking for trouble. No doubt the probability of going up is higher than going down as of now because we have yet to break support level but until the chart shows any sign of strength. I will be prepared for lower. As the saying goes, market structure is king, I don't mind missing out the first few percent as i will get in with a higher probability trade. No emotions, just trade the charts.

ccpool, just for the record, the majority (volume) of short covering in the last 20 to 25 trading days has mainly been done between 9.10 and 9.20+. Any shorts that have been added in the last 3 weeks of trading appear to get covered fairly swiftly, so perhaps indicating a short term trade.

As for your comment about chart analysis, this has been part of my investment strategy for a very long period of time. I can't recall the last purchase I made without looking at the chart indicators prior to hitting the buy button. Obviously I don't merely rely on short/covering data, however it sometimes offers up some indicators on what might be going on in the background.

Wishing you well with your trading and investing.

You are right 9.25 is the first significant support level to be hit and most trader would have at least TP or close most of their short positions. Since its a wide range, it can be profitable by just trading the range itself. Scalps are definitely possible.

Agree 100% with you on using multiple tools to identify confluence, key level and find high probability trades. Having volume data on shorts/longs opening and closing is crucial to know if the move is strong or just a fakeout. Definitely open to add new tools into my trading arsenal :-)

Thank you and same to you.

If there's no shorts, then most likely would be foreign selling in the market. Perhaps that would explain why our exchange rate also drop.

Deekay, the MYR exchange rate has dropped because of the strength of the US$ against other currencies, this is due to the recent inflation spike.
Open up the link I'll add at the end of this post and take a look at the 1, 3 and 6 month chart of the US Dollar Index to see clearly what is going on.

Oh thanks, TTV. What i mean is that foreign funds has sold the holdings in Malaysian market and repatriate their funds to USD which is inline with the strengthening of the US$.

Deekay, the March figures indicate that it's the local institutions that are the net sellers rather than the foreign institutions. They have to pay for those EPF withdrawals somehow :)

"Shorts covered for three days this week = 1,107,400. This doesn't include Thursday or Friday as those figures are not available until Monday and Tuesday next week."

Just to conclude last week's short covering, you can add 67,300 to the previous Monday to Wednesday figures.
So a total of 1,174,700 covered for the week.
Starting a new week, there were no new Tenaga shorts yesterday (Monday).

It's not a conclusive indicator, however a started to get a slight tingle in my nether regions when I took a glance at the Tenaga chart this morning. A break above 8.97 might help with decision making but a buy around 8.90 to 8.93 might be worth considering.
Current low volume is a bit off putting but worth keeping an eye on for any changes.

Perhaps it might be taken for a walk leading to the release of the quarterly late next month.

Yup definitely irrelevant at the current level. 8.82-8.885 is where i will probably long in a low volume environment. If we fail to reclaim 8.97-9.00, i will expect it to retest the lows again. Will patiently wait for the next swing setup.
